For example using a thwomp in a basic grassland level, like the first level of vanilla SMW?

can someone give me instructions on how to add a new background? (exgfx)

i know how to add exgfx and make it work obviously, but backgrounds seem to just... not work for me

"Sprite" on here means any kind of enemy in the game, so a custom sprite is just a new behaviour script so to say.
That thing you linked absolutely comes with the sprite advertised (it's the .asm and .cfg files), but it uses graphics already existing in the game (namely the Thwomp, since it's a Thwomp boss), so you don't have to insert any new ones.

So for future reference, "sprite" means code, "graphics" mean graphics.


ahhh okay, thanks. i haven't attempted smw hacking since like 2010 so im pretty lost trying to relearn everything.

how would i go about inserting this, then? i know how to add sprites with sprite tool when they come with GFX, but not so sure how to do this with existing GFX
The boss is inserted and moves properly, but he doesn't summon the 'crystal bits' he is supposed to, and doesn't really attack in general. Here's a picture: http://cdn.che.moe/hpiopz.png

I can't find the Crystal King sprite so I don't know what exactly it says though.

here's crystal king. i already checked the asm file, there wasn't anything about this issue. i figured someone here had it working so i thought id ask

Change those to the sprite numbers of each respective sprite slot you inserted the projectiles in.

is there a little asm script i could throw at the end of a boss to make it end the level?
is there a quick way to edit an objects colour? i'm using the bone tile and would like to change it from blue to white, but it's not in the palettes in the 16x16 editor

I saw in Super Mario RPG Armageddon that they straight up just ported sprites from Final Fantasy. I was looking into it, but seems you can only import .dat files? If anyone could help me out I'd appreciate it.
