Yes, It is a beach.For more grafics, please do check out the ips.

Looks good,Especially the level desing.
One thing thought, the overworld is very good, but some slopes would look good.
Is this meant to be a vanilla hack?If not, try to add some custom grafics.

As I said before, I used 5 yellow-red tones for the palette(last 5 colors),and for animation ,use the 8x8 tiles from left to right.

By first hack you mean first hack to upload/talk about?I mean, we all start by ading powerups to level 105 and overload a level or two on sprite, and after some time start to make level desing(unless you have been gifted by god *sarcasm*)

Well, the elite koopas are great,the first part looks very good apart for the part wich you can get traped with the red koopas.The incinerator level need priority, as mentioed by SL bros.
As for dificulty, in smwcp1, I used savestates every second to pass(thats how much I suck), and in this level, I only neede them like5 times, wich means it is not to hard, wich is good and fun.
Cant wait to see the incinerator!
Also, if you need more fire related grafics, let me know.
Edit: on SLbros first screen shot, on the T shaped pipe,at the top right at the midle, It hasnt got shading, while the second screen shot, that pipe has shading there.

Here's a sugestion for the overworld palette, to make it look dark and evil, reduce the brightness of most colors, and maybe add some red.That usually makes things look dark and evil.Also, how about you put the shipreck somewhere on the map?
