"[Image reveal]" filter option in posts, for user's with low bandwidth

I noticed that there's still a bandwidth saving culture on this website.

Would it be possible to have a process where if someone tries to embed a picture onto their, post, that it instead comes up with something like a button linking to the image? So they can click on it and it directs them to the image, or the image loads into the post?

Perhaps it could be one button that appears at the top of the post, like the way Outlook 2016 does it:

I'm suggesting something like this for images embedded in any way (except within layouts, since they're 200kb-), although in my experience of phpBB forums it would be easier to but this custom stuff in [img] BBCode.

This way we could potentially be a bit more relaxed about linking to pictures, because users could change a setting in their preferences to enable all embedded images. Except those large resolution images that stretch out the pages.

Just a thought. What say you?

So it would work kinda like the Discord option to hide images? Only in this case it would give you the option to display the image without open it as a separate link, or that's what I understand.

Would be good to have an option like this, considering some people still uses limited data to navegate, and that we already have the option to hide layouts for example. Not sure about how hard would it be to implement, this one sounds a bit hard.
