Hello there and welcome to the thread about the first main series games in the 8th Generation of the Pokémon series! Pokémon Sword and Shield features an all new world known as the Galar region as well as brand-new Pokémon, including two new Legendaries, namely Zacian and Zamazenta. The game also features new, uh, features, such as Dynamaxing, Gigantamax Pokémon, Poké-camping, curry making (yum!), Max Raid Battles and more!

Got questions about these games? Then post it here! Good luck, trainers!

Three Pokeballs = Three Starters? #smw{o_O?}
Probably, I remember X and Y's starter's were all revealed at the same time of the game's announcement.

Absolute worst-case scenario: All we get is the game's logos like when they revealed Sun and Moon on pokemon day in 2016.

I hope the game has human models that at least look like Sun and Moon's characters in HD. Not like Pokemon Let's go.
For all the goddamn sales pokemon keeps making, You'd think they could afford to at least put in a bit of work into their games. I feel like they didn't even want to move on from the 3DS, Ishihara didn't exactly look too happy when he had to announce pokemon was coming to the Switch.

Here's hoping for the best anyways, I love pokemon so I really want it to be great. I could say more, but I just want to wait and see.
I doubt it's a problem of money, probably more a problem of time. Pokemon is that one franchise that they probably have to release one title of every year and that they probably don't have full creative control over (like, because of pressure from shareholders or whatever). With the pressure to release a new Pokemon title every year, I think they just don't have the time to make Pokemon games as great as they could possibly be.
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!

Eh, I'm not particularly hyped. As expected, it's just more of the same again. This looks so much like "Sun and Moon in slightly prettier" that I barely even want to play these games.

While it does look like more of the same, I'm still hyped, as there's never been a mainline Pokémon game I haven't enjoyed. I do like the look of this region.

As for the starters, I've found whenever they're revealed they always take some getting used to because they like strange and new. I think I'd choose the bunny just based on looks.

So, Aegislash, but in the form of two games. #smrpg{sick} I can tell that the franchise is trying to think out of the box with naming their games.

Anyways, ah... ♪ Generation 8 Pokémon games are revealed finally. It's still a bit early to say it'll be a good game. Not a whole lot was shown, but they reveled the region, the setting, and the starters.

Speaking of which... I'm probably going with
Scorbunny.

I like how some of it is very victorian and steampunk. Few random things I noticed myself:

map is ofc Britain but upside down, with London at the top/"south" Wales is completely gone lol

This hill painting is also a nice little reference to this

Out of the starters, I like the grass one most again, and although graphically it's not amazing, I'm glad the cell shaded style is back since I didn't really like how Go/LGPE looked
You know what? Not too shabby. They look like enjoyable games which after the PLG disaster, was all I truly needed. The whole 'new models' thing, while obviously high on my priority list, maybe can rest a little easier now. I'm looking forward to these. Not to mention all new things that have yet to be revealed, you know...
Scorbunny best starter. I'm loving the aesthetic of this new region-!
I like the design and concept for the region but that's about it.
I'll have to wait and see what else they have to show down the pipeline.

:(
So apparently the new region is based on Great Britain, though it looks upside-down to me (if anything it actually seems to be vertically mirrored, look at the two inlets near "London") and without Scotland (Remember that Scotland is basically fighting for independence right now), I wonder if those two islands represent Wight and Anglesey...

EDIT: Might as well post my completely random (for 3) guesses for the Elite 4:
Dark
,
Steel
,
Fire
,
Poison

EDIT2: Let's guess the gyms:
Normal
,
Grass
,
Electric
,
Ghost
,
Water
,
Fairy
,
Ice
,
Psychic

EDIT3: No replies? Well, according to a Youtube comment
Sobble could evolve into a banshee, so it might be a ghost type
. My sister said
Scorbunny looks like it has a bandaid so it's a fighting type, either a kickboxer or basketballer
. Logically this means Grookey
would be dark

Disappointed to see that they're still going to use random encounters, honestly.
Y'all trainers out there, here's the reveal trailer for this upcoming game!

Also, if you miss the Pokémon Direct that aired last Wednesday, you can watch the replay here:

Also, since the upcoming game's world is based on United Kingdom, some Scots think how the game looks like. Read it and weep!

Fun fact! The first Scorbunny Rule 34 was drawn only 16 minutes after the Direct.

don't

I like Sobble most I think. It's cute and i'd like to see what happens with their timid personality trait.

Scorbunny is cool for the non-questionable fanart that has arrived on the scene already, depicting them as a cute badass (now where have I heard that before?).

Grooky... got nothing to say about them. I really have no clue if I find them decent or slightly lacklustre.
Grookey is my favorite starter, I find it so cute and think it has good potential to be amazing in it's final evolution. Sobble I like, it's ok but I don't have too strong feelings towards it. Scorbunny I honestly don't care about at all.

The region has grown on me to some extent but I'm slightly worried that it'll be a super linear region. Of course this isn't downright confirmed yet but the layout of the towns and cities has me scared for what the adventure will be like.

Very curious on the gyms, from the map and the brief segment of the protag running towards the grass gym to the segment of the protag in a soccer get-up. Seems that they're connected..
Cautiously optimistic.

I wish we'd get a few new Megas as well as a dozen or two dozen new regional different Pokemon but I'm not expecting it.
Layout by RanAS, modified by yours truly.

I would actually not be surprised if the legendaries has stats respective to what version they're in. Like the sword legendary is offensive and the shield legendary is defensive. Can't wait to see the legendaries themselves when they get revealed. I'd like to know what the box art' for these games will look like.

The starters look cool. I'm a bit unsure on whether I'll end up playing this straight away after my dissapointment with (Ultra) Sun/Moon, they felt too different to what I was used to. I never even finished Ultra Sun as I got bored. However, it seems as if they've gone back to a more traditional gameplay (with gyms etc) so who knows.

Besides, the region being based off the UK - would seem rude not to play a game based on my home!
