well, if we wanna be technical, you didn't spell anything ~wrong~ because summery is an actual word, it's just used to describe things that are summer-like in feeling. #w{=D}
glad to have a head start in trying to speedrun this game :)
took you long enough

It's next to the hang glider in the mountain map.

Fantastic job @ everyone involved in this, and to Jack for seeing this through to the end. It's much harder than people expect to put this together, but the result this year is astounding.

the vaporwave map is still the best thing ever made in smw tbh
Wow, I'm so happy to see that VLDC9 finally came out! I just started playing it, and boy it sure looks like a lot of fun! Anyway, thanks to all of those who made this possible, regardless of the time it took, the wait was totally worth it. Also, I really hope I can make a better level next year, even though I kinda feel doubtful that we're even gonna have a VLDC next year, since this one took loads of effort to finish.

I noticed that the secret exit in "Simple Path" in the worst world is resoundingly shit (we didn't even know it existed until during beta testing), so here's a brief spoiler on how to get it:

In the room with the midway, climb the ledges and jump up in the middle of them to hit a block with a Yoshi. Get the Yoshi, take it further into the level past the fish. You'll hit some yellow switch blocks - just to the left of that in the water is a pipe, which you may or may not be able to see depending on your emulator. Take that to the secret exit room.
YES YES YES YES YES
Thanks a billion times to everyone who participated in the making of this. You can't possibly imagine how much I was waiting for this. Thank you Jack, thank you S.N.N., thank you every single one of you people. You all can be proud of your hard work :D
Another question:
Can I use the ∞ symbol in an compilation hack that I'm creating?

GAH! Ninja'd three times in one day!

Edit: Level 17!

I should have something witty to put here (even if it's just to update dated info), shouldn't I?

It's not hard to replicate, dude.

On a more personal note from my side. It has now been one year since discussion started on how to do the judging, what the base ROM should look like and whatnot, so it is fair to say that I've worked on this project for an entire year now and I can tell you. I don't ever wanna do this again :D

Does this mean there won't be a VLDC10 collab hack?

Talk about who's gonna run the next contest is already in process and someone expressed interest. Not gonna say who yet in case that person changes his mind.
It's hard to say what the future will bring. :3

After playing a few levels, here's a couple more thoughts (don't worry, none of them are bug reports):

* The ASM work is simply breathtaking (in quantity and extent as well as polish). Looking at it, it's a miracle you guys could finish this hack at all.
* I'm really glad to have entered the contest this year! It's somewhat of an honor having a level of mine featured in an epic hack like this. Also glad I could contribute title screen graphics, though they've ended up being by far the least impressive thing.
* Starting to get grumpy that I just barely missed the top 10 though. >_< The top 10 world is pretty fantastic!
* How did you pull off the "individual Yoshi Coin saving" feature? Are you using separate Map16 tiles for each coin, like SMWCP2 does, or is something far more sophisticated at play?

great job on getting this finished so quickly, everybody! I know it sounds like I'm joking, but the time between beta testing and final release was shockingly brief, especially for a project of this scope. I wasn't here for the actual contest so I'm looking forward to getting caught up on
who i'll need to keep an eye on next year
!!

e: typo~♪
ask me if i give a f*ck...
The yoshi coin saving patch is the same one JUMP used... well, almost. I tweaked it so it saves only at midpoint and goal. iirc it uses a mix of item memory and position on a per level basis for 4 coins (there is no point saving the 5th). Each coin takes 2 bytes, 4 coins per level and because of the extension C0 levels is 0x600 bytes of SRAM for this nonsense :D

patch link if you care.

So are you going to finish the vldc9 OR WHA-

Oh it's here now cool. Congrats!
Jack, you were the new SNN for a year. Except in more quiet and shy. And watches more anime. And also makes gambling bots sometimes. You're cool! Even if it doesn't show, we respect you and everyone who worked hard on this, better late than never!
