This seems kinda silly. No matter what you're doing, I seriously doubt your problem isn't fixable. Even if you aren't willing to fix your sprite, you can simply forgo it and use something else.

Well, it was a major and needed one: the NPC 3.0 sprite. Considering it was a story-based hack, and I can't think of an alternative, I simply had to cancel it. I also requested that the hack thread be closed, I said that it worked in all versions of bsnes but accuracy, the usual getting hated on because it doesn't work in accuracy started, I appologized, and asked the thread to be closed.

Anyways < edit >3< /edit > more dumb questions.
1) Is it against the rules to submit a hack to your filebin if its not bsnes compatible?

2) Is it against the rules to make a WIP thread for said hack?

I'm considering making a hack and not worrying about bsnes, but only slightly. I'm leaning more towards quitting SMW Hacking all together, and just helping others with their hacks.

EDIT: 3) When is the next level design contest we're allowed to use chocolate stuff?
Eh, sure. Why not? Kaizo hacking doesn't seem too ha-aaaaaaand I broke the ROM.
Here's my old demo of Bowser's Time Machine: Link

I know, not the best hack, it was my first one, and I know for a fact that its not bsnes compatible.
EDIT: I started working on my hack again, but I probally can't get it done in 6 days (well, maybe, we'll see...) so if I don't get done, I still want BTM to be my entry.

Um... I just tested the NPC 3.0 sprite in bsnes accuracy mode and it worked just fine. I don't see why you would cancel it. Did you test it?

Yes, I did, the whole "decide message by palette" thing didn't work. It only displayed the intro message for all of them. Besides, I think I'm pretty much done with hacking for a while. Its not fun anymore when you have to test your hacks in a super slow and laggy emulator at 5 frames a second, only to realise that after 10+ minutes of your life have been wasted that something doesn't work. Then when you announce that something won't work in bsnes' accuracy mode, you get hated, and people assume that just because something is inaccurate, its not good. (By that logic Super Mario World itself isn't good, because whats accurate about an italian plumber killing tons of psycotic turtles to save a princess?) If I do keep hacking, it'll either be because the mods deside not to go through with the bsnes rule, or I head over to the other ROM hacking forum, and hack another game so I no longer have to deal with this bsnes crap.

Based on what I could tell from looking at the threads in the old contests and events forum, the next contest probably will be the chocolate contest, and it won't be held until late August or early September.

Can't really give a definitive answer though, as that was just an educated guess, and who knows when they'll surprise us with a random contest.

Okay, I wanted to know because I'm probally going to stay away from making full hacks for a while, especially story hacks. bsnes just loves to hate me...

Whoah, there, people.

Half the accepted hacks here don't work on bsnes. Hell, half of the featured hacks don't work on bsnes. An SMW Central Production doesn't work on bsnes!

At this point, yes, we are transitioning from less accurate to more accurate, but if you make a well-made hack that works fine on ZSNES but glitches in bsnes, I can't see why it won't get accepted so long as you indicate that it won't work in bsnes. Will this change? It might, but this is where things stand now.

As someone who plays hacks (and moderates them), I would rather play a hack with good level design and use of sprites/music/blocks/ASM than a bad hack that works on bsnes.

Now, I'm sure those who support bsnes are reading this and preparing their angry replies. Don't. I don't want this thread to be the next flashpoint for a tired debate.

Well, if you're sure that it will pass moderation, I'll continue the hack. BTW, it works with bsnes, just not the accuracy core. Thanks for giving me your opinion on this, maybe I just need to keep hacking and ignore the hard-core bsnes fans and how I get hated when its not compatible. I'm not saying any names, unless, of course, the hate comments get out of hand.

I must say, this hack is looking quite amazing! Almost feature hack material (if not up there...), keep at it! The only thing I can think of to improve would be to change the goomba bros graphics...oh wait...you said you were doing that...nevermind...the complaint count once again equals zero...

Okay, new update, a beta Background. I'm reusing one of the FG tiles with a darkened palette as the BG for right now, it may not look the best, but it looks much better than a blank black bg

Please leave comments, and keep them only about the hack, I don't want to hear any offtopicness, so control yourselves.

Well thanks, for some reason, the only thing I can do just fine with Vanilla is BG tiles. I should try using vanilla BGs more often...

Speaking of backgrounds, here's the real reason I came here, to show the beta background of my hack that I'm using until my request get fulfilled:

Is the BG color a bit to bright, it looks fine to me, and better during gameplay, I just want to know if the BG is a bit too...distracting.

DarkBones, here are some suggestions:

• The background just needs more stuff. Try drawing some more tiles for it. What about vines, rocks, trees?

Agreed, but its just the beta, I'm seeing if the BG I requested looks better, and if not, I'll save it for another hack and add more tiles to this one.

• Give your foreground objects a black outline.

They already have an outline, but ita a dark green outline. It you really think it would look better, however, I can easily change it to a black outline.

• Improve the lava palette a bit. It's really bright in my opinion.

Agreed. Fixing lava palette right now. Have a nice day.

EDIT:

Better yet?

Also, to me, the bridge looks really meh. And in what seems like a forest like setting, lava seems really out of place.

Heh, well its not a forest...and the lava is supposed to be...well...if you knew my hack's storyline, you'd know what its supposed to be...

Well, if it looks that bad, I guess I'll draw a new BG, the BG I requested doesn't look good with my main FG, so I'm using it in a bonus level or something...

Yeah, the bridge does kind of style clash...I wonder what to do about that...its hard to shade a circle (at least for me, really, graphics in general are hard for me, I got kind of lucky with most of these tiles...

You never fail to impress me yoshicookiezeus...

Also, I like the new attack for the blue koopa, its a lot more fitting. (Wait was it the blue or yellow shells that make yoshi stomp? I forget now...oh well, if it ain't broke, don't fix it...)

Can't wait to see your progress on this!

For once its not my fault then, that part was copy-pasted from the code-library, the only edit I made was the value where the "Change to alt GFX..." comment was made. I'll try doing what you said and hope it works!

EDIT: Nope, still crashes...

Really hate to bump this thread, but for some reason, the above fix still doesn't work.

i'm fairly certain you have to save at least 1 level with an exanimation in LM1.7+ did you remember to do this?

Yep, it was the very last thing I did before inserting the patch. I made an exanimation of animation tiles 500 and 501 (didn't care what I used as I didn't actually need Exanimation, and made the slot a BG2 slot. I made a Map16 tile where all the tiles were the Exanimation, inserted it to the level, saved the Map16 with F9, and saved the level normally. I don't get what I did wrong.

Yeah, sorry for the bump here...

The first Mario game I've ever played is SMB3.

I think all newer games of my favorite game franchises with the exception of Mario and Kirby have been ruined beyond repair.

I can't stand the newer Spyro or Sonic games.

I always play as Tails in Sonic 3.

I actually like SMB2, and I'm talking US version.

The first Mario game that I've ever owned (not played, owned) is Mario Party DS.

I think New Super Mario Brothers (DS) is super easy, I can beat the game in under 30 minutes. (Dead serious, and I can finish with nearly 99 lives as well...)

I think Kirby games are super awesome, (and super easy, but thats a different story), yet I don't own a single Kirby game as of yet. (But if I get one, its gonna be a GBA one or Superstar Ultra...)

I've never played a Metroid or StarFox game.

I've never beat a Legend of Zelda game, and I've only played Zelda 1...

The best 3-d Mario game in my opinion is something you're going to hate me for. Hint: It's not SM64, SM64DS, SMG, or SMG2...

I haven't beat Super Mario Galaxy yet, and I don't own Galaxy 2 (but of what I've played, its super easy...)

In Super Mario Galaxy, I'm cheating by reseting the Wii everytime I die, so I can finish with zero deaths.

My least favorite character in SMG is Rosalina, she talks WAY too much, come on, its a Mario game, not a freakin' novel...

...Yeah, I'm probally boring you right now, so I'm going to stop right here...

Haven't quite decided yet, but I'll probally have to draw new BG tiles. The BG that I requested doesn't fit in with the foreground graphics...at least not the current FG graphics, but it did inspire me to make a new level where it would fit a bit better, when I assembled it, it looked a bit more like a forest than inside a muncher, so it will most likely be used for a secret level.

if you want, i can make you a FG that fits my BG.

Thank you, it fits just fine with my usual style. Its just that the graphics are supposed to feel darker and spookier than my usual style. However, the level its planned to be in is supposed to be a ruins theme. However, its still inside the muncher, so if you can think of what the muncher equivanent of bones is, you've got the job!

Anyone know a good song for a shop? It needs to be quiet and calm, yet fast-pased and catchy. I don't know if thats the best way to describe it...

...Anyways, I would prefer for the song to be a composition, because so far the songs in my hack are all custom-made by users here, although a rip is okay, as long as it fits.
