I just finished porting the remaining Super Mario Bros. 2 songs. Thanks Blittle McNilsen for the the fixed spcs! Helped save a lot of time there. Now to start with the Super mario Bros. 3 ports and we'll be done for the moment. #ab{:D}

I went back to every port and rewrote the DSP Registers to $60 on both $0c and $1c so they could match the originals, dunno if that's a big deal but why not right? I'm not going to update every SPC again, all it really did was just set a master volume on the right and left channels.

Hey guys I'm back with the some more Super Mario Bros. 3 ports! I finished the remaining world mapes: Giant Land, Sky Land, Iceland, Pipe Land, and Dark Land.

I believe your talking about the acoustic bass guitar (sample 05). In the SMAS version, it's amplitude is a little more stronger than SMW's (not necessarily louder and the pitch is still the same). SMW's acoustic bass guitar is still the same as SMAS's I believe but has a weaker amplitude.

Actually, it is kind of a big deal. While changing the master volume could potentially make accurate ports, it has a major downside: It lowers the volume of everything and globally, including SFX, so basically if the song plays once it'll change the master volume forever unless you turn it off with another song (using the same DSP write commands) for another level or reset the game. I suggest messing around with the w command to get something closer instead of changing the master volume.

Also, yeah, the ports are a bit different from the originals, mostly because they're slightly quieter.

WOAH THERE! I didn't know it did that, thank you for the information #ab{o_O}, saved me a heck of trouble! I will go back and delete those commands. Would you recommend me using the #louder command? Or does volume not matter for the accuracy of a Soundtrack?

That answers the question I was just about to ask, thank you for bringing it up at the time. So setting custom instruments over using the $f3 command DOES decrease insert size. Can I use the h command to help tune the instruments while setting them up like:

"asdf.brr" h0 $7f $e0 $00 $08 $a0

instead of:

h0 $ed $7f $e0 $f3 $(sample#) $08 $ee $a0?

It'd really help so I won't have to retune every sample.

So the list of the custom instruments's number starts at 30? I've read the readme countless times but it doesn't directly state how to set up the instrument's number, so I'm assuming 30 is the first like so:

I have another question for my Yoshi's Island Soundtrack. Are there any samples that Yoshis Island has that are presents in SMW? I know it has samples 00, 01, and 02. Is SMW's snare(0B) and harp(0C) the same as YI's? Also, from experience I've noticed that in SMAS, it doesn't use instruments but instead uses multiple samples that are the same but with different ADSR values. Example, SMAS has samples 08 and 09 which is the equivalent of SMW's @22 & @23 (sample 06). Does YI do this? Because I don't want to waste people's rom space when I release this. Sorry for the attack of questions but I REALLY need a music veteran's help here.

I used the original SMW samples. You can tell by looking at the SPC700 player. The original SMW samples are 00-13 (in hex), every number after that is a sample not from SMW. SMAS uses the same samples SMW plus three more: 17 which is timpani (14 in this Soundtrack), 19 which is a trumpet (15 in this Soundtrack), and 20 which is only used for the wind and no songs in SMAS. Every other sample is the same as SMW's so that's why I'm sticking with those because why use more space right? Plus, it's less work for me #ab{^^;;;}. The "twangy" effect must have to do with the amplitude not being as strong, but it only seems to be with sample 04. I don't think I'll touch on that if not that many people care about it.

Forget the last post because this one's bugging me more. So I know that SMAS has 3 samples not found in SMW: 17, 19, and 20. imamelia said there is also sample 06 but I found that SMW's 04 sounds similar and for the most part it worked until some songs that use it in more than one channel appeared (and Torchkas also said SMAS's 06 was different than SMW's 04). Are there any more samples in SMW not found in SMW because some sound SO SIMILAR. So far I've been using MidiGuy's Soundtrack as reference for samples, but then again, some samples that I thought were the same weren't.

If you mean having all Koopa Kid's fight be like Lemmy and Wendy's, just make a ExGFX out of GFX0A. Draw your own frames replacing Wendy's or Lemmy's and there you go. Now if you're meaning to put the other Koopa Kids in a normal level, it's impossible due to them using mode 7 unless you make a custom sprite that behaves exactly like the originals and build your own boss room. OR you could fiddle with the rom adresses of the bosses and/or learn asm.

Open your rom in Lunar Magic, click #lm{extgfx}, #lm{extexgfx}, #lm{insgfx}, #lm{insexgfx} in order. Now exit your rom and open the folder you have it in. There should be 2 folders now labeled Graphics and ExGraphics. Open the Graphics folder and inside you should see a bunch of .bin files. These are the graphics that the game uses. Look for the one called GFX0A.bin. Copy it and paste it into the ExGraphics folder and rename it ExGFXxx, where xx is any number that's 80 or higher (Ex: ExGFX80). You can open the .bin files with a program called YY-CHR (which can also be found in the Tools section). When you open it, make sure to set the grahic format to 4BPP SNES and from there you can edit how the sprites look like in the game. Once your done, go back to Lunar Magic and click #lm{insexgfx}. This will insert your extra graphics (the ExGFX ones). Go to the level you want the boss in, click #lm{sgfxby} and click on the checkbox up top and set SP3 to the ExGFX's number you want, in the example's case, 80.

I've noticed that in the Wart Boss Pack that if converted, it works perfectly until you beat Wart. The tiles on the pillar change into a door but the behavior stays the same rendering it impossible to exit the room. Triclyde and Fryguy seem to hate converting as well. Also, I don't know if anyone else had had this happen, but when a Sumo Bro stomps and the flames rise, it cause sprites in the same screen to duplicate in the fire's position. Almost like the OAM glitch except it's not a tile glitch, the actual sprite itself is duplicated.

I also fixed all ports that use the SMAS's sample 06 but I'm not gonna update every single one of those on this thread because the difference is so little unless you single out that one sample. Biggest differences it made was to the SMB2 Boss and SMB3 Grass Land port. Oh, and Happy Mother's Day to everyone's moms and if you yourself if you're a mom!

You were right about the sample in the the SMB2 Boss and SMB3 Grass Land port though, I forgot to mention that in the last post. That one wasn't 04, it was a sample that SMAS had, but the one in the SMB2 Underground and others like Dark Land is actually 04 which is supposed to be a cello I believe. Anyways I just finished with Super Mario Bros. 3's Overworld and Athletic themes. By the way, what is it about my Yoshi's Island port that everyone seems to be interested in? No one ever comments on it so what is making it be the most downloaded besides curiosity? #smw{o_O?}
Also a Yoshi's Island Soundtrack Update: All songs are almost looped, only ones left are the Credits, Bowser, and the 7 maps and I will will adjust the samples with the #instruments command to save more space and then we'll see about submission #ab{^_^}.

Hey that's okay! Oh don't worry about those old things, every single one is now tuned better with the pitch right on or at the most off by 2, the tempo of every single song has been slowed down more accurate to the actual songs, and every song now sounds like it's actual counter part. I would replace the old spc's with the updated songs but now that every one's been updated, I don't feel like replacing every file in my bin #ab{x_x}. What I think I'll end up doing is putting a link to a zip that has all the updated spc's so people can hear the newer ones.

SMAS UPDATE: Super Mario Bros. 3 In The Clouds, Battle, and Underwater themes. Choke on it XD.
