Graphics & Related Topics Forum Rules (2022/07/16)

Link Thread Closed
Welcome to the Graphics & Related Topics forum! The place on SMW Central's forums for all your SMW custom graphics (or if you're cool, ExGFX) chat. In addition to these forum-specifc rules, the SMW Central Site-Wide Rules still apply here.

About This Forum

This forum is for any kind of discussion on SMW graphics. Whether it's help/questions, you want to show off your work, or just talk about pixels. We've got threads here where you can showoff your work, pickup the basics, or you can make your own!

Remember to check out SMW Central's site F.A.Q. too. This has a section on Graphics, and how to get started using the GFX/ExGFX features in Lunar Magic.

Forum Rules

1. This forum is not for graphics requests.

If you have a request, you should use our dedicated Requests forum. Make sure you read the relevant rules there before you make a request, though.

2. When asking for help, provide as much information as possible.

Providing as much information as possible and being specific when you are trying to get help on a problem will help you get your answers quicker. Post screenshots, GIFs, or even a video, so we can help understand the issue and help you appropriately.

3. Posted images should be of a good quality, and sensible file size.

Good quality pictures help us notice details better, which is especially important on giving feedback. The preferred image format is PNG for static images, and GIF for animated images. Avoid JPEGs and BMPs entirely. If posting a GIF, make sure it's not too large in file size. LICEcap is a user friendly GIF recording program that makes low-sized files. It's best to take screenshots with your emulator's internal screenshot function.

4. Don't go overboard when upscaling your images.

Sometimes an image at x2 zoom is helpful, as native size may not make your problems apparent or show off your graphics well. However, upsizing too much can lead us to actually miss details. x2 zoom is usually enough for most cases.

5. Give constructive criticism.

Make sure you can help the person showing off their work to notice the problems in it and give tips for improvement. For graphics rips, you can help to find ways to optimize tilemaps and palettes. Don't just post empty praises. Be specific at which parts or aspects of the work being shown off caught your attention and interest the most.

Should you have a question about this forum, please feel free to PM one of the moderators of this forum (listed under the "Moderated by:" section on the Forum Index). Please don't PM the moderators asking for help or feedback. That's what this forum is for! If you have any questions on the SMW Graphics section itself, you should contact one of the SMW Graphics Moderators.

We also have a #graphics channel on our official SMW Central Discord server, where you can also ask questions/get feedback too.
Updated the first post to point out that you are allowed to make personal threads to showoff your custom graphics work. Think of them as the graphical equivalents to personal SPC threads in the Custom Music forum.
The rules have had their formatting adjusted to be in-line with other forum-specific rules posts. There's no change to the meaning of the rules, they've just been re-worded to be consistent with other forum-specifc rules.
