Yoshi's Island. As a 6 year old, I spent a year studying my dad play the game and after that I played it for myself. Despite my young age, after a while of playing this game non-stop, I finally beat it 100% (before my age reached the double digits at least).

No problem, I already have some ASM experience so I covered that. Thanks anyway!

Probably this guy. Took me hours upon hours and lots of sleepless nights to beat him.

So far, I've just made the palette. What do you guys think? What changes should I make? In the future, I'll start posting the rest of my level which should have cave sub-levels and different time of day palettes.

On the pipe probably?

I think you should change the color of the solid blocks to a less mid-blue color, the really light blue bullet bill shooters to a less stand-out color, and the background image to something else because it doesn't really seem to fit with the level. Other than that, the rest looks pretty good!

The palette looks really nice, and everything else seems to look pretty good with your level. I don't think adding more enemies will slow it down, you should try it out since you only have two.

So should I change the outline color back to black? I was experimenting with the lighter outline color.

People get better at improvement. Even if your overworlds are bad, keep making them. If you just get someone to make the entire thing for you, you'll never learn. Even if your overworld is just a bunch of flat land, you'll still have made it yourself, which is usually where everyone starts. With a few months to years of overworld editing, you'll be able to make a really good one. Stick with it, and if you must have this request fulfilled, I'd suggest PMing someone instead of making a thread.

Alright, I tried darkening the foreground palette and making the outline a darker purple.

Original SMW color

or

This?

I'm not a big fan of using the original SMW overworld. Please make your own.

Moving on, the level design was interesting to say the least, with lots of different areas to explore, but many gimmicks were overused like the springboard and p-switches. Make sure to vary up your level design (albeit it was quite new and interesting) because I got a little bored. Also, your aesthetics don't always look the best and sometimes obstacles look a little... off-putting, like when things overlap or when enemies don't serve much purpose.

I say reject it, it needs a lot of touching up plus an overworld.

Well now, this is quite the nice surprise. Good job on the overworld by the way. Despite minor sprite slowdown issues and a kind of unexpected difficulty at the beginning, you've managed to create something quite good. The graphics are great and visually pleasing throughout your demo, and the music is fitting for the levels. I personally like your use of gimmicks in the graphics like not showing the purple moon, which makes for a more counterintuitive experience (a lot more fun that way). All of these levels feature non-linear and entertaining level design which makes for a very well created hack.

I vote for this hack to be accepted. It would make a fine addition to the hack section.

Please turn off auto space on the messages, it's annoying. Also, kudos on the level names, they're really unique and interesting. Despite this, though, this hack needs a lot of work. The level design is uneven and rather dull in a lot of parts. Look, dude, I had some fun playing your hack, but a lot of your obstacles are easy and your levels are a breeze to clear at times and at other times a lot harder (problems with difficulty curve here..)

Please make sure to go back and fix your old levels to make them more interesting. This might sound mean, but you need to hear it: don't make a lack of powerups gimmick to make up for your poor level design. Try making lots of interesting obstacles and land formations that challenge the player to do things they aren't used to. This will make it more fun to play.

No problem with accepting it... but there's some glitches that sadly ruin some levels. So I think those need to be fixed before it gets accepted.

Make sure the pipe tile isn't overwritten by exgfx or exanimation. To aid with the palette question, change the green on top of the floors. Grab yourself a handy-dandy color wheel and that should help you out, because the color is just a tad bit off and it looks weird.

--------------------

9.08777194
I like the palettes; they look really good. Maybe try changing the color of the dark purple stone block and the light brown walls because they don't seem to fit as well as the rest.

--------------------

That brown still looks a bit off. This time, I think the issue is with the platforms below. The orange is too bright and needs to blend with the foreground, not the background.
