Infos about the hack, I'm going slow because I have nice gimmicks in mind but no level design ideas to go with it. I must take pauses. Because, I'll learn you something. If you play my hack, you'll play a dream. Yep, a dream. I have no imagination in real life. But, sometimes my dreams bring me level design. And curently, I had none of these dreams. I don't know what to do to bring e'm back. But maybe I should continue on thinking about the story.

Well, the only thing that I can think of to help your dreams come back is playing Mario games. Lots and lots of Mario games, or side-scrollers in general really. Maybe playing some of the hacks on the site will help inspire you, or at the very least, it might make your dreams come back. Also, please don't stop the hack just because of that BSNES rule, it was removed for the time being anyways. I love what you've done so far, keep up the good work!
Eh, sure. Why not? Kaizo hacking doesn't seem too ha-aaaaaaand I broke the ROM.

You did two errors.
First, you used link WHICH doesn't work with default (20 posts per page) setting (it leads to page 14).

Second, you linked to the post which isn't MAIN POST for it (You linked some random DarkBones's post).

There is "Link" button in post bar for a reason - to easily copy links between people which have different settings, just press with right mouse button at it and press "Copy link target" (or something similar)

http://www.smwcentral.net/?p=viewthread&pid=704317

This link will lead to this same post, no matter of settings.

And, this is actual main post.

As for joining, it's enough to write in thread you want to be Play or Bug Tester. Simple.

...lol I feel special...

Anyways since it hasn't yet been clearly said, a Play Tester is someone you can ask to check your level design, OW design etc., and tell you how fun it is to play. A Bug Tester (Like me or mariondoe), is someone who you can ask to find cutoff, glitches, and other stuff of that sort.

Here's an even clearer explination:
A Play Tester:
Tests how fun a hack is.
Tests quality of level design.
Tests quality of OW design.

A Bug Tester:
Tests for glitches.
Looks for cutoff.
Tests OW Events.

Yeah, thats all I can think of, hope I helped!

Looking awesome so far! It looks just as good as Toads Tool 64! Heck, you could even call it "Toad's Tool DS"! Just one idea for a feature of the editor that I have (I doubt you're going to impliment it though...): It would be nice to have some sort of converter that converts the level edits INTO cheat codes. Then anyone with an Action Replay could play their hack on a real DS without some hard to find/can't find in stores flash card.

Thats right! Thanks to boredom and a search on Google, I was able to find a few helpful things about Kirby Superstar Hacking!

Here is an in-progress data map for Kirby Superstar, it's not nearly finished, but still useful for things like text editing!

Here is the thread that I found that linked me to the link above.

Hope this is informative for all you Kirby fans out there! Who knows, someone may make Kirby Superstar hacking almost as big as SMW hacking!

Anyways, I will hopefully add things I find from Google from time to time. I also may work on a Kirby Superstar hack if I find enough! (Its one of my favorite games...)

Also, don't be afraid to add anything you find! Maybe we'll start some sort of fad!

This is looking really good so far, honestly, what I saw in the video wasn't really all that bad. Mostly just a matter of bad music choices. Oh, and by the way, Wario made it, now where's my cookie?!

Self-explanitory. I wanted to hear what everyones Top 5 favorite SMW hacks are. Here's mine to start of:

5) Back to the Classics

WHAT?! Someone like me who absolutly despises Vanilla Hacks has one in his TOP 5 FAVORITES?! Well, yeah, it's one of the few vanilla hacks (read "very Very VERY few vanilla hacks") that i've played that has a different feel than the original Super Mario World. If I want to play something like SMW, then I will play SMW itself. (plus, BTTC comes with a custom music version, thats the one I play...)

Tied for 1st) ASMWCP,SMW: The Cookie Crisis, ASMT, SMW: Legend of the Seven Golden Statues

Ahhh, the sweet taste of chocolate hacks! If you want something thats new, exciting, almost to the point its a brand new game (they feel so new, that they create the illusion of a brand new OFFICIAL NINTENDO game! Well, with the obvious exceptions of ASMT (various instances of crude humor), and ASMWCP (because it says all over the place it's a hack), but thats another story...) ASMWCP is definatly one of the most hyped hacks on the site. If you haven't played it yet, PLAY IT! In fact, you should probally play all of these, because they are all good examples that just because a hack is chocolate, DOES NOT mean that the hacker will cover up bad level design with cool ASM gimmicks. All five of the hacks I mentioned have some of the best level design I have seen, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for something that feels like a whole new game (even BTTC feels like a whole new game AND IT'S VANILLA!)

So please, leave your opinion on the best 5 hacks YOU'VE ever played. I'd like to know what others think.

1. SMW: The Secret of the Seven Golden Statues

By far my favourite. The best level design of all hacks on the site, some nice graphical choices and good tracks selected. The ASM gimmicks like the power-ups and special moves just finished the amazing hack. I recommend this piece of epic to everyone.

I know, its just plain awesome, isn't it! Also, I just noticed that it was in the highest rated hacks. I seriously just was looking through the hacks, thought it was interesting looking, and played it (dead serious, I didn't look at reviews, or any videos. Nothing like that, I played it not knowing what it would look like from anything but the snapshots...same case with BTTC). Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this hack is epic!

If you're talking about Mario starting on the second map screen, try switching to sprite editing mode, and move Mario's sprite onto the World 1 map over level 1.

Oh boy, a hack to test, and this one's not vanilla! I'll edit this post as soon as I finish testing the hack.

EDIT: Oh...my...word...THAT IS ONE OF THE BEST HACKS I'VE PLAYED SINCE ASMWCP, ASMT, AND SUPER MARIO ODDYSEY! Keep up the good work, because I was sad when it ended (and when I took the secret path by mistake, and continued for nothing(FAKEEDIT(really part of EDIT1): Okay, not for nothing, I got some more cool levels...) but thats a different story...)

EDIT2: Okay, I exagerated a bit, but I still really liked your level design for the most part. The OW needs a bit of work, but its better than I could do, also, why do the pots hurt you?

When you change the music, instead of changing it for the last edited submap, it has a bunch of tabs for the different submaps. See what it says under the Yoshi's Island tab, and if its the World 2 music, change it.

Could someone please make a tutorial for the custom pause screen patch?

I have kind of a n00by thing to ask, does anyone know what to set these two exits so that

Yoshi comes out at the door (04E sprite),

and out of the left pipe?

I can't figure out the right coordinates for these two exits, no matter how hard I try.
Eh, sure. Why not? Kaizo hacking doesn't seem too ha-aaaaaaand I broke the ROM.
Actually, the pipe is a different room entirely. The first co-ordinates got me in the general area, it was right under the door.

By the way, as far as I know, the door-closing animation only appears for "X" doors (that is, S1, or S4E after it's been unlocked).

Actually, I already changed the door exit to that a few hours ago. I need to know what to set an exit to in another level to go to the pipe on the left in the second pic. Sorry for asking though, its just trying to set exits gets kind of irritating before you get used to it.

...I'm both happy and upset that you beat me to this...

Upset because: I'm not the first to try to port the soundtrack.

Happy because: I don't have to do any work to get the songs on my iPod!

EDIT: WHAT THE...SPCs? I thought they would be MP3s! Guess I still will have to port the soundtrack myself...

Phew, a level design contest! I have a few level ideas that just don't fit in my main hack. Sign me up!
Eh, sure. Why not? Kaizo hacking doesn't seem too ha-aaaaaaand I broke the ROM.
There are two things that I just can't get to work no matter how hard I try.
1) The Walljump blocks (custom block)

2)The Skull raft (Original SMW, and yes, I enabled sprite buoyancy...)

Could anyone help?

About the skull raft (which doesn't even require sprite buoyancy), you are not placing it on the normal lava that you can use in every level, are you? Because it only works on the lava from the cave tileset.

Thanks Octopus!! Well anyways, how do I set a reset door? Do I just direct the door back to the same level it is in? Or is there something more to it?

Thats about it, yes. But there's a little more, you have to use a secondary exit. Click on the icon of the door with a 2 on it (modify secondary exits), then pick the secondary exit you want to use (for example #000, or #1C4). Modify the coordinates like you would a normal exit. Then place your door. When modifying the screen exit, enter the number of your secondary exit, and make sure that "Use the above value as a secondary exit number" IS CHECKED.

Unless, of course, you want the door to start the ENTIRE level over, then you do what you said.
