Hey bud! Sorry I didn’t see your post sooner! The boom boom sprite is codfish’s sprite. All I did was add the sma4 features. The glitch you’re describing, is this the hack or from smb3 itself?

Cool to hear someone who’s played the og! I hope the differences make this a much different experience worth replaying! The sprite is from codfish. I don’t know whether or not about the flying offscreen unwinnable bug. Fireballs do indeed affect the boss exactly like smb3.

If I was more talented with asm I’d definitely directly hack smb3 haha but yeah, smw offers more freedom with all the resources we have, as well as the people available to help. Chris has expressed wanting to add more levels to the hack and maybe even redo some. Planning to use Yoshifanatic’s ow revolution patch to make maps much bigger to get that accurate smb3 overworld feel. All new levels designs will be handled by Chris as far as I know but for now I’ve taken control of development with Chris’s feedback.

Any non public resources used for this hack will not be released until we finish. I’m looking at a possibility of 2 years on this if all goes well and we don’t hit any bumps both in the project and ofc irl. -On hardware, Airship level colors mess up. Need to further look into this to see if it really is a hardware emulation inaccuracy for emulators or if the fx cartridge pack isn’t emulating something properly.
-Luigi doesn’t have proper y speed for some interactions yet so expect sometimes jumping super high.
-When switching to Luigi in the OW, his colors aren’t yet coded in.
-it seems under certain circumstances you can jump backwards at insane speeds but verification is needed.

Oh definitely! Chris brought the idea up of making a base so anyone can make an accurate smb3 hack after we finish this. The GFX would probably be reorganized to have the accurate tilesets of the fg/bg and sprites as well as all the resources that'll be made for this hack. Not sure how noob friendly they'll be but we're hoping to expand on the results of this hack bc it would really benefit the community and spawn a ton of creativity!

Good job and keep going.

I can't thank imamelia enough for the hard work on that. I started editing the smb3 goal card somewhere around the end pf July/beginning of June and it took me like 2 to 3 weeks I think to get everything working minus that triple animation. I would never have been able to do that seeing the end result's code involved XD.

Future Plans
-Definitely want to use yoshifanatic's cutscene revolution patch to recreate the sma4 cutscenes
-Use yoshifanatic's ow revolution patch to recreate more faithful maps that span beyond 1 screen like smb3.
-Have smb3's inventory system ported over to work with lorom/sa1, lx5's powerups, and the vanilla/ow rev maps.
-Add new levels with the expanded new maps.
-Have the remaining smb3 sprites that aren't yet made.
-A disassembly of SMB3 Bowser to be more accurate.
-Recreation of the credits but using the new maps instead and creative changes.
-Get Luigi fully functional.

Hehe sexy indeed. The quest log port is actually from the gba port of the same titled game. I was requested by someone to port it and they provided the rip which doesn't seem to exist anywhere oddly enough.

But seriously impressive work, I've been keeping up with your work in regards to the soundtrack, and SML2 certainly has a more robust soundtrack than the original SML1, nevermind it's twice as large.

You know that’s really not a bad idea lol. I may have to do that some day. Yeah this ost was definitely more explorative than SML1 in terms of sample choices. I tried playing it safe and not using to much of the sma4 samples but that actually became one of the things I looked back on and wished I took advantage of. Thinking where we are now it was for the best considering how different it would’ve sounded so it served as a nice bridge from og smas to where we took sml2. If we ever do sml3 I do wonder how much we’ll continue using smw’s samples vs the sma4 samples are maybe if we’ll begin adding more samples seeing as that’s what Nintendo would likely do as the games progressed.

Going to assume you mean tanooki powerup and not suit since it should be impossible to access any powerup outside of Big, Fire Flower, and Super Leaf. You’re right about that. I need to further look into how the tail wagging functions in terms of how many frames it allows you to slow down falling y speed and how often the game allows you to tap B/A. The biggest reason is bc of how Lx5 coded the cooldowns. Not sure of the tail spin and tail wag are the same timer. I need to look back into it.

Thank you! I actually tried something new this time around and used a tool to get the average perceived volume of a songs and used it to keep all songs around the same volume so songs didn't sound louder than others.

On this OST, do you guys have any favorites? I think my favorite is Choose A Pipe. I could listen to it on loop all day!

The tail wagging has been fixed. Trying to see what would be a good idea for another bc we don't want to put out too many but it's also a great idea to keep interest in the hack. Probably will be new additions such as larger maps, the addition of cutscenes, and maybe have it be a 3 world demo? Been continuing more work and have perfected the water physics so hopefully the next demo can have water levels!

If anyone streams/uploads gameplay of this demo, could it please have either Chris's and or my name in the title? Something like "SMB3 Chris" or SMB3 Chris LadiesMan217" (or LM217 or Rem?). This!!! This was one of the biggest complaints for people playing, especially in hard mode! It took a long time but I finally got the system working to where it didn’t screw up in bonus levels.

I mean that was the whole plan from the get go was no more updates XD. I'm just maintaining it so if there's bugs I can still fix them but no more updates like adding new stuff. Right now I'm making retroachievements for it. The initial plan was about 200 but bc the tool can't read certain sa1 areas it'll be less until they update the tool.
