Mostly copied from my help thread:

The status bar is infested with zeroes! It works fine on an expanded vanilla SMW ROM, even with all the other patches applied, but it doesn't work on the ROM that I've been using to make ExGFX, that only has custom ExGFX and some levels. I've been unable to recreate it manually with the insertion of ExGFX, even the same ones that were in another ROM that has the issue.

I'm able to consistently recreate the issue.
-Take a vanilla ROM in Lunar Magic
-Open this level in ROM, save it to the ROM (level removed)
-Apply status bar patch
-In an emulator, enter any level at all, even ones that are not the one you just inserted
-Observe glitches
(the level is supposed to have ExGFX and map16 tiles associated with it but you don't even need those, the ROM doesn't even need an ExGFX list)
(not sure if it needs to be level 105; it definetly doesn't break if you extract and then reinsert the original level 105)

exanimation seems to be the problem

i'll have to look for another range of ram to use (here i was thinking $0AF6 was free in levels)
im not getting any issues from using $0BF6 instead of $0AF6. so try that

i'll do a bit more testing until i submit an update. let's call this a typo fix instead of a bug fix #smrpg{y}
Is there a way to turn off the bonus star counter and also have it not show up on the status bar? When I disable it just turns the numbers into two dashes.

Not too familiar with asm. Where and what would i change in the asm file to fix that.

oh lol i thought i had the tilemap as a separate file

look for a table called .StatusTiles and just change the values. if you want also change .StatusProps (these are the tile palettes/properties)

Do i just set them equal to $FC? Again sorry, but im not very familiar with ASM

Also one more question: is there a way to make the background transparent instead of black?

yes, fc

and due to the way the status bar is set up, it is not recommended to make the bg transparent. it would defeat the whole purpose of the status bar, and youd get glitchy colors if you use palettes 0/1, among other nonsense. you can change the color at least (its a define at the top)
