aka make #smwc great again
SMWC is looking for some new active half-op moderators for our IRC channel #smwc. Your job will be to keep peace in the channel and make sure everyone follows the rules. We are looking for a total 4 moderators; 2 for one half of the day and 2 for the other half. If you are interested in this position, please post below and answer the following questions:

IRC Name:
Days & Times you are Active (UTC time zone):
Why do you think you will be a good mod?:
What will you do to help improve the quality of #smwc?:

Please note that to even be considered;
-All the information above must be completed.
-You must be an active member.
-You must not have had any incidents in the past 6 months
-You must also abide by the rules of #smwc; just because you have power does not mean you are above everyone else.

Signups will close 1 week from today (9-19-16). We will then review the applicants and let you know if you have been picked.
Layout by LDA during C3.
IRC name: Koopster (PC), Claus (mobile)

Activity times (in UTC):
PC: 11PM-1AM from Monday to Saturday, 6PM-1AM on Sundays
Mobile: 8-10PM from Tuesday to Saturday (not guaranteed)

Why I think I would be a good mod: I think I can deal with people well enough (it's also something I like to do). Also sorta have some experience. I've been moderating #smwbr and #hyperpower as an admin for over 3 years straight (even if they are relatively calm places).

What I will do to help improve #smwc: I'd try my best to deal with matters in a faster and more efficient manner. When stuff like NeonBlue's incident happen I think it takes staff too long and too much effort to deal with them. And also discuss on revising the rules a bit since I hear a lot of people are unsatisfied with what warrants punishments in there and what doesn't.
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
IRC Name: Impetus (and BotServ =p)
Days & Times you are Active (UTC time zone): 6pm to 12-2am (on workdays) 9am to 2am (on non-workdays), these are conservative measurements so I'm potentially active later than specified.
Why do you think you will be a good mod?: Asides from already being proven as op on several channels and owner of #vldc? And uh, people saying I'd be a good mod a lot of the time? Passionately wanting to improve the site helps but in terms of actual qualifications, responding to things quickly, strong logic, strong analytical skills for whatever situation is going on and good decision making.
What will you do to help improve the quality of #smwc?: I'm always able to respond quickly and I have a keen eye to enforce the channel rules. Additionally I'm willing to deal with people personally and put my time into helping them instead of just banning people or handing out warnings and moving on.
IRC Name:
leod(d(d))

Days & Times you are Active (UTC time zone):
10AM - Midnight
Often up to a few hours later but that's the minimum.
I mean you probably know how much I'm on anyway after all these years.

Why do you think you will be a good mod?:
I'm very social and unreasonably empathetic, so I'm sure that if anyone has any sort of problem with the channel, be that with how it's run or with specific users, I'd do a pretty good job settling it.
I can stand my ground very well and wouldn't let people sweettalk their way out of shit or pin the blame on other people though.

A lot of people know me, what with having been around and active for a looot of years, so I think more people would feel comfortable with coming to me asking for help than most other people.
Similarly, I know pretty much everyone on this site to some degree, meaning I could make some slightly more sensible decisions than most.

I'd also prefer to keep handling problem users flexible, meaning I'd rather talk to users that show problematic behaviour (eg. being annoying to everyone else, being unnecessarily negative at all times) and help them improve rather than just throwing ban after ban; at least if they make an attempt to improve.
On the other hand, instead of requiring warnings and timebans before a permanent ban for extremely bad cases, they'd just get thrown out immediately. It's often extremely clear when people are hopeless cases, but they seem to be given 8 more timebans instead of closing the door early for some reason.

Which leads me to my next point!
Namely, I'm pretty confident in my ability to judge characters, very often figuring out which users will only lead to trouble long before the inevitable shitstorm they cause.
In fact I'm pretty sure I was able to do that for every single user that has been banned in the past 2 years (minus spambots and spammers that appear out of nowhere obviously).

Probably don't have to mention this, but if you're looking for someone to keep the channel free of hate speech and reasonably safe for people that aren't pubescent boys, I'm your #1 guy.

Additionally Alcaro loves and recommends you choose me!

What will you do to help improve the quality of #smwc?:
Assuming the channel would actually return to holding some degree of quality (which is the goal here, so it better!), I would actually bother reading the chat consistently, something not a single staff member managed to do when I left the channel a year ago.

On top of that, I'd like to encourage people to highlight or query me directly if they need a mod instead of having to keep their problems to themselves, just because having someone specific to go to is always better than "oh just query ~someone~ (and pray that they will respond)". If I'm online, I will respond asap, be that on PC or mobile.

Also, from what I'm told the channel is kind of dead recently. Well, it just so happens that I'm great at talking a whole lot! Probably my biggest strength actually, not to brag too much.
Not that great at sparking a conversation but a killer at making at least 2 clever jokes for every 30 minutes one stays alive and attempting 10 more that fall flat.

Basically, I'd aim to be the bootleg Blumiere/SNN of today. Stuff went a lot smoother when they were there and actually cared.

If I don't make the cut at least pick Impetus.

I don't know if we're supposed to vouch for people, but this is something that's really important to me, and frankly, leod's the person I trust the most to make it better. Just lingering around the channel the past few weeks, there's a lot of instances of people passively throwing out racist and homophobic slurs or statements without thinking. I sincerely do not believe these people have any actual malicious intent, but it almost seems like a habit at this point, and idk, it would be nice to have the main channel for the website be more.. respectful I guess.

I personally have no interest in holding any sort of power in the channel, but I do believe a moderator that's willing to bring a better sense of common sense tolerance (idk what word I'm looking for, acceptance maybe?) to the channel would bring it a long way.
ask me if i give a f*ck...
Just dropping in to say I think both leod and Koopster would make wonderful 1/2 ops due to the objective point of view, level-headedness and general intelligence I've seen from them in both IRC and the forums.
My layout has removed you.

Hey, I go by Hobz on irc. If I need a backup I'll tack on z's. I work part time, so the days and times im available can very, but on days off I'm around from 1pm-2am, UTC. Even on days I work, I'll usually be on around 7pm - 1am, which is alright. I also work a lot of half days, so those'll be 1pm-2am as well. If I have a day off, than I can be around until 4am. All UTC of course.

I think I could be a good mod because I'm friendly and pretty capable of participating in any discussion (ironic or not), but I also try to work towards making the channel a friendly, open space. General negativity, slurs and especially attacks on other users are things i personally am not a fan of and try to deter, as I really feel that the main channel for the site should be treated as an extension of the community of the site itself. I think that I have a positive energy that helps people feel more comfortable and open to discussion, while not being afraid of confronting users that try to instill a more negative atmosphere in the channel. I hope that makes sense.

I do feel a lot more comfortable with the position than when I wrote my earlier post saying I had no interest, but keep in mind that my aspirations for the channel can be worked towards whether I'm a HOP or nop. I'm willing to do my best to help assist in the channel moderation if you need it, but I also dont want to take the opportunity away from the other 3 candidates above me (whom are obviously more qualified than I am). With any of us on board, I'd trust the channel's in safe hands. :)

IRC Name:
TRS/Noivern (usually logged on at two different computers at the same time)

Days & Times you are Active (UTC time zone):
2PM-4AM on non-workdays (occasionally until 6-7 AM)
2AM-4AM on workdays

Why do you think you will be a good mod?:
To be honest, I have no real experience with moderating. However, what I bring to the table is bluntness and levelheadedness. I ask a lot of questions--even if they don't seem relevant--and I can get to the heart of an issue. I don't play favorites, and I try to hold everyone to the same standard. I'm familiar with the userbase, friendly to newcomers, and to my knowledge have had no major incidents on this site.

What will you do to help improve the quality of #smwc?:
I would be available to help with issues either publicly in the channel or privately through query, with an emphasis on efficiency; fixing the issue at hand by addressing the issue first and not the offender is key, with kicks and/or bans only used as a last resort. In addition, I would participate in discussion more often in an attempt to get #smwc closer to its former level of quality and activity.

Application process is closed. Thank you to all who applied. We will be reviewing the applications and will get back to those who were selected,
