Getting a laptop instead of getting my desktop back... and all I'll be able to do is research... and maybe facebook, but facebook is retarded... I've been craving touhou for over a month...
Not sure where to post this but I came across this interesting glitch while playing an SMW hack today. I had the Cape on and did a spin jump into the ? Block while jumping into a Swooper at the same time and I ended up cloning power-ups. You can either get 2 Mushrooms or if you do it with the correct timing, 2 Fire Flowers or Capes depending on the Block you hit. Here's a video:

Heh. It might be closer to "OCD" than "studious", but I just wish more people cared about this kind of thing. It's nice to see someone noticing my efforts. I've gotten all but no help in figuring out any of them, and I've had enough ROM and RAM address submissions removed because of the descriptions being too vague. The way I see it, at least for RAM addresses, even submitting an address with the description "does stuff" is better than not having it there at all, because if you can prove that it "does stuff", then you at least know that it's not unused.

I've certainly seen worse names for things than "Teresa"...ever play Mega Man (or even Yoshi's Island, for that matter)? Okay, I think I've managed to place $0F72-$0FBD, but that still leaves a lot of mystery RAM addresses...including $144A and its ilk. All I can figure out about them is that they have something to do with scroll sprites. $1427-$1432 are a similar case; at least some of them are very clearly related to $142A, but how?
By the way, if any RAM map moderators are reading this, you should probably change the descriptions of $0E85 and $0F5E to say that they are unused tables instead of merely empty RAM.

I'm guessing, for one thing, that [unspecified] means unused RAM of some kind or other. "Universal table" most likely means "miscellaneous table", and perhaps $0EC5 and $0ED5 are the accumulating fraction bits for overworld sprite speed? No doubt "kurasutasupuraito" means "cluster sprite"...of course, the descriptions can't all be accurate. I know for a fact that $1BA1, probably $0DDF, and possibly $1BA2 are used.

The sad thing is he said he wants it to be successfully published and well known. The first screenshot is enough to get it removed. So, it'll be successfully rejected and obscurely known.
I think if you're going to post a hack, you should at least played like 5-10 fatured hacks. By doing that, you'll get a higher standard to your effort in your own hack. Also, people seem to put alot of custom stuff into their hack just for the sake of it, without knowing how to execute it well. It takes time to plan out balance and level design, you can't deny that.
Also, why don't people remove sprites when its crystal clear slowdown in an area?
That's what I'm trying to say. If these stupid noobs would just take their time and work on it, (with honest to God EFFORT) then maybe their hacks would be tolerable, or even decent.
I don't get why people submit crap here. It's not even good. It's not fun, either. It's frustrating and annoying. I mean come on. HOW HARD IS IT TO MAKE A GOOD HACK? I know that I used to be like that in the days of Jared World is Super, but I put effort into it and didn't use cheap tricks like floating munchers.
Mario the Adventurer is a particularly funny hack. Out of the 20 screenshots provided, there were five screenshots that didn't have hideous palettes, cutoff, floating/stacked Munchers, blatant level edits, or any combination of those four, and weren't screenshots of the final boss. Five.
Considering the creator thought it was his best hack yet, I'd hate to see what his others were like.
Does Lunar Magic store the graphics in the same place as the original SMW did (banks 08-0B)? Aren't they supposed to be stored as 4bpp, though? What happens if they end up requiring more than 4 banks?
Computer problem:Starting today now programs are taking longer and longer to open, especially Digsby or Firefox. What is happening??? I Seriously think I have a virus or something. Now to run a full Symantec Endpoint Scan. *sigh*

I don't watch any shows that have annoying teenage girls in them. Nickelodeon is complete shit now! The only thing I watch that is from Nick is SpongeBob Squarepants. I don't even need Nickelodeon to see SpongeBob since ITV show it anyway. In fact I don't even watch Cartoon Network or any other kids TV channels anymore because they ALL SUCK! I hate the new stuff. I prefer classic shows like Dexter's Laboratory.

Well, since I can't post in the unsure ROM/RAM thread in SMW Data Repository, I'll post it here.
I'm investigating and pondering a couple of RAM addresses. $1408 and $1409 both seem to have something to do with cape flight, $140E is apparently related to $1442, and I can't figure out much about $1400, $1405, or $1406. $14A7 is apparently used in the Reznor battle, I can't figure out anything about $14A2-$14A4, and $14A8-$14AA look like timers of some sort. $14A8-$14AE are actually all checked and decremented together at $00C55C, but beyond that, I don't know what they do. Also, does anyone have any idea what $14B0-$14C7 are for? $14C4 and $14C7 don't seem to be used at all, but the rest look almost like scratch RAM for a couple of sprites, like the swinging platform and Lakitu cloud.

Thanks guys. I just go through times when everything catches up on me. I'm not emo or anything. My mom however is depressed at our bad news streak. Strangely, when I started feeling that way, I got a spiritually encouraging message from someone I don't even know on Facebook... So trust me guys I haven't given up on life. Also, Flipnote Hatena's really my substitute for internet chatting, though I'm trying to learn to draw better. I might attempt to learn the piano. If I got a job, I could buy my own bow. I knkw enough computer basics that if I were to go get a help book I could learn computing, which could lead to a good-paying job. I could walk to nearby places to get out of the house unless I'm working, which IDK how I'd get transportation for. If I could carpool to school, it could save us money and I could still go to archery. So my life isn't bad and I can sometimes tolerate my environment. (Sorry every post I make is a wall...)
Edit: I found out it was the maker of a group I had joined sent it. But coincidently my phone notified me of it at the right time.

About six months ago, I was feeling a little down, so I went on Facebook and searched for an old friend I hadn't talked to in years--since we graduated from high school. This old friend, I was warned, never went on Facebook, but he added me as a friend the very next day. We tried to write to each other, but he was always busy, and we hardly ever talked. About a week ago, I tried writing him again, and he wrote back; in his message to me, he told me that I was, and always would be, one of his closest friends, no matter how long we went without speaking to each other. It sounds a little sappy, but this person doesn't make friends easily, so his words are worth a lot to me.
You see what happened? I threw something out there, expecting nothing, and I got more than I gave.
You always have to give a little--it's a fact of life. Everything you do impacts something else, as is the nature of causality. When you judge, you are judged. When you hurt, you will be hurt. And when you give, you will receive.

It might look like there are a lot of hacks to be moderated, but half of them are instant-removals. Peruse the waiting to be moderated list and you will find a couple of nice-looking hacks, a graphics base that could have potential (if it isn't stolen), and a bunch of hacks with Floating Munchers in the provided screenshots.
Also, I wonder if that Sonic Graphics Base hack was stolen. Its description and ReadMe seem to skirt the issue. If it is stolen, I will be quite sad because a Sonic base would be well received around here.

EDIT: well it says the ID expired, meaning the ban has been removed. (Been that way since yesterday.) Try deleting your cookies, see if that helps. I bet it's still got cookies in there for your being banned.

When I read the comments here, the first thing I think of is a group of people trapped in an elevator. For the first little while, everyone is more-or-less polite, but as time wears on, people's true personalities come oozing out in all their glory. Eventually, people start arguing over the most pointless and petty things...and all the while they wait for someone to fix the elevator so they can all go on their way.
Well, that's just my two cents.

Well, I have a question: Can anyone help me with Camtasia? When I try to record something, the video comes in fine, and if I'm recording an emulator, the sound from the game comes in all right as well, but my voice always sounds like barely a whisper. I've tried every volume control I can find in Camtasia, on my computer, and on my microphone, but nothing works; if any of them make my voice slightly louder (about 15, maybe even 18 decibels), they also make the other sound (in this case, video game music) louder.
I'm going to be on vacation for the next week or so, so my internet access will be rather sketchy. Not that that's a bad thing or anything. Just letting everyone know that I won't have fallen off the face of the earth if I'm a no-show for a couple of days.
On the subject of crying, it's obvious I cried throughout Clannad. On the topic of Pokemon, people are always skeptical of new pokemon till they play the game. I remember when gen4 looked retarded to me, and even when gen3 looked kinda strange. Also, why are people bit*ching about the 3DS. Yes I know it's another upgrade, but look at what they're giving you! You've got 3D, graphics almost good enough to rival PSP, and new controls like the slide pad, motion sensor, and gyroscope. The upgrade from Lite-i-3D is at least worthwile, and as for price, they'll probably knock off 60-100$ from the price if you exchange a Lite/i.
Re: the new Pokemon being the only new Pokemon until National Dex: I don't have a problem with it, personally, though I'm extremely surprised that not even Pikachu will be found in the wild until National Dex. Why would they boot out their own mascot? It's like making a Kirby game where the only similarities to the Kirby series is that the main character is an adorable blob, the setting is a planet named "[something] Star", and you can copy enemies' abilities. Oh, and you can unlock Kirby as a playable character after 100% completion. It makes no sense!
Also, Marioman, I can tell you're only angry because they're not Generation I/II/II/IV Pokemon. Maybe if some of them had been there since Red and Green, you could've at least thought they were OK. But nope, the Isshu Pokedex is made up entirely of new Pokemon, so every single trait they have that makes them not Zubat or Wurmple or Pidgey or Pikachu completely infuriates you.
Less than two weeks before I begin college on August 18th. I'm getting nervous already, even though I'm already completely prepared for starting college, and I'm also worried that all my free time will be taken up.
What's even crazier is that grade schools over here are starting even earlier: August 11th. Seriously, what happened to starting within two weeks of Labor Day?
...I don't like the sounds of that. Also the Pokemons. They look so horrible. And to be honest, the second one on the left seems to be the most ugliest thing I have ever seen. Including the first one on the right.
School starts the 23rd for me. I'm glad cuz I'm tired of making a hotpocket, ham sandwich, or toaster grilled cheese every day... And I would like something to do during the day, since sometimes I'm too lazy to draw or write. Once I get my computer back I'll try RPGmaker as a substitute to hacking. *Crosses fingers* hope my mom let's me on youtube after punishment is over. Also, random: Skyward Sword comes before OoT in the Zelda timeline, because the Master Sword is created in SS.

Me? As a writer? Well... I do have good ability to take a small idea and turn it into a full-fledged fantasy scenario. Remember my post back in another one of the news things? Being able to instantly think of a general plot for something still doesn't make me a writer, though I've written a script for an SSBB machinima I never made, and I'll be making a KH fanfic and an original series on Flipnote Hatena. Sometimes I seem like a bit of a Red Mage and don't notice it... (jack-of-all trades, never masters anything) I was really surprised at my drawing ability. Without my computer I started drawing in Flipnote Studio and I'm not half bad. I might even make my Hatena icon my SMWC one.
Well, I write as a hobby. I could never imagine myself being a writer. I could never think of all the prestigious ones taking me in and welcoming me as one of their own. Although I do think I have that kind of ability to do so, I do not wish to use it, if I even have it. My uniqueness is that I could write all hours of the day, even when I'm tired. In fact, I think I write better when I feel sleepy, but then, of course, I'd fall asleep. Not much good, but I feel this is a high risk, high reward situation. It's also a good thing right when I get up from a dream, and can write with inspiration from that dream. It's even better when you have a really weird dream (such as one I had last night) or a "medley" of dreams (such as one I also had last night.) Sometimes what I do is lucid dream. Lucid dreaming is a way to help you have more control over your dream. For example, if you are having a nightmare, and if you're lucid dreaming, you can just get out of it. Also, if you're having a really cool dream, you can remember it more vividly if you lucid dream. I do this a lot, because being here influences my dreams a lot for some reason (and so does "Whose Line Is It Anyway?", but that's for another day).
This is what I have to say for myself, but ONLY for myself. I am sure a lot of the other literate writers on SMWC could go more into their self-coveted lives of writing for you. That is all.
I'm sure that this question was asked a few months ago, but how many writers are there on SMWC? I've read quite a few eloquent and witty posts here, and I'm curious if anyone out there writes. If you do, do you do it just as a hobby, or do you write in the hopes of your work being published?

Reading minds is invasion of privacy, and you find out things you don't want to, such as how everyone hates you. Flying is unnecessary for travelling if you can just freeze time, and I don't need to know every single freakish thing on the internet.
And in itself, freezing time is good enough, being able to take all the time in the world for transportation, messing with people, is quite convenient at times, and can be used for perverted intents, even if it quite an invasion.
Also if everyone is talking about how they block ads, then the advertisers won't bother buying ad space. Also, Google ads pay per view, and also per click.

The people paying for the ads are getting Kieran money, not us looking at them. Nobody likes ads, there's nothing wrong with blocking them (Especially the bizarre ones we get on this site).

I am amazing when it comes to designing an overworld, and I can apply and customize patches no problem. Age has NOTHING to do with hacking skills. I'm not the BEST hacker, but I'm still pretty good. And I'm sure my hacking skills are better than someone that's older than me.

I'm 24, but I find a lot of younger users are quite intelligent and talented. One younger user that comes to mind is Adam, whose hack is quite impressive and polished. Everyone's different.
In other news, hack moderation sounds sort of fun.
I could never be a hack mod. Too much work. Tons of hacks are submitted to this site everyday, and playing through the entirety of each one trying to spot errors would take way too much of my free time.

@Kellykel, About your assumption. I still consider myself a child, and I don't think it's a good idea to base skill on age. In fact, age has nothing to do with it at all. There are probably people out there far younger than me that are worlds ahead of me in ASM. As for myself, despite being a "kid", not only can I patch a rom, and own a SNES quite a few games and an actual copy of Super Mario World (by the way, owning the cart still doesn't make having the rom legal), but in fact, I have a featured hack on the site, and not only that, I know a fair bit of ASM and am a moderate spriter. So yeah, age has nothing to do with ability, everyone is different.

I'm 12 years old and I can patch ROMs and create SMW hacks. I can also hack SMK, kirby, pokemon, and sim city. Let's not forget some NES games either.

To find the secret exit, go ahead until you find some turn blocks. Spin jump on them (only if you are big/fire/cape Mario), go down, spin jump again and hit the second-last block, that has a P-Switch. Grab it, continue going and hit it when you see more turn blocks. Then, spin jump, go left and enter the blue door (ignore the silver P-Switch). There is a question block with the key. Continue normally until you reach the room wit the midway point. Go right and there's the keyhole.
Raocow is almost done with the vanilla contest. Next year, I'm going to remake Mario in Iggy Land and submit it so Raocow can laugh at the plot. I always wanted to see his reaction.
Fakezor is gone, same with all the images he posted. At first I thought he only posted in Hack Showoff, but it looks like this individual decided to clutter up all the news posts.
Keep in mind that while it may have been a spambot, if it wasn't, they were likely doing it to get a reaction. It's better to PM or query a staff member online when something like this happens instead of making the clutter in the news worse.

I'm hesitant to say that Millionaire has jumped the shark, but I will say that it was better with Regis Philbin hosting it. It hasn't really gotten any worse at all. It's the same game.
Just been checking out the new "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" and it is shit! They went to a break after 6 minutes, I mean that's just stupid. I thought the addition of a clock would make it more interesting but about 90% of the show is Chris Tarrant talking and it's boring me.

Indeed, the Ghost is my favorite so far as well. The Mew one seemed a little over the top, but the Ghost could be plausible at best. It's certainly is interesting.

Yeah, the GHOST one is probably my favorite out of the ones I've read. It isn't incredibly stupid, random, or violent, and it would make for a really interesting game.
Creepypasta isn't really that creepy, because they are almost always fake. Though, the GHOST one you posted seems the most likely to be true of all the ones I've read, if only because its not as outrageous as others (like in a SM64 one I once read. There was a "picture of the player's family". Yeah, right).

The first Pokemon creepypasta that got linked to was really more heartwarming, if anything. The second one, though... it did its job. Most Pokemon CPs involve Lavender Town and its music, and it's not hard to see why.
I saw one Pokemon GSC creepypasta somewhere, although the abnormal behavior of the game was really just a framing device for a theory that your player character died shortly after defeated Red. Of course, it used the Unown radio signal and used Unown to spell out vaguely threatening messages such as "HEDIED" and "IMDEAD", so it still worked. There's also a Super Mario 64 creepypasta, and... well, it made me lose sleep, that's all I'm saying.
Heartwarming? The Mew one I posted in the other news section? That was the first I posted, and I can't see that as heartwarming, but I can't see either as heartwarming. Lavender Town has the strangest music, really... chilling.
I don't want to see the Mario one, but that pokemon one I'll have to look up now.

Plants vs. Zombies is pretty awesome. I need some motivation to actually raise the $70,000 I need to get the rest of the items, and with them achievements, to finish it though.
