Yes, this is the proper way to do it. It will be glitchy unless you make a collision map fixing the collision of the fence so mario doesnt directly pass through it

Q; Why does the game freeze when I play through?
A; It's often caused by using a solid object who's collision is not in any available rambank (no way to fix this aside from reimporting with a new rambank)...

What does that mean? I'm new to rom hacking and I'm having this same problem, it crashes in a certain area... I try to look around to reimport a new rambank, but I can't find it. I've also tried to reduce polygons and limit the number of objects near there, but the same problem occurs over and over again. In the area, there is a Chain Chomp, a hidden star, five "secret" locations (aka Check Points), and a couple "Bubbly Trees". I can post pictures if that helps to solve this problem... I have no idea how to fix this... #smw{o_O?}

Are you using the "Ground Enemies" object bank? If not, the game will crash when you go near a Chain Chomp

First of all, I know that SketchUp 8 Pro is the best and ideal version for making levels.

My question is, how reliable is SketchUp 2016 Pro? I say that
because 14 and 15 versions had problems with obj exporter.

Even though I should use SketchUp 8, I would love to keep up to
date with the latest version of SketchUp(Newer features, more
updated drawing tutorials, etc.)

Sketchup 2016 works fine for level modeling, I use it myself ^^
You'll have to get used to the changed interface, but there haven't been too many problems i've experienced with it!

Your level is too big, try enabling the "Extend Level Boundaries" patch in ROM Settings. If you've already done so, you'll need to lower the scale of your model.

The problem I used to have (and still have to an extent) is the size of the level. You dont want your levels to be too small, but on the other hand you dont want them to be too big. Try to use vertical space too instead of leaving it flat, use lots of hills and non flat landscapes, etc.

Look at other 3d platforming games like Rayman 2 or Crash Bandicoot to get ideas and examples of decoration.

Always UV map your paths so they look continuous without cutoffs. Try to use transition textures as well between walls and the ground.

Don't know if you have it, but you can easily remove this in Paint.NET. Save it as a .png file and make sure the 8 bit depth is checked while saving. Import the pictures and they will be gone ^^
