Contest Request/Ideas

I'm thinking about making a contest for pure custom (NOT ported from other gamed) music to see who is the best custom composer.

Another idea I have is an America's got talent based level contest. Like there would be 3 judges, and If they don't like it, they use an "X"

My question here is can I go ahead and do them (Or one)? If so, how can I advertise it to all of SMWC?

We used to allow user-hosted contests very casually (you just had to ask if your contest was good in some sticky thread and wait for a moderator's approval), but they more often than not turned out to get very little attention due to generally lacking prizes and sometimes due to lack of reliability in the hosts.

Nowadays, if you do want to host a contest yourself, you can go ahead and talk to me, but I won't consider it unless you have a very detailed planning of how it'll go and can assure me that you can manage it to the end. It also has to have a good timing (i.e. not overlap with other big contests, unless it's not related to hacking i.e. the non-VGM tourney).

As for your two ideas: no to the first because we already have Idol later this year; as for the second one, are you thinking a multi-round level contest? Multi-round contests in general have proven to be very draining, so I doubt a user-hosted contest of that magnitude would get a lot of attention.

Technically you're allowed to host a contest in the form of a C3 thread, though, so try that out if you wish.
It's easily the best thing I've done
So why the empty numb?
How about a Super Mario Maker to Super Mario World level remake contest? I could provide levels for everyone to remake!

Or a puzzle contest? CCLC (Creatve confusion level contest) we could call it! :)

What would be the point of recreating pre-existing levels? Provided there are enough decently skilled people it's perfectly possible to have two or more exact same entries. Unless you're suggesting something else to give the contest an interesting twist...

A puzzle contest could work. Although I'd like to know what kind of puzzle you're refering to cuz it actually could be pretty interesting. 🤔

Sounds very good. Are you referring to a kaizo puzzle, like maybe Super Puzzle World series or regular puzzle which doesn't require intricate and frame-perfect tricks? If you choose one possibility, yeah, it might work. I think it's simpler to call it Puzzle Level Design Contest (PLDC)

I have yet another idea for a contest. You have to make a level using only your or provided by Nintendo resources. You can use your old resources too, but remember to not use others' ones (music, GFX, ASM, etc.). We can call it Resource Level Design Contest (RLDC) if you want.
I have a Discord server as well! (by joining, you agree to the rules)

Except that that only allowed you to use nintendo's resources not your own.

Though I don't think it's the best idea to be limited to one's own resources as people that don't really make their own stuff are basically limited to nintendo's resources.

Or a puzzle contest?

Wasn't there a puzzle contest already? I have like 5 puzzles on my pc that were apparently made for a contest.
Wouldn't mind seeing another one though
My idea is different from OLDC because you can make your own music, ExGFX, ASM. Every custom resource should be yours. Maybe it's not the best idea like Biob said, but in VLDC people who know only basic functions of Lunar Magic and don't know how to use AddMusicK nor make own tilesets using original GFX or merge GFX with YY-CHR are limited to pure vanilla.

So what you mean is, use anything only YOU made, and the rest should be completely vanilla?

I think this is a good idea. I also agree with the PLDC name.
*everything stops*
Yeah, that's me. You're probably wondering how I got into this situation...
*cut to next post*
Alrighty! I was wondering when I could do it, Idol told me that there were lots of contests this year, do probably sometime next year
