we will also have another level design contest later this year, but as for what exactly is unsure. the choices are basically Chocolate Level Design Contest, Halloween Level Design Contest, or some sort of Festive Level Design Contest for winter. it's been a while since we've had a Halloween Level Design Contest, but that doesn't necessarily mean you guys actually want to have an HLDC... we will probably do a poll for this rather soon, but if you have any strong opinions right now go ahead and share them in this thread.
Alright idol, here is what I am about to say and forgive me if I am doing something wrong with this post: Run the Chocolate Level Design Contest (CLDC) as-is this year. Reason being that any holiday-specific level themes can be judged within a general free-for-all contest that the CLDC is which allows for a diverse array of level settings one can come up with that is not tied to any holiday (Halloween and Christmas being the relevant holidays in dispute) and that having holiday-specific level contests should only last for within the duration the months that hold those holidays allow for the setting.
Additionally, and this might sound radical of me so please bear with me here, but I personally believe that the CLDC can afford to run with a timeframe that overlaps other content creation contests such as the ExGFX contest*. That is, if the timeframe in which you (as in, the staff in charge of deciding these contests) may allow for that to be done before, concurrently, or after, your call. I say this knowing the level design applications regarding graphical, ASM, and musical resources that are made can go into levels that are of interest to level designers like myself who would very well be inclined to enter said level contest and perhaps see how those resources fare in a level design setting if given the opportunity, in this case to illustrate my point, which the CLDC is placed before the ExGFX contest so far as it stands on the event calendar currently. I will also say if the duration of the timeframe does intersect with the ExGFX contest, the CLDC participants who decide to use that timeframe to wait for said contest's information to be posted are taking a risk by doing so if they start in the middle of contest's timeframe at best, late at worst by depending on another event to be inspired to do their levels, nevermind the fact that if the individual entrants of the ExGFX contest will allow for their own graphical entries be used by the CLDC participants at all.
If that point above you find to be rather nonsensical or insensitive, forgive me. Thats p much what my thoughts are.
* = Side Note: In this case, perhaps strongly in this case I have held the notion considering that a graphics creation contest that is, if it is held this year if its going to be another tileset/bg theme considering the historical context of the past few ExGFX contests this site has ran so far does have level design applications to which I am not opposed to be seeing a level design component be involved for that contest if you, the staff have plans for that be applied and if not, feel free to either dispute or disregard this particular thought here.
