I went on a couple of trips to central and eastern Oregon last May, once to the John Day Fossil Beds and another to the Blue Mountains. Some of the country in the fossil beds is really breathtaking, especially Blue Basin and the Painted Hills. The paleontology center is really interesting, too. They have hundreds of Cenozoic fossils (meaning creatures that lived after the dinosaurs) and impressive murals depicting the extinct life. You can also watch people clean and prepare fossils.
