Fixed an oversight with castle ledge bottom row palette, fixed a bug where very hard mode broke spike tops, sparkies and other wall crawling sprites, fixed dragon coins not spawning correctly, fixed vanilla slippery physics (how has this gone unnoticed?!?!?), fixed fatal crashes involving ceiling beetle and spiny interactions as well as incorrect interaction (wasn't preserving x). The mega mole bug still exists but I figured fixing 2 fatal bugs took priority for releasing a stable build. To fix the issue with spike tops, sparkies, etc on very hard mode simply go back to Yoshi's House and return the game to normal mode and reactivate hard mode or very hard mode. Update in the OP.

What version of the game are you playing? The game has a history of oversights and bug fixes and I always recommend people have this thread on watch to be notified of updates. Sunken Ghost in particular, the way you described it, has me wondering if you are playing the December 2nd, version bc I made the exit so easy to find you shouldn’t be going back to the overworld unless you don’t even read info boxes and don’t follow a trail of coins I placed that lead you to every dragon coin and the exit.

This version fixes 3 serious bugs that do happen (they’re not random) that crash the game (and will restart you save) and it fixes very hard mode which is broken prior to this version. I do recommend this update. I wouldn’t have posted this update if it wasn’t for these serious bugs.

EDIT: I do have to apologize. This hack is extremely convoluted code wise. It just can't seemingly be touched anymore. The mega mole bug still has yet to be fixed and there's still situations in which the dragon coins are not spawning right so apologies for thinking I fixed it.

Alright so I fixed the dragon coin thing. The issue was bc I forgot I also have sprite dragon coins in the hack and they weren’t being checked. This affects certain a levels. I’m not going to update the hack until the mega mole thing is fixed but for those who want this bug fixed just patch this:

DrewV123, thank you for bringing attention to me this stupid oversight. It is IMPOSSIBLE to clear sunken ghost ship on normal mode. The necessary path doesn't appear on normal mode, only in hard mode. This will be corrected on the last upcoming update. I have no idea how no one has mentioned this (I guess bc people mostly were playing hard mode?).

Alright guys, here to finish off the year with this long 3 year late project, if I go any further I'd need to update the intro with 2020-2024 and I don't want that lol. There was a lot to fix, for starters I accidentally left Sunken Ghost Ship unclearable in normal mode and it was only possible to clear it in hard mode. The next problem was dragon coins not correctly spawning in certain areas which took a while to fix bc of not only had object but also sprite dragon coins. After that was fixing the death routine breaking the game bc a hijack was also in there that saves your dragon coins if 5 or more were collected. There was also many instance where the routine to kill all sprites didn't loop through every slot which meant enemies could survive when the were supposed to disappear after a boss was defeated. The tanooki leaf can now destroy turn blocks (unlike the cape which makes them turn). The long awaited fix for the mega mole interaction has been fixed. No more wil you take damage if certain circumstances are met when they jump and you're on top of them. Rocky Wrenches were displaying incorrect graphics when killed in Sunken Ghost Ship. Last small bug I found was that when baby Yoshi ate koopas (shell-less or not) and shells, if you turned as he ate them, you could take damage. Alright that's it! A trailer will be coming out soon (hopefully in time for C3) so keep an eye out! I'll be posting gameplay videos here as well!

EDIT 1-1-24: Of course I uploaded the wrong bps... anyways fixed (last one didn't have Luigi's correct Yoshi dismounting speeds).

What in the actual fuck... so this one actually wasn't a bug created from my end but rather an oversight from the patch's creator. It is my fault for never have noticing this. Fixed. Also will comment the fix in the patch's comment section so someone can update it.

The zip now contains a text that has the version history changes on it. I also took this opportunity to make a simple hex edit bc I changed a value I thought was a typo but it wasn't. You don't need to redownload the hack unless you want the version history notes and or don't know how to patch an asm file. Anyways here's the fix to patch with asar:

Want to say that there is only one "update" I have in mind but all it will do is clean up the hack's wasted space. Throughout the creation of this hack, a lot of stuff was utilized that wasn't properly removed so there's a lot of junk in the rom like multiple copies of level data and level palette data where I made a lot of mistakes. That's pretty much it. It won't be done for a few months that I can tell.

It has taken a long time for me and even now I'm not 100% how well I can word this but the more I ponder the more useless it will become. I know the ease of use decision but that's only ease of use for searching or for downloading a handful songs or less. What if someone wanted to make a hack and use the entirety of a soundtrack? Downloading multiple songs is extremely inconvenient, especially if the ost in mind has like 20+ songs. My proposition is instead of making it one sided to where it only benefits people that aren't interested in an ost is why not change how the filter searches? We already know Telinc1 added a feature to allow the site to play SPCs inside a zip so I was thinking why not go a bit further? Say if a person is searching for "Super Mario Bros - Overworld", the filter could pop up results in a zip that follows careful structure rules (which would be in the submission guidelines). So in the zip it could be in a path likeso "Super Mario Bros/Overworld.txt". To help out maybe the texts and spcs could be in different folders so if you open a the zip the first 2 folders are idk say "Texts" and "SPC" or "Music" and "SPC" that way not only does the filter search for the music but the site player can correctly reach the SPCs. An ideal format would be like how you'd look in a torrent folder when fixing to download and have the ability to do the whole thing as default or select just some of the files in it. At the very least if this is just tossed aside, it would be nice to allow authors to edit their submission description to allow a link to an ost as an option just in case someone wants the whole ost and not do multiple downloads. It'd be easy to revoke those rights if someone abuses them either way.

Great point on the moderation part which is something that skipped my mind and forgot about. I was thinking more of a sense on grand fathering the existing osts. Idk what the “official” rules were at the time but when I was music mod I just dm’d the author on the mistakes and awaited their response or just fixed it myself (unless there was a sample missing in which case yeah waited). In all my cases they would get back to me so I can’t say what I would’ve done if they never did (probably would’ve just accepted and added a note that xx song in the ost wasn’t accepted in the description). I still stand that ost dissolved submissions should have a link to the original ost just in case which the author should have the ability to either edit themselves or be allowed to dm a mod to include in the link. If we want to put some stipulations on what’s acceptable to link to keep it more or less on hosting sites like Dropbox, mega, your bin, etc. Again, yeah not saying hey let’s allow osts again, but I think it’d be a good compromise to somewhat grandfather the already submitted dissolvents to include where they came from (if authors can’t link, just link the original submission it was taken from and it’d be wherever we keep archived old stuff, I always forget where but I know we have one).

Alright so here's the start of a new journey. I decided to start porting the Super Mario Land ost to what could've been on the SNES. Originally inspired bc of Super Mario All-Stars, the plan is to port all Super Mario Land osts to SNES and have a Super Mario Land All-Stars ost pack. The ost will only use the samples from my SMAS+W Ultimate Edition ost which is p much the og smas samples and sma4 extra samples. I have been uploading these to my youtube channel for a while and have prepared a playlist for anyone that would like to hear them. Major thanks to musicalman for helping compose new arrangement for some of these as well as always lending feedback on the mixes. The spc comment tag has him credited in the songs he directly helped port. If I had to choose I think my favorites are Invincible (slower version), Chai Kingdom, and Ending! Let me know which you loved the most!

Super Mario Land (All-Stars) Soundtrack Download



On the side I also worked with musicalman and another friend of mine, Arie, to recreate NSMB Wii's Outside Volcano theme. The plan is to eventually port this to SNES but for right now idk what direction I want to take (either uncanny accuracy with chorded samples or to simplify it down in a fashion of how it might of sounded like had it come to the SNES first). Musicalman transcribed the midi, Arie went through all his roland gear and found the source sample, and I created the session, mixed and mastered.

I reworked on the SMB physics I did last C3 (was it last c3?) to get it much closer to SMB. This patch still requires UberASM and GPS to make some aspects functions (misc physics related stuff and whirlpool). I did knock out some uberasm codes relating to y speed cap which is now in the patch itself and the patch includes HammerBrother's x speed fixes and more hacks that were needed to make other things function how they are supposed to.

SMB Physics v2 (for SMW) Download

On over here I made 2 patches for SMAS (should work for both SMAS and SMAS+W US unheadered, as for the other version I haven't tested them but I think the lakitus one should work just fine but the Luigi one I'm unsure). First patch fixes Lakitu's throws not having any x speed on the spiny eggs (I know there's already an IPS patch but now we have an asm patch so yay). The 2nd patch brings Luigi's SMA4 physics (from the e reader levels) to SMB3. The patch is commented for anyone interested in going through it and maybe making it better (please let me know lol, I'm really not an asm'er, I just dabbed until it worked). There's uncommented code bc I'm trying to be able to do a "press R to switch to Luigi in overworld". Still have ways to go but at least if you play a 2 player game you can enjoy different physics!

Some SMAS Patches Download

I have ported smb3 physics over to SMW and had a WIP hack in mind to show off but will wait to see if a friend I was working with is okay with it. Working with a team of people to create a hack based on SMB3 and the physics was something I was already working on so it worked out well. Hopefully I can you guys the progress as well as the powerups! I modified quite a bit of them to be more accurate to SMB3.

The overworld revolution patch is... well revolutionary lol. This is awesome, we can actually now have a variety of different maps just like SMB3. Imagine a hack with 8+ different overworlds with their own themes and music! As of right now it seems the only limit to your map size is the size a level dimension LM will allow. Great stuff!

@icrawfish when you guys released the ost I was in the middle of working on Birabuto Kingdom. Your ost really helped a lot to make sure I had the corrects notes playing and wasn’t messing stuff up! Thank you for the kind words! I hope maybe we can work alongside with Super Mario Land 2 and 3. Transcription isn’t my strongest suit and I don’t understand how the process went with what you guys did so I commend that effort!

@1UPdudesI didn’t know about the ost much less the game prior to this but it’s one I had a lot of requests with so I finally gave in and was like why not XD. Like you said it does feel nice to have an ost with a coherent style now! I hope people will get great usage from this! We really gave it our all trying to be faithful to what could’ve been a SMLAS!

@GammaV Thanks! I know you’ll put these to great use and I can’t wait! The nsmbwii volcano song is definitely one I really wanna port so bad but I won’t rush the process haha. I definitely want to take my time and think about what direction to take. It’s definitely a tough one bc it has so many tracks in it.

Here's a work in progress of SMB3 Physics and SMB3 powerups. The tanooki flying, frog suit, and tanooki statue needed a lot of tweaking but for the most part, most code was directly ported from SMB3 (especially with the frog suit). It even has the correct sfx when swimming along with it being in sync with its frames. There's a couple of graphical bugs, especially with poses while riding Yoshi but for the most part the physics is near 1 to 1 aside from some oversights and the powerups are pretty faithful. Springboard and pea spring stuff is still unaltered from smw physics os you jump hiiiiggghhhh rn. I added some features to frog suit so that it'd have more usage than just water. It doesn't auto slide on steep and very steep slopes and for future add ons it will not slip on ice or sink in quick sand.

Alright so the original plan was to have a trailer to showcase SMW 30's current hard mode but a lot of things happened and the trailer is still in the works. The trailer will also feature a remaster of a classic cover of SMW that will probably spark a lot of nostalgia. Idk when it'll be finished but hoping while C3 is still open for posts this week. IF and when it gets finished I'll edit this post to have it. I guess as a placeholder why not talk about what SMW 30 has gone through since C3 winter 2023.

Three years, 3 months, and 4 days later from SMW's 30th birthday and this hack still keeps improving. While it may not be much, there's been some streams there and there and the hack's thread has also seen some comments. Someone posted a bug they found where a graphical error displayed while using Tanooki Mario/Luigi and turning on a fence. I took the opportunity to add features I wanted to add as well as fix other things i found along the way. Here's the changes since last C3 up until now:



For those who don't want to go through all this I'd say the highlight imo are Luigi's scuttling sfx, accurate SMB Physics, fixed Luigi physics oversights, water enemies now have a swimming sfx, thwimps have sfx now when they hop, TONS of bug fixes, oh and YOU CAN NOW ENTER BONUS LEVELS WITHOUT NEEDING 100% GAME COMPLETION. Enjoy them if you had them all or even some but could never play them.
