It's time for another Staff Spotlight! This time we've got Eevee, who was recently promoted to hack moderator. Apologies for being a day late here, but let's get on with the interview!
K3fka: Hello, Eevee. How are you today?
Eevee: Very nice, also a bit tired lol
K3fka: Ah, I see.
K3fka: Well, let's get right into it, shall we?
Eevee: Sure
K3fka: You were promoted as a hack moderator pretty recently. How do you like it so far?
Eevee: Well, I'm still enjoying it as of now. Played a whole bunch of hacks already, good and bad, but it's nice to get an idea of how different people design their levels
Eevee: it can even give me a bit of inspiration myself sometimes
K3fka: I wouldn't have the time or patience to play through all of the stuff I see in those removal logs. How you guys manage it is a mystery to me.
Eevee: yeah, I sometimes wonder that too lol
K3fka: Let's talk about your hacks now.
Eevee: sure
K3fka: You have a kind of series going on. How did that get started?
Eevee: the original Sicari originally started out as a testing ROM for me, where I'd just play around with GFX and the player GFX, but I ended up developing it into an actual hack
Eevee: iirc submitting a 1 world demo was the first thing I did after signing up
K3fka: Ah, so does that mean you were working on the hack before you signed up?
Eevee: yep
Eevee: a few months prior in 2012
Eevee: didn't even know how to add music back then lol
K3fka: Haha
K3fka: So this means you had the ideas for the story, characters, etc. even before you started hacking? When did that all start?
Eevee: Sicari was the only character I really had an idea for, even after I submitted the demo
Eevee: K-16 came much later actually
Eevee: story, I admit, I had no proper idea for it
Eevee: kept changing my mind on things
K3fka: Oh, so you really only started developing things after you joined.
Eevee: yep
Eevee: in fact
Eevee: it wasn't even until K-16 - Story of Steel where I had a larger idea for the series
K3fka: Interesting!
K3fka: And now you have bigger plans for the series, right?
Eevee: yep
K3fka: Care to share where you'd like to take the series going forward?
Eevee: well there's another hack for after SR I revealed ages ago, but it's postponed until I've finished what I'm doing
Eevee: I'd highly advise against working on two hacks at once lol
K3fka: Hell, I could never even manage one at once! I imagine it's pretty tough to take on multiple large-scale projects.
Eevee: it's hard enough to take on one :V
K3fka: Yeah, it is.
K3fka: Aside from your series of hacks, do you have other goals for hacking projects?
Eevee: Not too sure; all I really want is to develop my own skills as much as I can. I've learned a lot and I want to keep learning
K3fka: Ah, just see where it takes you.
Eevee: yeah
K3fka: So of course I have to ask how you even found out about SMW hacking in the first place.
Eevee: iirc, it was through YouTube videos related to hacking, since when I was younger the idea of level designing intrigued me, regardless of the game
Eevee: thing is, at least at the time, Mario seemed the most accessible
Eevee: there were so many things online that allowed my to create Mario levels, but I thought SMW hacking seemed the best way to do it
Eevee: before properly getting into SMW hacking though, I hacked the Gen 3 Pokémon games
Eevee: didn't get very far, but I'd like to try it again sometime
K3fka: Oh, I also tried Pokemon hacking before SMW, but it was too complex for me to get into much.
Eevee: yeah the tools aren't the most user friendly lol
Eevee: might have changed though, I'll have to check properly
K3fka: Alright, so aside from hacking, I know you also like to do art. How long have you been drawing for?
Eevee: as long as I can remember
Eevee:
K3fka: Hmm so you knew pretty early on that you liked doing art, then.
Eevee: yup
K3fka: As I imagine everyone knows, you're a fan of Pokemon, and I know you're excited for the new games coming out soon. What are you most looking forward to in them?
Eevee: Probably training the new Pokémon; I'm likely gonna go for a full Alola team. Also the meta game, I'm very excited for how that will play out with all the changes
K3fka: Yes, as someone with a bit of an interest in the competitive scene, the changes that have been made sound very interesting.
Eevee: indeed
K3fka: So let's move on to some random questions!
Eevee: sure thing lol
K3fka: What's your favorite movie? You can name a few if it's too difficult to pick just one.
Eevee: er yeah that's a hard question lol
Eevee: gonna probably say Empire Strikes Back since that's always tons of fun
K3fka: That's my favorite in the SW series too.
Eevee: nice
K3fka: If you could meet any famous person, alive or dead, who would it be?
Eevee: that one, I can't really say - way too many to choose
K3fka: Hmm maybe my interview skills are too strong...
K3fka: Let's try...what's your favorite game system?
Eevee: Ps1 without a doubt; so many childhood favourites on there
K3fka: That's a strong system for sure. It had a ton of games.
K3fka: Would you rather live in the city or the country?
Eevee: probably the city; when I went to New York a few years back, it was a really unique experience for me, since I've never been anywhere like that in my life. The country can be a bit too lonely at times I feel. Been to the Lake District a few times; lovely place, but you just feel so isolated
K3fka: Gotta agree, I love the business of the city. Country is too slow and empty for me.
K3fka: Well I think it's about time to wrap it up. Do you have any final thoughts you'd like to share with everyone?
Eevee: love you all <3
K3fka: Alright, see ya next time, everyone!
Eevee: Very nice, also a bit tired lol
