From what I've seen so far, your hack looks really interesting. The levels look fun and actually have difficulty; which is good IMO because most of the hacks I played were too easy. Consider me a follower of this thread.
Eh I figured I'd might as well say something. Probably not to important but yeah.
I think about midpoints is pretty basic. To me, People can get away without having one if the level is normal length (According to the original super Mario world) even if the level is difficult.
Longer, and I don't mean a little longer, I mean "Longer" levels I think should have check points; at least one. It would be annoying if you were playing without save-states to get more then half way through a level and accidentally mess up and have to start over, especially if it was a gimmick type of long levels.
To sum it up I think most levels should at least have 1 midpoint, I'm not really for multiple. Honestly most hacks I played were easy and levels weren't long enough, to where even I can non save state it with flying colors. (And I'm not that good at Mario games) but yeah that's just what I think.
Well managed to finish another one. I've been totally miserable this week due to personal reasons (I'd rather not say) so all I've been able to due is sleep and hack.
I've been working on this level for like the whole day. It wasn't designing the level that was the problem. Since the level theme is not the 4 seasons but the 3 times of day, you could probably guess what you have to do. I know, not the most original idea but I like these kind of levels so I had to make one.
Anyways back to what I was saying. Working with 2 way pipes are a pain. I spent several hours on that alone while multitasking, in result, it took forever. (No Joke) Yeah note to self, just make a one way pipe instead.
Anyways I hope you like it. I put just as much effort as I do in my other levels.
Well I watched it again (Second Level); and I've come to realize it actually really isn't that bad. I usually ignore commenting about cut offs, so I'll say the only problem is the level seems a little disorganized at times; just a little though.
My frustration is off the charts right now. Don't know why random problems keep occurring to me. Please watch. I have trouble explaining things so sometimes It's easier to show it through a quick video.
Hey guys (For those that care) I'm back. Hack work has been a little slow lately because Of life issues. I really hope to get my life in order and hope to actually start enjoying life again. Although this thread isn't popular I'm just happy enough people actually give it a look and leave feed back; it's one of the few things that give me something to live for at least. But anyways enough talking. Here's another level.
Copied From Youtube Description) Ah after a lot of effort. Here's another level. Theme of the level: Forest Ruins. I thought I did great as for as designing I just hoped I did good as far as excitement went. Anyways enjoy. Probably the last Mario hack upload for the week.
(Sorry you guys, code is broken, please watch it through link)
As usual, I put my full effort and creativity into it. I would love to stop using the default sprites in the game but I'm not sure how to insert custom sprites yet. Anyways feed back is greatly appreciated.
Either you updated this thread recently or I just missed the screen shots. Anyways a few things.
Screen Shot 1: I usually don't point cut off out but it kind of stands out here where the water level (2nd Level).
Screen Shot 2: The bridge looks a little weird, (I'm pretty sure you know what to do to fix it) Also In my opinion, I think bridges should be attached to something, cause they look a little weird floating in place. Just My opinion though
Screen Shot 3: The munchers stacked up on each other don't look right.
Hey there, so I was feeling generous enough to try it out. I finished most of the demo (Since I'm a speed runner). I'm not sure if you wanted me to post screen shots to the mistakes that needed to be fixed so I won't without your permission.
Bonzai Flats: It seemed like a slightly redone version of the original level 105, and the level seemed kind of dead. No enough sprites or coins.
Buzzy Bunker: Didn't really have a compliant for this level.
Mushroom Waters: I actually thought you did good on this level, despite the one of the platforms sprite glitch
Yoshi's Post: All though there's cut off at parts, I thought this was a pretty fun level and I like the background palette.
Shadow Forest: I actually didn't find many problems with this level Accept for bomb bomb that's looks like it's suppose to be used as a light. (Might want to fix that) and that tree at the end
Boo's Abode: Not really many complaints here accept there were a few boos that disappeared when they moved.
Koopa Plains: Not a bad level but I found quiet a bit of cut offs here. There was a problem with the Background too but I don't know how to explain it without screen shots.
That's as far as I got. I say over all it's a decent hack, pretty good for your first though. It needs work however. Fix the cut offs, try and spice up the levels and I'd use custom palettes, but that's just my opinion. I'll admit, it was somewhat better then I expected.
Oh..I guess both secrets I'm unsure to get then. However I did The water level. I didn't many problems, just mainly the background.
Well I'm not quiet sure what you mean for the bomb. If you mean you don't want the bomb to be there at all, just delete it.
But if you wanted the spot light to be there but not the bomb you have to set it set it to the correct GFX (Which is Ninji)
I don't want a light (or in this case, a bomb) but I want the darkness. Makes the level, i dunno, suit the theme?
Also *SPOILER* to get the secrets:
A) Boo's Abode: Go to the normal exit but hit the coin block above it and make a platform. then jump onto a ledge above that (should be the VERY top of the screen from the main exit door).
B) Koopa Plains: You need a cape (2 makes life easier). After the checkpoint, run, fly, and float to where the Green box outlines are. There should be a key. Take the key to a pit just ahead (just past the yellow boxes). Drop the key in it and run back and fly over the yellow boxes. There is a POW. Take it down to the pit with the key and activate it there (do not fear. you must activate it there or you CAN'T make it to the lock.)
Alrighty I shall do that soon. When i've tested the other level I edit this post with feedback.
As for having the darkness without the light I don't recall a way to do that unfortunately.
