Decoration. I might make another variation which is green or purple and hurts you or something. I wanted it to make you bounce but that's hard with vanilla resources.

Don't think I'll add sloped roofs though as they don't really fit in a urban environment.
I could. I'd have to replace the bounce block, but I'm not sure if you can even exanimate sprites? I'll try, I suppose.
The palette, I would presume. It is very, very red. Makes Mario stand out a lot.

Well! You're doing good work then.
Could animations outside of the emulator screen stay disabled if I chose to disable them? Because right now whenever I test the level in LM it enables the animations again and it's a bit distracting.
