There has been one bug found and that's very hard mode does not get saved. I will not update the game until I finish coding all retroachievements and there will have to be an update either way because I need to make some changes to allow some RA's to work. I have no idea when this update will come since I'm also waiting on the ratool to get updated to have proper sa1 support since only the $7EXXXXXX is readable as of now for SA1 smw hacks.

If you mean the button inputs won’t work on the warning screen and the hard mode screen, on some emulators it doesn’t work so you have to wait until the timer passes.

Sad to say none of these will happens bc I don’t have the assets to the hack anymore. I can only do bug fixes and tweak enemy behavior (which I’m generally against unless like 20+ people are criticize the same problem).

10-15-24
-Fixed the code to restore castle music to normal.
-Updated the music engine to transition faster between songs. Almost like the original with the exception of the SMM2 music bc of using custom samples.

11-30-24
-Fixed SMB and SMB3 Bowser's fireball interaction in hard mode.
-Added retroachievement support.

12-18-24
-Fixed a bug with music messing up in Bowser fight (hard mode) if collecting a star (courtesy of KungFuFurby).

All retroachievements have been coded and the hack has been modified to support some that originally weren't in the last version. The game has a total of 205 achievements. As of right now they are not official but public testing is open. Here's a list of all the achievements. Please either dm me or post here if an achievement is unlocked incorrectly. Leaderboards are planned for the future so I'll keep you guys posted on that. Merry Christmas everyone!!!

I have no idea how I forgot this. Must've been bc I had 2 copies and I didn't make the edit with the backup copy that's used and somewhere down the line I deleted the WIP copy for whatever reason and copied the backup and restarted from there. Apologies.

Unless you’re playing older version, it should be quite simple to figure out. There’s arrows in the room to guide you where to go and there’s only 4 areas which you can land on, 3 stops possible while falling and the 4th being the pipe which in no way would the door be hidden on top of. That only leaves 3 more areas above, 2 which are in the original game and 1 which was added for this version. Hhmmmm I wonder which one it could be? I hope this helps clarify it more bc I really tried to make it as in your face as I could without just blatantly telling you.

Ya know cudos for the honesty and taking it like a champ vs being defensive! As for some of the complaints or questions you had involving the change, it was to encourage exploration since I wanted the game to have the same feel as when you first played it. There was no internet back then and all secrets were found via word of mouth or magazines and I wanted to bring some of that back. Another reason in particular for this level is bc I wanted all ghost levels to keep that “puzzle” theme going. Sunken Ghost Ship was linear unlike all ghost house levels prior to it and this was the simplest change that didn’t require extensively changing the whole level layout but just enough that if you knew the og’s layout, you could explore just the differences. I hope to hear ya play the rest of the hack, including hard mode if you haven’t (as well as the 38 bonus levels)!!!

Some secret exits, particularly the first few that take you to a path of to a star road, have been changed. This was done to encourage players to explore since keeping the game the same just made people skip everything. A part of this was also to encourage discussion of the hack to ask friends and peers like we use to when games first came out.

 Sonikku has currently been working on an accurate port of SMB3's Bowser and it even comes with a hard mode preset.


Would you guys like to see this replace the current version in the hack (the graphics would still use the current gigaleak gfx, just the behavior wold change)? For those who haven't seen it, this is SMW 30's hard mode version. All it does is stun the player when it smashes the ground, the fireball goes horizontal once it crosses the player's y position, and ofc the fireball and boss is untouchable.


On a different note, retroachievements are still being tested and their badges are being drawn.

-SMB3 Bowser's hard mode behavior has been completely revamped (courtesy of  Sonikku porting said sprite as well as helping me change the graphics for this version).
-Fixed issue with music not changing when in player select menu.
-Fixed issues where fireballs didn't affect enemies at times, especially Yoshi fireballs.
-Fixed issue where the item box would draw for one frame when collecting another powerup in Bowser's hard mode fight.
-Fixed an instance where y speed didn't account for Luigi's different physics.


If Bowser gets shot by a certain amount of fireballs or if he makes it past the first layer of bricks on the floor, he'll enter a desperate mode where he begins going all out.

Super Mario World: 30th Anniversary Edition™
A project 4.2 years late in the making!

Super Mario World: 30th Anniversary Edition has come a long way from it's initial release. Prior to the start of this hack I had absolutely no asm knowledge, no plans, and no clear end goal/vision. It was apparent when I kept thinking it was the "final" version there was always things to fix, add, or balance out. The hack ended up becoming an ambitious project I just wasn't prepared for. These days I just maintain the hack fixing any oversights (though today there was a change made that was not bug fix but more on that later). Maybe if I'm confident that there's nothing left to fix I'll submit it to the hack section but that's a big maybe lol. Over the last few months I have been working on implementing retroachievements into the hack and with C3 I'm hoping to reach the possibility of a bigger crowd in the hopes to help test this set. There's 205 retroachievements that are split between normal mode, hard mode, bonus content mode, and the arcade mode. As of the writing of this post, the hack has not been updated to the current version on the site so please do not use that version if you want to help test this set out. If you need help setting this version up to work with the set, let me know via dms or you can post here.

Now for the recent update. Usually I don't add/change features anymore bc as stated before, I don't want to drag the hack and just want to maintain it and fix bugs/oversights, but recently  Sonikku has ported SMB3 Bowser and added a ton of features to it and I was able to modify the hack to have this boss (long story short I lost all of smw 30's assets via usb failure and so I had to manually patch in this sprite as an asm patch)! You can check out his C3 thread right here!

If Bowser gets shot by a certain amount of fireballs or if he makes it past the first layer of bricks on the floor, he'll enter a desperate mode where he begins going all out. He starts out but spitting fire slightly faster, the fire begins going straight when it reaches your y pos (as well as not being spin jumpable), and his slams stun you (he also doesn't look around). Once he begins going all out he'll begin throwing hammers, can jump multiple times, and if stunned he'll spit a barriage of fireballs. His slams will not break bricks at this stage and will take 3 attempts each time to break one. Two ? blocks with fire flowers were added to help balance out the increase in difficulty. For the sake of not dying 2794638 times I made myself invincible to showcase the boss's actions.

Hmmm, I think that only applies if his code was put out publicly then anyone could use it under fair use purposes but the fact of the matter is that Lunar Magic already has a license iirc that says it’s only fair to use as is. Decompiling and distributing the asm would be against those terms BUT on the other hand, if someone were to disassemble the code from a rom that’s a different story. Idk the story behind the GitHub’s sources bc it’s deleted now last I checked but if it’s from the asm that Thomas disassembled, it might actually be under fair use since it’s not decompiled from the tool itself. I doubt FuSoYa cares about smwc rules. If he thinks he has a case and wants to spend the ridiculous money to sue someone over a code made with the intent to hack a commercial game that’s up to him but outside of that I can’t really see this going anywhere. It all has boiled down to respecting a code author’s wishes and smwc even has rules implemented to credit and not use private resources you don’t have permission to use. Realistically I don’t think there’s a law to say you can’t use someone else’s code you disassembled and decided to use in your own non profit hobby project (you just won’t be able to submit it to smwc). For example, my ports and resources used in my hack are protected here from being used in a submitted work without my permission but nothing is stopping that person from releasing it to another site. Like if someone disassembled one of my custom sprites in my hack and uses it in their hack and submitted it elsewhere I’m kinda fucked lol.
