So yeah, finally an ASM request thread! However this is gonna be a bit different from the other ones. The idea here is not to make anything particular, but something that can give new advances for the ASM hacking and be useful for lot of people.

Here you can request whatever you want. Sprite, shooters, generators, bosses, blocks, patches, codes, etc. However, you can't make private or too specific request. The objective of this thread is instead to be a "Wish list", list of interesting request that can be useful for everyone. So if you're gonna ask about a private boss or something that might only you hack will take advantage from using it, then I advice you contacting your favorite ASM friend instead.

Request rules
:
  1. Don't request something impossible. -- All kind of requests that are not possible to do at all due of SNES or SMW limitations. That includes i.e. mp3 music patch, 3D bosses, whatever that SNES may not be able to handle at all. Use your good sense.
  2. Don't request something too specific. -- All fulfilled requests will be available for everyone and should be adaptable enough to work with any hack.
  3. Don't make private requests -- The purpose of the requests thread is to allow programmers take inspiration to do something that the community is wanting, not something that only a single user will benefit from.
  4. Additional files are welcome! -- If you have graphics, same ASM, video or anything else that may make it easier to fulfill the request, go ahead and include in your request.
  5. Only a single request per time! -- If you have multiple request ideas, then please elaborate each one better and post them slowly. This is important for the healthy of the system.
  6. No NSFW requests -- Do not request anything that might be questionable. After all, SMW hacks have a public target for everyone and we don't wanna see our kids experiencing something inappropriate.
  7. Keep requests here -- Do not privately send requests to anyone, not even if they granted a previous request. They granted that request because they want to, and if their reward is more work, they'll stop fulfiling anything.
  8. Put clear information -- Nobody will understand your request if you don't make it clear what you want. I recommend using the following format when doing a request:
    • Request name: Insert the name of your request.
    • Type: Block/Patch/Sprite/Boss/etc.
    • Short description: Write on a few words what you want in your request.
    • Resources: Put here resources that can help whoever will fulfill the request later. Can be GFX, music, other ASM material, etc.
    • Links: Put videos, images, etc., that can make your request clearer
    • Long description: Put details about your request.

    You don't need to follow it strictly but doing that it will make easier to everyone understand about it.
Support rules:
  1. In case you support a request, quote it! -- Requests with more community support will have a higher chance of getting it fulfilled. So in case you support a request, be sure to quote and reply this thread with your reasons.
  2. You're also welcome to suggest ideas for a specific request. -- In case you see a request and you like it, you can reply it giving more details that can be more useful for everyone. With that, you will be making the request more solid and detailed.
  3. In case of inappropriate request, please report to the Staff. -- If you see an invalid request, instead of replying please simply PM one of the Staff Members (ASM ones preferentially). With that you will avoid possible conflicts and will make the thread cleaner for everyone.
Fulfill Rules:
  1. Submit it -- Unless work in progress, all fulfilled requests must be submitted to the ASM related sections (Blocks, Sprites, Patches, UberASM/ASM library), so everyone can use it.
  2. Give quality -- You don't need to be perfect, but ensure your submission has the minimal quality required according the ASM submission guidelines.
  3. Make it flexible -- Be sure to make your request flexible enough to be edited by anyone. Avoid using hardcoded methods that can be harder to customize it later. After all, not everyone have the proper ASM knowledge to manually edit your submission later.
  4. Fulfill and get awarded -- Fulfilling a request will not simply make the community happier, but you can potentially gain various awards, from badges to various benefits (to be announced).


That's all I guess. These rules may get revised later in case something needs to be clarified later. Be sure to always check the first post for updates before replying to this thread.

Also later I'm gonna make a table below this containing all requests made so far, making easier to everyone see.

I think Sonniku programed Hawkmouth, Tryclyde, and the crab.

From my standpoint, it'll help cleaning the mini-ASM "requests" threads, assuming you're allowed to ask for something as minor as the modification of a graphics routine.

Personally I don't see why people don't just learn ASM themselves but hey what do I know.
Wall-guided grinders, in the same fashion fuzzies/lil sparkies move around tiles.

This is a request.
It does not cost to give a try anyway. People were been wanting that thread for many time since the requests section went down but the staff always vetoed thinking that it won't work at all because nobody would fulfill the requests. The only way to know is trying and thinking on solutions. And here we go with this thread.

MolSno you have a point, but for example I would like to learn music someday, but I can't get into porting after all. It's much better to I improve my ASM skills instead. The same can apply with other people. The only thing we can do is either give them a easier opportunity to work with ASM or allow a system where they can ask other ASM to contribute with something.

Request name: Improved SMB3 Giant ? Blocks and Brick

Type: Blocks

Description: A set of improved blocks based off Giant World from SMB3, But also shatters/spawns an item when hit with a shell or when mario hits it from below.

Should come with:
-A Giant ? Block that spawns a Super Mushroom or Fire Flower
-A Giant ? Block that spawns a 1-Up Mushroom
-A Giant Brick that Shatters

I agree. Maybe it'll be more succesful once the badges and "various benefits" are announced.

Long description: I would like to request a patch that requires a certain amount of Yoshi Coins to enter specific Levels / Warp Pipes / Star Warps.

In Super Mario 3D World, you needed like 80-220 Green Stars to unlock a world and I would like this concept to be similar with Super Mario World with the Yoshi Coins or even with LX5's Special Coins.

This is probably something that will take hardcore ASM to do, but just requested it in case.

Well, every fan game engine seems to have these guys by now, so I think it's time someone made a few for Super Mario World too.

Short description: The gun shooting/grenade throwing soldiers from Metal Slug

Long description: Well, these guys technically come in about a hundred variants, but I think most people would probably use the two mentioned above.

The gun wielding version stands still, then shoots a couple of bullets towards the player every few frames or so. These may spread in a scattershot pattern, though that seems to be depend on what game they're in.

The grenade throwing version throws grenades which act mostly identical to Bob-ombs or Mouser's bombs, albeit with a shorter timer.

Both versions are defeatable by any means of attack, like one jump to the head, a couple of fireballs, cape spins, throw items, explosions, falling off cliffs, etc.

Ideally the two forms mentioned would work as one sprite which could be switched between via the extra bit.

So yeah, sounds crazy, but if anonimzwx can make one variant, there's no reason any of the others couldn't be done in SMW either.

I will make like 5 variants of soldiers for my hack, but i am not sure if i will release them, maybe i can release 2 or 3 variants. Also they are hard to insert because use like 64kb of graphics.
