I saw all 3 of the Sonic movies so far, and both Mario movies. To be honest, the first Mario movie (the live action one) sucked IMO; it just wasn't good at all like the first animated Mario movie.

On the other hand, I definitely enjoyed the Sonic movies (I just saw Sonic the Hedgehog 3 a couple of days ago). One thing's for sure, I'm looking forward to not just the next Mario movie, but also the Legend of Zelda movie (I'm *really* looking forward to it, even if it doesn't come out until next year).

Hmm, that's not quite how I did it. I believe I took a bunch of images and went to this website called randimg that I uploaded them to in order to create the changing avatar.
/\ you're partially right. I'm not on the forums all that often these days, but I still do post from time to time, like here for example.

Hey, just wondering if someone here could please make a 64x64 version of the Moving Castle Block? I keep thinking I once saw a 16x16 version of that sprite here somewhere (maybe at a previous C3 event?), but I am not 100% sure if the smaller version exists.

Anyway, whether or not the smaller version does exist, I'm crossing my fingers that this one is solid on all four sides (I assume a new custom clipping routine would be needed?).

My thanks in advance.
I'm not sure if I'm gonna buy the Switch 2 when it comes out, being as I'm keeping a watchful eye on whether or not it will be possible to softmod it to do stuff like use RetroArch emulators, considering my Nintendo Switch is one of the early unpatched models from 2018 (even then, you still have to be careful when using a softmodded Switch).

The other challenge is finding a store which sells RAM at all. I've looked up into two different Media Markt (a German electronics store chain) but one (a smaller store) had none and the other (a bigger one) had only a limited amount of selections (that is, three different products, two of which are of the same brand) and I prefer to shop in-person than on-line. I'll probably search for more stores if not find a store specialising on computers and their hardware but if not, I'll probably order it online for real.

Funny, when my previous laptop kicked the bucket last year, I was told that the RAM it used is somehow still usable (this certainly surprised me since I wasn't expecting any part of my previous laptop to still be usable after it died). This is something I haven't put that much thought into though since getting the new laptop I have now. Are you also using a laptop? My previous laptop lasted 11 years, and yeah, you definitely don't want to have a buildup of dust in the fan(s). Nonetheless, good luck there.

My PC keeps screaming at me to buy a new computer because it can't physically upgrade to the newest Windows.

I'd rather not do that. I've only had this computer for a couple of years and it still works great.

I suppose if when Windows 10 loses support I'll just keep on using it and being a little more careful. Just how the folks who are still using Windows 7 and XP are doing.

Are you using some sort of anti-virus software? I'm rather curious to ask because if you're not using anything of that sort to protect your computer from viruses and other malicious stuff, you'll be pretty much on your own with Windows 10 by the time Microsoft stops supporting it.

On that note, let me tell you a little story; when my previous laptop's first C drive died, I thought that was the end of that computer, but since I knew at the time that Windows 7 support was gonna come to an end (that laptop originally came with Windows 7), I told the man who put a new C drive in the laptop that I wanted to upgrade to Windows 10 (he specializes in fixing laptops). It gave my previous laptop a few more years of life before it finally died last year. So yeah, you're pretty much risking keeping your computer safe if you decide to not upgrade to Windows 11 by the time Microsoft ends its support for Windows 10 (that's why I asked if you have some kind of anti-virus program to keep it safe).

I don't quite get how your computer can't be upgraded to Windows 11 though, that just seems...weird (I mean, you should be able to buy Windows 11 at a local store, but if your computer just won't allow you to upgrade its OS, that's a different story).

I just get messages that say this PC is incompatible with the newest version of Windows and can't be upgraded.

This computer came with Windows 10 pre-installed, so maybe that's part of the reason?

In regards to anti-virus, I intend to get some kind of protection by the time support ends, it just won't be anything fancy.

On a side note, it's -30 degrees F where I live right now! #smrpg{ohno}

Yeah, that is way weird your computer is stuck on Windows 10. Maybe it has to do with the technical specs of your computer (aka that is just isn't powerful enough to run Windows 11); that's the only thing I can think of here, considering I've developed quite a bit of knowledge on computers over the years (self-taught knowledge, that is).

As for anti-virus protection, I suppose you could go for one of the free anti-virus programs. Personally, I find that they aren't always as good as the paid ones for cleaning your computer though, but I'm fairly sure you'll be able to find something good that if not free, is not too expensive (I use BitDefender, and though it can be...overprotective...it is still a pretty good program for what it does). Good luck there!
My plans for the upcoming C3 are gonna be a little different than usual; though I do like checking out ASM topics and stuff, my main focus is gonna be on making a topic with screenshots of my upcoming hack (though chances are they'll all be screenshots from the tutorial areas, since that's what I'm currently working on). It's gonna be my first C3 topic; I'm about halfway through with making the tutorial areas, and next up for me is making a Superball Flower area considering lx5's custom powerups are an integral part of this hack.

As for the theme and gimmick, I'm honestly unsure what would go well for this one. I'm just crossing my fingers they are good and not too hard on the eyes.
The only way I know of that a computer can run more than one OS is emulation (of course, not many OS's can be emulated, but one that I know of that can be emulated is Windows 95).

Before I got this laptop, I used a Chromebook, which has virtually no support for programs with the exe extension (I'm fairly sure I mentioned using the Chromebook here in the past). Being as it is pretty much only good for internet browsing and basic office work, TBH I didn't really like using it that much, especially since I couldn't do any SMW hacking stuff on it.

So yeah, I feel you on how hard it is to switch from Windows to a different OS. When you've gotten so used to the many versions of one particular OS, it can be emotionally difficult to get used to a completely different OS.
I had a hunch there would be a smaller version of the moving castle block, so thanks for confirming it sholmes (I'm totally fine with it being made exclusively for that hack).

Oh, one little detail I forgot to mention, if someone claims this, could you please consider making it able to crush the player against a solid surface with less jankiness (e.g. killing the player if the moving block ends up blocking them from any side)?

Thanks again.
I actually remember using these two resources together. Are you trying to make Mario be right-side up if he enters a pipe while upside down? If so, you'll need to place two of the reverse gravity blocks (the ones that make Mario right-side up again) a little bit above the pipe exit (or if you're doing it the other way around, they'll have to be placed a little bit below the pipe exit).

Oh, I need to point out a couple more things you should know if you use these resources together; one, the vertical scrolling pipes work much better than the horizontal scrolling pipes, and two, IIRC you need to swap the entrance and exit caps (I did make this setup successfully work with a vertical green pipe, but it's been a while since I did that, plus I ran into a problem with the reverse gravity patch so I'm not really planning to use it any more).

Good luck.
I haven't met anyone here either (I only know of one person here who like me, lives on Prince Edward Island, and that's DynastyLobster), though it would be nice to meet her as well as just about anyone who wouldn't mind making a trip to Canada's smallest province. If anyone here likes Canadian history, I have a reason for you to come visit my island. My province's capital (Charlottetown) is the birthplace of Confederation.

Plus, for any of you who like potatoes, chances are your potatoes came from PEI.
There will always be signs of life here; I mean, what would we do if Discord went down and none of us could access it? Hopefully that won't happen to us (has it? I hope not.), but if it does, at least we've got this topic to talk about it.

Crazy Eights eh? I remember that card game quite well; I've noticed several variants of it, but when I play it, I usually go by these rules:

-eight cards are dealt to each player (I usually would play two player games of Crazy Eights)
-if the top card is an eight, jack, two, or the Queen of Spades, it makes the player going first able to place a card of any suit, miss their turn, draw two cards, or draw five cards respectively. Those same cards would have the same effect if played later on.
-in a two player game, if one player has multiple jacks, they can use both or all of those jacks to make the other miss consecutive turns, and that can be a sneaky way to win if that player has multiple jacks (or even just one), and has a last card they can play on top of the jack(s).
-if a two is played, and another two is played on top of it, the next player must draw two more cards than what the previous player had to draw (e.g. the first two would cause two cards to be drawn, the second would cause four cards to be drawn, the third would cause six cards to be drawn, and so on)
-when a player is down to their last card, if they forget to say "last card!" when they play their second last card, they must draw eight cards.
Being based in Prince Edward Island, I've done a little bit of travelling off-island; I've been to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick several times each, I was in Quebec once (I got there from the New Brunswick border), and I've been to the United States on a few occasions, even though the only state I've been to is Maine.

See, I have...a fear of flying, so for all of those trips, I travelled in a vehicle. I'm personally hoping to go to Ontario someday to do a couple of things, like seeing a Toronto Maple Leafs game (preferably against the Ottawa Senators), and seeing my all-time favorite band The Cooper Brothers, who are based in Ottawa.

I really want to go more international and go to Japan. I'm really looking forward to go to an island in Japan that's full of a massive group of rabbits called Ōkunoshima. It's definitely one of my bucket list of places to go to.

Oh, are you talking about Rabbit Island? I saw a YouTube video taken from that island, and I found it to be quite interesting (similarly, there's another island in Japan that's populated by lots of cats, which I believe is called Cat Island).

I've considered a trip to Eastern Canada, any particular spots you recommend? I've been to Maine a couple of times which I really enjoy.

Well...I don't want to be biased here, but I do personally recommend coming to Charlottetown, which is the birthplace of Confederation (and the capital of Prince Edward Island). There's also some attractions in Cavendish (west of Charlottetown) that are open during the summer, and one in particular, called Sandspit, has a ferris wheel and mini-golf among other stuff there. We're also famous for being the home of fictional character Anne of Green Gables; if you or anyone else here has heard of her, the house of L.M. Montgomery (the creator of Anne of Green Gables) is also in Cavendish, which again can only be visited in the summer. We also have the Confederation Centre of the Arts, which has artwork that can be checked out, and occasional plays. Plenty to see and do here on Prince Edward Island!

Speaking of solo games of this kind, what do you all think of crosswords? I have lately become obsessed with the Spanish expert crosswords in El País. Not quite NYT difficult but still a challenge, and it helps me reconnect with my love for writing and grammar.
I also know Wordle got big during the pandemic but I never tried it. Did any of you?

I'm not really into standard crosswords (I sometimes figure out some words; I just never finish them), but there are a couple of variants I like. One is called Brick By Brick, which is a crossword with all the answers, but they're scrambled up into "bricks" that are 3 letters by 2 letters. The first row of answers is always given to start players off, and basically you need to figure out where each "brick" goes. They're not too difficult, and they're one of my favorite kinds of word puzzles. I also like Fill-In puzzles, which are similar to crosswords, but they give you all the entries, and you basically have to figure out where they fit in the puzzle (there's usually a starting entry in a Fill-In, but not always). And there's one special kind of Fill-In I like to do that is more of a challenge; you get all the E's (most of the time) in the puzzle, but none of the black squares, and the key to starting one of these puzzles is to look for a word that has double and/or multiple E's. You have to put a black square at the start and end of each word (or just one of those two if the word begins or ends at the edge), and you also need to balance out the number of black squares by putting them in the diagonally symmetrical opposite side (e.g. if there are three black squares finishing the last row, three black squares must begin the first row).

As for Wordle, I usually play it at the place I go to twice a week, and there are a few variants the people there like to play besides the standard Wordle. There's a Canadian version called Canuckle, and there are even versions that either have words with more than 5 letters, or have you trying to figure out more than one word (the latter usually gives you a few extra guesses since these ones are tougher).
Hey, so I was just checking out the 2FA protection in my profile after putting in my password, and I noticed that there's a QR code here. Since I don't have a mobile phone, can I use my 3DS to scan the QR code? Even though the 3DS internet browser isn't the best browser out there, using my 3DS is the only way I know of to enable me to scan a QR code.

The 3DS is not a device that will have 2FA support. The QR code is a convenience for setting up a Two-factor auth app on a smartphone, or other device.

Darn, then that means I'm one of the few users here who currently cannot turn on 2FA support. That makes me kinda sad right now, but hopefully someday I'll be able to do it.

So yeah, thanks for letting me know AmperSam.
Hello C3! Knight of Time here, and I have a treat for you all. Some of you may remember long ago I made a SMW hack called Mario & Luigi's Double Trouble, which I sadly had to discontinue. But like a phoenix rising from the ashes, I eventually regained my desire to hack SMW again, and as a result, I began working on a new hack that I've decided to call Mario & Luigi's Ultimate Adventure, and for good reason. This new hack is chock-full of custom asm, and one of the biggest additions to it that my old hack didn't have is lx5's custom powerups (as you can expect, Luigi will be playable here in addition to Mario). I want to personally thank Pink Gold Peach for giving me the inspiration to make a hack revolving around these extra powerups and even though my hack is currently a WIP with no demo to show just yet, I have some screenshots to show you all. These screenshots are all taken from Princess Peach's castle, which is gonna serve as a powerup tutorial hub where the player must break 8 targets in each area that are either red, blue, green, or yellow (each are breakable in a different way), and may have something even bigger here later on. But for now, without further ado, here are the screenshots I have so far.

This one is from the hub, where you can choose what powerup you want to try out.

The rest are from a tutorial area; now, there are several more here, but I'm gonna divvy them up according to the powerup they each show off (I hope you guys don't mind I chose the same BG and FG combination for the powerup tutorial areas; I wanted them to basically show the exterior of Princess Peach's castle, since the outdoor area of her castle in Super Mario 64 was my inspiration here). Note: I'm not gonna show screenshots of every individual powerup tutorial area being as I am only roughly halfway in designing them (the ones with the yellow targets are considered "before" and "after" screenshots, being as they are the hardest to break, but just require moving at full speed).

Super Mushroom:

Fire Flower:

Hammer Suit:

Boomerang Flower:

Super Leaf:

Tanooki Suit (this area was a little stubborn to work on; I had to fix the bumpers in one of the screenshots for this powerup):

Frog Suit:

Superball Flower:

Rocket Boots:

So yeah, once I get the first world (Grassland) completed, I'll make a new topic in the Works in Progress forum with screenshots of some actual levels, and a demo of the first world including these tutorial areas. In the meantime, I hope you all enjoy C3!
