My first level, in the new Editor released recently. I've made a few changes since the recording.
Not bad for a first level! Some things (like the mushroom platform palette in the cave) need changing, and the header settings too, but other than that, I don't see anything else wrong with it. It's nice to see more people attempting to hack YI.


Having much fun playing around with Golden Egg. Thinking of making a one-world hack of really challenging levels. It'll be a SMW2+2 Expansion Pack.
Good! I'd like to see challenging levels of you, since I found SMW2+2 and SMW2+ too easy. SMW2+ was harder than SMW2+2 and SMW2+2 was easier than the original game IMO (which doesn't make them bad levels or hacks, I loved them, but as said, I found them too easy). Anyways, great idea to make more levels!

Yes, and it'll probably be a long way until it's finished.
My first YI level.

I just thought this screenshot was adorable, since they're both blowing bubbles.
I just need to place a few more enemies and the level will be finished. I'm not happy with the FG palette, but it's the only one(besides yellow grass which I didn't think would fit) that doesn't eff up the layer 3 butterfly palette. Once Romi makes a palette editor I'll make it better.
So far, looks very similar to the original 1-1, but that's not a problem, as a lot of people are just playing around with GE right now. I love the FG palette, I don't recall seeing it used for that tileset before.

Don't worry, I deleted 1-1 before making a new one XD Yeah, I was worried people would think of the original 1-1 when seeing the unchanged layer 3, and the round hills, but I love the dusk silhouette(how the hell did I spell that right on my first try XD) effect of the hills against the sunset HDMA, since I see that effect on hills IRL often at dusk. I did change the FG from the flower FG, though, for some variety. Kept the enemies cuz I was too lazy to change them, but 1-2 will probably have some un-1-2-esque enemies(Melon Bugs, I absolutely love those guys). Anyways, it's finished and I have a video:

The annotations have some important facts, I suggest you read them.
Yoshi's Island is pretty much my all time favorite game, so I'm pretty happy I can make my own levels easily now. #w{=)}

Anyway, this is my second level that I've made, but I'm not too sure what constitutes a "good" Yoshi's Island level--how is the item distribution? The level decoration? (I think I may have gone a bit overboard with the cross-sections...) The level design? What do you guys think?

Also, yes, I play really badly until about a minute in...

Nonsense, you can never really go overboard with crossections, I think it looks really nice for your second level. Although, don't you think its kinda challenging for a 1-2? Unless that is what you were intending for.

Also at 2:12 there's a tile error with the crossection platform, so you should fix that. Otherwise, it looks pretty good, decorations have been placed well.

@Jacob, looks pretty good. What can I say since it's only one screenshot. Also, I'm one of those few who doesn't care about the difficulty, its the gameplay that matters to me.

Does this effect look OK? I was trying to add those clouds behind the hills in the BG, but forgot to alter the BG3 effect from its original setting, and well, this is the result. I kind of like it, but I thought I would get some other opinions on it.
Yeah, I like it. Feels like low clouds, but not fog or anything.
I agree with Spud Alpha, I thought it looked weird first, but when I looked more closely I saw that the clouds were semi-transparent.

Also, something I just noticed: It's easy enough to obtain the coins/flower using an egg... was that intended?

Yeah, it's the flashing egg block.

Also, you shouldn't be able to get those coins and flower with an egg. The bridges are positioned so you can't throw an egg into that spot.
To me it seems like if you hover down to that line-guided rolling platform, you have a clear shot directly to the right...
Yep, this way you don't need to use the blue rollable thing. You just need to stand on it and throw the egg. I, however, wouldn't know how to make, that the player cannot obtain these items by throwing an egg.
