I have 2 questions, will you be on the IRC again, and will you do rom hacking?
Can God cook a pizza so hot, he couldn't eat it, and still be God? The answer is a trick question: God can do anything except sin, because God is perfect. And as we all know, sin includes adultry and similar acts of lust-- meaning God could NOT cook a pornographic-looking "hot" pizza, but by (not) doing so, He would still be the very definition of God.
Which brings me to your question: I told SMWC I would never hack again. Which means I'll probably hack again. :3
But you all need to keep in mind that every time I get a PM nagging me about hacking, God gives AIDS to some cute girl in Japan. Think about what you're doing to them.
It is good to see you again and in a better condition! Also, I self-apointed myself greeter and yet I forgot to post here.
Fast-food cooks can't tell when a human finger is in their chili, Wal-Mart greeters don't speak English, teachers watch half their class drop out of high school and don't lift a finger for it, the policemen enforcing our laws can't stand black people whether they're decent citizens or not, and Christians hardly understand the Bible. ...I really don't think you have much to worry about, bud. Thanks for the welcome!
Plus, you seem much more open minded and friendly than most people who are given knowledge like yours, which automatically gets you that friendship and popularity many people on SMWCentral probably want. Just like SNN is known for being funny, witty but friendly at the same time, you're known for being smart (in our eyes at least) and social, which are two good characteristics in a person and something I'd look for when wanting to befriend someone.
I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. @[email protected] I mean I guess I respect and accept your perspective, but... social? Me, back then? I believe I recall going off on people every day when I felt their questions were stupid. (Well a lot of people did/do that but it doesn't make it right, let alone good social skills.)
Ah well, I'll take your word for it. I don't see it though. :s Thanks for the words. ^^
Also you should try testing patches on a clean rom before you ever let it touch your hack.
Oh right. Maybe they fixed this by now, but Back In The Day there were a number of patches in the database that only served to corrupt the Rom and didn't work at all. x_x
(Here's one trick that always works: hold down A, B, and the Down Arrow while making an IPS patch, to reduce the chance of the IPS becoming corrupted when you make it. IT WORKS, HONEST. *headshot* XPP)
After more work, I've finished my hack's main Overworld. I hope you guys like it, and criticism is welcome.

I have to say this is one of the most EPIC WIN overworlds I have ever seen (and yes I'm giving it bonus points for staying Vanilla... it IS Vanilla, isn't it? I can't see any spots that aren't ^_^) in an extremely long time. Seriously, fuck! The entire map is incredibly detailed, and the detail is distributed perfectly over the entire map, so your eyes aren't drawn to one major area of the map... That alone is total awesome, since it's certainly not easy to do for the average overworld maker (as in it takes quite a bit of effort and practice 8D I was never any good at this)... The Paths that are visible are IMMENSELY creative, the way they're shaped and such, which, again, really speaks to me. Furthermore you have a palette scheme that makes the map look ABSOLUTELY BRAND NEW, and yet, it's still Vanilla? PERFECT. That is perfect. It's what every person who ever shoots for Vanilla should be trying to go for. That, and you have your palette set up to accommadate those large 8x3 trees, which, believe in me, take quite some hassle to get to look right without screwing or limiting other aspects of your tile array. (Not sure how great the sparkles look in-game, but kudos yet again for not being afraid to be different and add them anyway; they're typically only used in cave maps 'cause of the palette weirdness.)
In short, you have impressed me on very much every account. Epic win, brother, epic win.
Extra comment: I have no idea what your hack is like, but judging from this shot here, I'm gonna go on a limb and assume you're going for a Luigi's Mansion sort of angle. ;3 That's the impression I get. Hopefully it's what you hope for when new people observe your WIP.
No savestates, no tools to assist me, nothing but pure old-fashioned skill (and frustration, and adrenaline XDD). I did not die a single time; it's one straight run from start to finish in over 2 hours of consecutive gaming (yes, 2 hours, as this is not a speedrun).
Aside from not dying... well, see for yourself what else is "special" about this playthrough. I imployed some tricks and highly unconventional styles of play that you don't often see. ;3 But then again, I AM Schwa, you know. Unconventionality incarnate.
Hope you like what you see. Feel free to say anything you'd like regarding this playthrough! The other three parts will be up in time (it's all recorded already; for me it's just a matter of converting from .AVI to .WMV and uploading it to DailyMotion).
Edit - Aww, gone all day and not a single post reply when I get back? Feh. I guess you'd all rather see Mario.
(Fun fact: the bushes and clouds actually use the same tiles. Consider it both a way to save VRAM space and a clever throwback to SMB1.)
Oh my God that IS clever. XDD So then can I ask a second question? ("No, you all only get ONE QUESTION EVER!" *shot*) For this hack, are you aiming for a more classic-style approach on the gameplay (as in, not gimmicky, but more traditional platforming quality)?
My two cents on that is that a classic-style with notable ASM is very possible, yet very hard-pressed to get that beautiful, just-right balance. It would be awesome to see something like that, considering how popular SMO still is, and how many fans you're bound to have supporting your triumphant return (good luck, by the way; I know the pain that comes with being a popular face here, and you have my earnest and brotherly support in such an inevitable endeavor X_x). ^.^

Eww, stop it, I'm not out to steal anyone's thunder. Besides, BMF has been at this even longer than I have. I think he deserves a little more respect than that.
($7E:0D82) (2 bytes) Pointer to Mario/Luigi palette. B2C8=Mario B2DC=Luigi, B2F0=Fire Mario, B304=Fire Luigi
This looks too good to be true. Is this telling me I can change Mario's Palette on the fly simply by messing with this 16-bit RAM variable??
And if so, would this mean it's not just limited to the four usual Palettes, and I can theoretically use any spot in the same Bank to take a set of colors from? (I checked which Bank, by the way; it seems to be Bank 0.)
Because, like, that would make my whole week. You do know that, right? It really would.
SWR is and always will be a legend, in my eyes. After spending thirty minutes reading the past six pages, I'm almost shaking at how incredible this is, and how much work he's putting into it. By himself.
Which makes me think... Is there any way any of us can help you out other than just watching in awe? A one-man-army's pretty epic but it's a gigantic responsibility, too, especially when you're taking it on willingly just because you're nice. Have you thought about getting a wingman to help you code the program? Or will other people just get in the way 'cause you code things a certain way? ('Cause I know what that's like, trust me.)
No matter what, though, I think this is awesome, and SWR, I think you're AMAZING, not just as a hacker but as a person driven by sheer curiosity on this planet. We ought to have more people like that.
And whether it's MushROMs or Tetris, I support you 150%! :') Go the distance. We'll wait and watch with love.
