What is the best game of all time?
SMB3/SMW.
Super Mario World
Super Mario World 2
SMB 3
SM 64
Earthbound
SMAS+World
I sense the closing of this thread.
I'd scream fanboyism, but hey, look what forum I'm on.

Anyway, here's 5 of them, in no real order, and this is going not just by gameplay itself, but by originality in some cases:

Ninja Gaiden (NES)
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Halo 3
Guitar Hero (series)
Tales of Symphonia

Your senses are pretty close.

I'm giving this thread one last chance before I close it before for good. So far, no one has provided any kind of content on why they chose those games. I'm not very fond of "list threads" because they provide very little content and should be considered spam. A brief sentence or two about why you like each game would be fine.

Meh, I'll might add my favorite games later if I feel like it. That depends if this thread shapes up. >_>

Itīs hard to tell what's the best game ever. There are many different kind of games who are good at different ways. One of my favourite games of all time is super mario galaxy, but I just canīt say ítīs the ebst game ever.
Super Mario RPG: This game brought so many new features to Mario along with 2 new characters, a great plot (that is being overused) and can get somewhat challenging (try beating [color=000000]Culex</span> without any armor or weapons).
Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings: This is a time consuming RTS game that seems to have infinite possibilities. You can choose to fortify your self and try to slowly expand, try to bombard your opponents with legeons of soldiers or build up your economy until you can dececrate your foes.
Extreme Tux Racer: I never know where I am and yet I always can find my way. The herring are a nice addition and the options can help change the game. It has a certain feeling to it that makes it very fun.
Super Smash Bros. Melee: This had so many things that made it more exciting than Brawl. It had the fun bonuses and clever events that seemed much harder than those in Brawl. The Adventure mode was short but sweet. It took longer to complete than the random classic mode and had quite a few secrets and bonuses. The trophies were great fun to unlock, even if you didn't know what to do. You would try everything to get them. The fast paced battles would boost the usefulness of certain non-glitch techniques. Even with the glitches being exploited, it's still one of the best games I can think of. (The others also being included in this post.)
My most favorite game changes each time so there isn't a real game I would prefer forever. But the game I'm currently completely into, is "Metroid Prime 2: Echoes". It's somehow addicting, I just started to play it out of boredomness and then caught myself while sitting 2 hours in front of my TV enjoying the awesomness of this GC game.

The atmosphere is great, swinging through the worlds of Aether is just fun, prepare to explore plenty of new places after you got the next power-up. Toggle to the dark Aether to activate switches/etc. which opens up new paths on the light side of that planet.

Also the bosses are greatly made, there aren't much of those bosses I consider as "big" ones but if you fight against one of the big guys, prepare for a long, epic battle.

There isn't anything else I could say about this game except that it wins.

Banjo-Kazooie- Hey, what's not to love about it? It's got Rare's infamous item collecting, diverse worlds, a decent explanation to things like the double jump, and it's music is awesome! Banjo-Tooie and Grunty's Revenge follow with this. (Not so much -Pilot, as I didn't think it really fit the Banjo name, and I've yet to play Nuts and Bolts, so I can't say anything about that).

Super Mario Galaxy- From it's orchestrated music to it's new and innovative power-ups (Ice Flower for the win) and worlds that occasionally made you think, this is the best in the 3-D Mario games (opinion here).

Super Mario Sunshine- I think that both 64 and Galaxy did better than Sunshine, however, after I beat it, I can find so much amusement in just running around, jumping from building to building, pulling off all sorts of moves (A current challenge I like to do is try to navigate levels without touching the ground).

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl- While some of the Pokemon weren't as memorable as the older ones, a lot of them were, and it caused me to try to form a team of favorite new Pokemon (Roserade, Drapion, Leafeon, etc.). The plot, I think anyway, was one of the most pulling yet- kidnapping the three "fairy" Pokemon and using the power to control Dialga/Palkia was darker then "Team Rocket is being evil by trying to capture but failed to do so Mewtwo" or "Team Aqua/Magma/Both are trying to harness their respectful legendaries to add more water / land / both to the world." Of course, it did have some flaws- it brought up the total number of legendaries to over 30. "How legendary are they if'n everyone is?"

Sailor Moon: Another Story- Other than Pokemon, this is one of the only RPGs I've ever really gotten in to (Unless you count Zelda as an RPG series- some do). An original story instead of random fighting ala Street Fighter was definitely a good idea. The music was decent, too. Moonlight Densetsu sounded good as an SPC. The only other reason I have is that Tuxedo Mask is in the game! Complete with rose throw for an entrance and his theme playing!

I've more, I may post them later.

why?
It's hard to choose a single game that I find to be the best of the best. The reason is my taste changes regularly, so I may find one game better than another, but then switch it around. Thus, I present a few games I have found to be enjoyable no matter how many times I play them.

Resident Evil 4 - I never played a Resident Evil game before this one. I never wanted to play one to say the truth. A friend of mine wanted to rent it so we could try it out, and I grudgingly agreed. I rented it a total of 5 times after that until I finally got around to buying it for good. It is one of the most immersive games I have ever played. The graphics was the best I've seen on the Gamecube at the time. This game was packed with things to do, and I never grow tired of shooting a rocket at the villagers:D

Super Mario Galaxy - The Mario platformers have always been one of my favorite games of all time. When I first saw news about Galaxy, I knew I had to get a Wii just to play it. And boy, was I right. I got this game along with my Wii, and I had a blast. The new style of gameplay was truly revolutional for a Mario game, but I still knew..."This is Mario!" Super Mario 64 revolutionized the 3D platformer. Super Mario Galaxy took it a step further.

Kingdom Hearts 2 - I have always been a softie when it comes to RPG's. When I saw the first Kingdom Hearts, I was upset that I would never be able to play it, since my parents wouldn't allow me to get a PS2. When the sequel was announced, I was even more upset, seeing how awesome the game would be. To my luck, my sister got a PS2 soon after, and I was able to play both games. The sequel is my favorite of the two. The storyline was deep, and the gameplay never got old. The unique drive forms was another plus. Also, the soundtrack is one of my personal favorite from any game.

Final Fantasy Tactics A2 - Yet another RPG, but this one is different. The first FFTA was my first tactical RPG, and I loved every minute of it. The layer of depth was very entertaining. Picking and choosing classes and jobs in order to build the perfect clan took up a good 70+ hours of my time. Now, the sequel is even better IMO. The addition of two new races, along with quite a few new jobs adds a new layer to this tactical RPG. With the addition of 400 quests, this game has taken me 80+ hours already...and I still have 200 quests to go!

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption - The Metroid Prime series is what really brought me to like FPS. The third and final game in this excellent trilogy brought the series to a satisfying close. With the innovative capabilities of the Wii, I felt more in tune with the game than ever before, which really cemented Corruption as my favorite Prime game. Excellent graphics, surprisingly good voice acting, and a great soundtrack was also a plus.

Portal - Ahh...Portal. I'm sure just about everyone has heard of it. Whether they've played the actual game, or if they heard the phrase "THE CAKE IS A LIE!!!!", Portal is everywhere. But really, what's not to like about the game. This FPS puzzle is unique, and I haven't seen a game quite like this one. The game itself is challenging, yet your always excited to see what's next. And to top it all off, the one liners from GLADOS are downright hilarious. I found myself laughing at this game more than anything before. Can't wait for the sequel!

Also, I want to list a few games that I found to be great as well...I'm just lazy and don't want to type a description for all of them:D

Metroid: Zero Mission
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
New Super Mario Brothers
Super Smash Brothers Brawl
Bioshock
Half-Life series
Advance Wars: Dual Strike
Tales of Symphonia
Golden Sun series
Paper Mario series

That's it for now:D

yes epic win^_^
Half-Life 2. It got off to a bit of a slow start, but it was an absolute masterpiece. Episodes 1 and 2 were pretty good too, and Ep 2 had one of the greatest moments in the history of gaming- Into the Breach. Towards the end, the entire place gets SWARMED with antlions, and this starts blaring through your speakers.

Final Fantasy 3 (6) for the SNES.

IMO, it has the best non-stratagy turned based RPG battle system so far created. (by non-stratagy, I mean without a board or grid, as FFT or Disgaea have)
It has pretty good story. There are better stories out there, but this one's certainly above par.
Graphics are adequate, with some incredible sprite art for enemies.
Music is incredible. IMO, Nobuo Uematsu's overall best.
And finally, quite simply the best character development in any video game, ever. I have a hard time empathising with the characters in books and film as deeply as I do with those in this game.
In b4 fanboyism

Concealed the Conclusion ^_________^
Mother 3. It's all the best parts of gameplay/story put in one: RPG gameplay, different characters for each chapter, epic. Very epic. There is no game better than this epic game. Too bad it was only released in Japan.
