I'm trying to use this song. It inserts successfully and doesn't break the SPC700, but it comes out sounding TERRIBLE for some reason. The bass gets de-tuned, you can't hear the timpani, and there are pitch bends that were NOWHERE in the SPC. I'm using HuFlungDu's AddMusic.

Here's how it sounds for me.

Can anyone figure out what's wrong with it?

It didn't help. There's NO change in the way the song plays in-game other than a brief pause before it starts. I don't know how mariomaniac444 got that SPC, but it's very misleading.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 - Oil Ocean Zone

Took me about an hour to port. Comments are welcome.

Awesome job, Nameless. It's nice to hear a good Sonic port, and OOZ is a song I've wanted to hear ported for a while.

From 0:00 to 0:07. the piano on #2 is so low that it seems to clash with the bass. I don't know if it's possible to raise the octave on just that section without messing the song up. If it isn't, I recommend switching to steel drums, though that would make your port sound more like mine.

I'm surprised I got a trophy. I wasn't expecting it. That release of my hack wasn't as polished as it could've been.

I agree with everyone who says savestating is useful for hack testing. If I've edited a sublevel, particularly in a later level, it's more convenient to have Mario stand near the exit to that sublevel, make a savestate, test the sublevel, make any needed adjustments, then test said adjustments by loading the savestate.

...raise the octave on just that section...

You mean like this?

The bass seems to clash with the piano in places. Maybe you should lower it an octave and change it to @8.

That Endless Mine port still needs some work, KK. There are several wrong notes in the beginning, and @14 would probably sound better as a bass. The drums also need to be stronger. I can barely hear them, and Sonic music tends to have strong percussion.

No, I wasn't, but that channel does need work since some of the notes are wrong. You don't need to change instruments though.

I thought the problem was only with Cave Drums. I'm assuming it may happen with the water level music too since I believe that uses an echo. My hack uses vanilla music for one submap, haunted areas, boss battles, a level in Pipe City, Gaddly's Hut, and all but the last castle. It got accepted, but I just finished doing another revision. I was never able to test in BSNES because my computer is too dated to run it, but the vanilla music I used didn't break in SNES9X 1.53, which is, I believe, the second most accurate emulator.

It's this set, which I submitted under my old ID before the 2007 Great Wipe.

I'm currently chatting with my boyfriend over WLM. I wanted to link him to the SPC700 Player so he could listen to my custom music. When I attempted to IM him the link, I received the typical error message one gets when a message fails to send. I tried again, only to get the same error. I was beginning to suspect that WLM was actually BLOCKING the message. I tried posting another random SMWC link, which pretty much confirms my suspicion. My best guess as to why it's being blocked is because it's about "hacking."

I haven't ported or composed anything in almost 2 months. My hard drive crashed, and I lost many songs before I ever got around to submitting them. I did get another computer, but it's a rather messed-up hand-me-down that refuses to run Anvil Studio and MML Editing Tool. I decided to try typing out an original composition in text since I can't port by ear like certain other members.

This is it. I may add more to it before I submit it.

I grouped my credits into Levels, ExGFX, ASM, Sprites, Music, Tools, and Testers when I set up my credits level. I just listed the names of the contributors rather than giving credit for each contribution. It just looks better that way IMO.

I remember seeing a YouTube video for a Kaizo SMB1 hack called "Mario Frustration." I don't know where you can find a ROM/IPS though.

Remember my port of Flame Mammoth from MMX1? (Of course not, unless you downloaded it). Well, I realized that the drums was a little off, so I decided to fix it:

Old port
New port

I'll submit it if the old one doesn't pass moderation.

Edit: Comments...?

I'm not sure if I've ever heard/seen you port before. If this is your first port, it's pretty good.
