I wouldn't say so much a hack as Super Mario Limitless or something like that
• What about a boss battle on a platform dangling over a maelstrom (perhaps something like Iggy or a Bully/Chuckya that doesn't throw Mario into tomorrow of next year, and don't fly backwards so far either), and if either of them falls in they are forced around in circles before disappearing (and dying) at the bottom of the screen.

• Some slopes that hurt Mario if he slides too fast. Like if he were sliding on a giant sword or something.

Totally not influenced by one of Cracked.com's articles, what are you talking about.

Didn't mention anything else since most hacks have Instant Death Water already, and I'm pretty sure a giant crack in the ground has also been explored.

What about a hack, that's built as you play?

The story would be, Mario wakes up. It starts with a frantic message from the "creator" saying Mario woke up too early, and the team will have to work twice as fast. The game begins as normal, the first world seemingly perfectly okay. The occasional message from the "creator" telling you to kill yourself so you can be put back into stasis, which you obviously ignore.

[Mod edit: Please don't quote huge posts like this.]

I actually like this idea. i would actually even make this game, if I knew ASM. :P

with an alternate perception of that idea you could imagine Mario as a schizophrenic man who hears voices telling him to kill himself

that's a serious problem, mate.

All jokes aside though, that's pretty interesting. The whole creator talking to the main character and the unfinished type of everything reminds me heavily of Portal 2 (Which might or might not be intended)
Listening to this song gave me an idea: a boss battle where the music starts out only playing only the main melody channel, with more channels being added as the boss is hurt and the battle progresses. With a suitably epic track, it'd make for one hell of a neat gimmick for a final boss.

I think it might be possible to do something like this with AddmusicM? If I hadn't already decided on using Addmusic 4.05 for my hack, I might have given it a try.
It would be possible in Addmusic 4.05 as well. In fact, it might actually be easier in Addmusic 4.05; you'd just have to start out with 7 of the 8 channels muted, then play custom sound effects that turn on the other channels.
I have no idea if this will be accepted: a HUGE maze underwater with P-Switch shenanigans. Sokobansolver, you can eat your head now.

Figure of speech. And I don't think it would be well liked unless you somehow did it right, and I think mazes are real hard to do right.

Blue Beached Koopas kick things other than shells.

Grow on that.
Though progress is slow (very slow) and I bear little ASM lore, I am thinking of adding random semi-boss fights (similar to the Kirby series) and give all, once dumb, monsters higher dexterity to up the difficulty (such as regular nokonokos[koopas] racing inside their shells at Princess Peach as goombas fly up and attempt to headbonk her. ). I will also create(IF possible) foes from other mario games or even beyond like Stumpet, Straw Head(Super Mario RPG); and perhaps a Gem Slime (Dragon Quest).
Hopefully no one mirrors this one.
I made a story. You can give credit, and it's free to use this story if you lack one and are making a hack...

Anyway, the story starts when the Mario Bros. had foiled a Bowser's plan once again (surprise, right?) and he's disappointed. Walking back to his castle and starting to plan again. Why, why? Why there's must be a pair of plumbers always ruining my plans? But then the castle collapses, and Bowser's minions barely survive, however Bowser himself doesn't. After that, Mushroom Kingdom's residents are being terrorized. Luigi ends up in a hospital when a giant rock falls on him.

Peach gets enough of this, and orders Mario to investigate and find out who caused all this panic...

Ending is inside this spoiler...

Mario then confronts the main antagonist himself in the final battle. It ends in the antagonist stepping in one of it's own inventions, which splits him/her into subatomic particles, causing a brief flash. After this, Mario finds Bowser's soul captured in a glass bottle. It would, upon opening, flow into the air, destroying it.

However, Mario and Luigi (who has survived and fully recovered), take the soul into Elvin Gadd, who has invented a device which could connect souls into bodies. They connect the Bowser's soul into his body. Despite this, Bowser has no memory, therefore has no memories and doesn't remember who he is. He walks into the castle, and possible ending chance is that Mario and Luigi blink eye to each other? idk

You can use this story freely, but I'd appreciate if you give credit. I even have a proposal for the name, "Mushroom Kingdom Panic" or "Mushroom Kingdom Shocked". I have no idea for main antagonist, so you could come up with it yourself.
Well i need ideas in my hack it will have multiple world themes and you can beat them in any orders so yeah you can reach the final level here are the worlds:

reef/water/ice paradise - element water/freeze

jungle/earth/mines/diamond(sand crystal) - element earth(quake)/diamond

sky mountains/wind thunder - element wind/thunder

hot sand/fire/lava - element hot/fire/lava

light/gold/holy - element light/healing

darkness(shadow)/underworld - element darkness(shadow)/hell

moon/space - element moon/shapeshift

jungle flower/tree/ancient - tree energy/counter

so yeah please tell me what bosses(8 bosses) can be in each world specific to these elements please tell me!And tell me about an idea for an final boss and I have a music perfect for a final boss in my filebin i downloaded somewhere here in SMWC

Here's an idea: a secret joke level titled 'the fourth wall' that's a puzzle level with lots of breaks, so that if you find a shortcut, you can say "I broke the fourth wall!"
What if... there was a hack that has two levels, and it has a (giant) Metroid boss? (I'm too lazy to code a boss like that) For each hit, the layer 3 smash would try to crush you, but if it crushes something else, it would collapse. giant Metroid also shoots one little Metroid that will try to kill you automatically, and then he shoots some Sparkies in all directions. For the last hit, you must remain above the boss or then it would kill you immediately.
For the second half of the boss, (highlight if you can stand spoilers)
there would be two Metroids, that means things would be a little more difficult. The Giant Metroid would give you anti-coins. Then the Chuck is spawned and you must kill the Metroid with it before turn blocks would be spawned. Kill the Metroid one last time and then you're done.
Then you're lead to a level that has metroids and anti-coins.

That would sound like a very tough boss to battle and code. Nothing else to say, I can't handle ASM.

I have my own idea (which is probably possible) but I can't get it to work.
These screenshots will also help explain it.

Hits the switch and turns to...

After the switch runs out of time, it's dark again.

The gimmick for an area like this is to use one blue P-Switch after another or be forced to stumble around in a pitch-black area. How is it possible for me to get it to work in my hack?
I'm not sure if this has been suggested before, but I think that something like switching between walking on the FG and on the BG (like the Paper Mario series) with a pipe could be possible. I've actually tried coding this; however a load of custom blocks and sprites would need to be used and it'd just be a pain. I still think the idea could be done though.

Regarding the previous post:

It's very possible. You'd just need to check to see if the P-switch is enabled or not, and if it is, light up the screen. If it's not, make it near pitch black. Put this in LevelASM (both level and init):

Code
LDA $14AD	;\ If P-Switch is not active, make it dark
BEQ MakeDark	;/

LDA #$0F	;\ If it is, make it bright
STA $0DAE	;/
BRA Return

MakeDark:
LDA #$01 ;\ Make it dark
STA $0DAE ;/

Return:
RTS

I actually like that idea; I just might use it.
I just thought of an idea for a Kaizo/puzzle hack. The hack is titled Mario is Bored and the level design consists of various puzzles that force the player to abuse glitches found in the videos on nathanisbored's channel.
I don't know if this has been done before, but a series of chambers (rooms) where a player has to enter the correct sries of door sin sequence or (s)he'll be sent to the beginning. (Think of those castles in SMB). You could also do this with pipes too, if you WANT to you can give hints to the player as to which way he or she should take...
Not sure how feasible this is, and I'm not sure if this has been suggested (or even done), but a hack where Mario has a Portal gun and he would be able to shoot portals at walls, just like in the Portal games, would be awesome. If it is possible, I think it would take a lot of coding expertise.
Before anyone asks, I will not play Mari0 instead because the computer I use is not advanced enough to run it (too laggy) yet it can run Portal 2. So I guess Mari0 is somehow more of a resource hog than Portal 2.
An "Introduction" level! Obviosuly, we all know how to play SMW, those who grew up with it (moi) and those of this younger generation who grew to love it...

But hear me out now. For hacks with varying controls and effects you could either stop the level with messages "This does X to the player, getting Y of these makes THIS happen". Think of level 0 in yoshi's island! :)
