Cool life-farming ideas?

Hi :)

As I couldn't find an infinite lives patch that works, I'm heading toward having a life farming level/section, like a one-screen level. But I'd like it to be cool... and that's where my lack of life-farming skills comes into play :D

Do you have any cool ideas that you are willing to share and see somewhere else (of course don't give me an idea you had yourself and don't want to see used)? Not necessarily YOUR idea that you designed, but just some ideas.

The types I could think of: star with enemy spam (but enemies aren't infinite and number of sprite on screen is an issue), hitting a koopa going back and forth under water, duplication (I think you can, but I don't like that idea though).

Thanks!
The most known way is to put a shell in a one-tile wide water gap.

Aside from that, JUMP has got a couple of unique life forming spots including:
  • A row of noteblocks with a shell on top. At the sides there are a couple bulletbill shooters.
  • A fast shooting bullet bill shooter with a vertical level wrap and invincibility (ASM)
  • A water bubble generator and throw blocks (there is a glitch that these bubbles still interact with carryable sprites even when they actually pop)
  • Two Torpedo Teds which bounce of a wall and you have got star power for unlimited time (similar to the bubbles, they still interact with Mario even if they are in a status which they supposedly shouldn't do) (ASM)

Edit: Or you can take a look at the ROM Map and create a patch which disables to lose a life after death:
Code
org $00D0D8
NOP #3

You then can take a status bar editor to easily remove the life counter.

Edit²: Fixed HTML tag.
Thank you for those ideas!!
I had indeed seen them in JUMP, and they were really nice! I'll see what I can do ;)
I've used Puntin' Chucks + Disco shell a few times. Not super efficient, but it's automatic.

A boo block + shell + balloon can get you 80 or so lives quickly, but sometimes the player has to provide some input because the boo block is not facing the correct direction or something.

A key or baby yoshi inside a 1-up block can duplicate infinite 1-ups.
invisible mario in a vertical level falling down an invisible shaft collecting invisible moons with a fixed background image of something epic like Way Cool while wacky music plays.

It helps if you disable or change the 1-up get sound effect for that specific level to something else, so it's less obvious what's happening.
ask me if i give a f*ck...
Bullet Bill launchers put on the ground combined with a shell and a wall to make it stay there would take a bit but it works.
Yellow Switch Palace, only with 3up moons.
You guys have quite some ideas :)
Thanks ;)

Many other hacks utilise this too. That being said, Brutal Mario is the first hack I had seen this trick so yeah, this.

It was the first time I saw it too, except I had to watch a YouTube video of it in action just to figure out. #fim{:P}

Make a cafe themed level that only serves 3UP Moons for free.

That's cute, although tbh the purpose of a life farm is to give lives very quickly so that the player can move on to do other things.

For example, to get the life farm in Bits and Pieces, you have to do some item babysitting in a bar before reaching the life farm. This got kind of annoying after a while (since I life farmed so much).

Lol that's only fitting!

I feel like the speed of the life farm isn't as important as the hilarity and intricacy of its setup, especially when it all happens automatically.
Bullet Bill generator + climbable material (mesh/vine)
Block that set your live counter to 99.

A single room. Flying cheep cheep generator. Rising and falling tides, with a pit to the left. The player can acquire a power up from a changing power up item. If the player gets the star, skillfully leaping will chain 1ups. Sweeten the challenge by providing a Star2 block.

It would make a good challenge early in the game. A novice player might be overwhelmed by all the flying cheep cheep and escape up the exit pipe located directly above where the player enters. The rewards are only there if you show a little boldness.
