That actually sounds like it'd be pretty fun. Haven't done any casual composing recently, so it should be refreshing to get to do something like this.
Since I feel obligated to post something of mine here every time I post in this thread, Have some Classical Music.
The instrument choice at 0:27 could have been better, I thought. Not quite as sharp sounding, you know? It drowns the rest of the song
out at certain times, so you might want to fix that as well...
Also, at places like 0:56, where you're shifting keys, try changing the minor thirds to major thirds (make the Gb and Db natural/move them up a step).
Other than that, I thought that the song was really, really cool. You should definitely write more of these.
By the way, should it be in any specific style? I'm thinking about doing something like Bach's Harpsichord concerto in D minor, but if it should be something that sounds more modern, I can do that as well.
I've played the Piano for 7 years now. I actually have a recital tomorrow, at which I am playing one of my own compositions. This will be the first time I have ever done so.
In addition to Piano, I have played Violin since middle school (only in school, no private lessons), and of course, recorder. I can also produce sound on the flute, clarinet, and doublebass. I've played the cello before, without having ever taken lessons inside or outside of school, and actually surprised the other cellists there because I was so good (The only reason I chose violin over cello was because at the beginning of 6th grade all of the cellos were bigger than me :I).
Also, I've been composing since 7th grade. I took a huge break during 8th grade. Coming back to it was the best decision I've ever made.
Ok, so thisshould be the final version of it, unless anyone wants me to change anything about it.
(The reason it loops so unevenly is because it's supposed to have a ritard there, but my notation software doesnt support them atm unfortunately)
Well, this was fun.
I'm glad to have worked on this game, but I do wish that there was a bit less custom music. (So far, I've only heard my Fortress theme used once-- in quite a vicious level, as well.)
I will, however, say that, when custom music is used, it is used appropriately, and fits the level much better than any of the remixed themes likely would have. So I guess I can't complain much, heh.
I guess I just wanted a bigger role in this.
That being said, this is certainly an incredible piece of work, and I can't wait to play the rest of it. Bravo, everyone. Can't wait to (hopefully) work with you all next year.
I actually feel kind of bad about that. I assumed because we were having an entire world of castle levels that we'd need two, but the vast majority of the people who actually designed a fort/castle level provided custom music.
Hey, don't sweat it. I'm just glad my month's worth of effort on the piece didn't go entirely to waste.

I found this to be one of the downsides of integrating the custom music builds alongside the contest as opposed to prior, especially since half of the songs didn't seem to see the light of day until after the contest was over. I had every intention of using a song especially made for the hack, but since neither fortress song existed at the time of the contest's deadline (I think Torchkas' mix was in some sort of limbo at the time) and the original castle theme was so unfitting in my level it made me a bit leery of how the remixes may fare. Essentially, at the time, I just didn't want to risk the unknown.
I guess that's fair enough. I can understand that you wouldn't want to use a remix that hasn't been created yet, since it could ruin the feeling of the level.

The (level) music should be finalized before the contest's deadline
...An idea. What if we allowed level submissions that use custom music, but maybe remove said music if a remix that suits the level well is created, and replace it with said remix? Just a thought....
EDIT: By the way, since the contest is over, I assume I can go ahead and submit all my music to the music section?
