News: File Bin
I just wanted to toss out a friendly reminder to old and new users alike that the File Bin (located in the side Menu, under the "Forums" option) is always available for use. Remember, it allows much faster uploading and downloading (i.e. these are direct links, as opposed to sites such as Rapidshare). You are welcome to upload as many files as you want, whether they are screenshots of your hack, SPCs, etc. to post on the site. Of course, you are not allowed to post ROMs, porn, etc. there. Same guidelines as posting links on the site, really.

Thanks. I hope to see some more use out of it.

Also, any questions about the site's recent downtime can be posted read about here.

By the way, stop pointing out the SMWiki is down! We know that it's not up anymore, and if you actually looked at the SMWiki backup thread you'd see this link.

Also, the Pittsburgh Penguins won the Stanley Cup! YES!

It's a real shame all that has to go to waste.

I think I may start up a Wiki of my own for all my technical findings and such. That way I'll have some control over my submissions. Of course maintaining a Wiki by myself is going to be an issue.

Anyway, I never use it because I mostly upload images. But with the file bin, the [ IMG] code doesn't work...
Yes it does. <_<

It works depending on whether your browser uses MIME sniffing or not. If all your browser does is check the file extension (PNG, JPG, etc...), it will fail to show the image. Use a good image hosting service that uses dynamic generation if you want to support all browsers. That is, all browsers that display images. Text browsers like Lynx won't display images no matter what you do (except using aalib or the like to display the image as ascii art).

I hate to nag like this but it would really be a shame if all that useful information just bit the dust forever.

They won it last year by defeating Pittsburgh. Surely they can live with second place.

I hate to watch hockey on TV, but I always really liked to see the Pens punch people's faces in, good fighters! Congrats for the cup.

there are sites with ROMs. But i'll not say what are those sites because is illegal.
And, yes, i'm happy with this new, i'm sick of those "wiki down" threads.

Comment: GoldenSonic15
If ROMs were never posted on any site, we wouldn't be able to play these awesome hacks!
Posted by: GoldenSonic15 -
Comment: Blumiere
Ultimaximus, the distribution of ROMs is legal AND illegal. Mostly illegal, though in some countries it is legal to create backup copies of the game they own, thus a ROM is born. Basically, we just download off the websites they host copies of the ROM file, which is illegal.

It says this in the FAQ as well:
"ROM Hacking itself is not illegal, however, downloading the ROM files required for hacking is illegal."

plow, they are breaking the law, but there is little that can be done to stop them. Sometimes, a game company threatens to sue, which may cause a site to be taken down.

I never used it because I was too scared that it would be cluttered! Wow, what a relief. Now I'm not that scared anymore! Who wants some rom-*shot*

But really, don't post roms. On ANY site. But I wonder, how come there are rom sites? Wont they get taken off? How is it allowed?

Huh, I was trying to avoid using the File Bin because I thought it would get too cluttered, and I didn't know if some of my stuff was related enough to SMW Central to put in there.

You'll find all my past Hacker for Hire level files in the file bin, but don't use them! They were private levels created by request. If I made a level to be freely given out, I'd say so.

@Bubblun: Yes, just press the (D) button to the right of your file.

I have one question about the file bin: Can you remove files (pictures, ips, music) from it if you uploaded it?

It's great for hosting layout files too.
Posted by: HyperHacker -
Comment: Jorshamo
I use it for just about everything.

Also, Kernigh, the Image code is easy to understand. Just type
(img)Picture URL here(/img)

It's really quite simple.

Ah, good.
I've been wondering about the file bin.

This clears up the questions I had about it, so I will be using it more from now on. :P

I like to put screenshots in my TinyPic space instead of the File Bin, because TinyPic can make the "img" code to post in forum. Today I have 125 things in TinyPic and 4 things in File Bin.

I almost always use the File Bin to upload my files. I mostly just use it for my pictures and SPC files, but once I also uploaded a random IPS patch that I don't even have any use for anymore.
