Hi, everyone.

I'm a new hacker here on SMW Central. :)

I've decided to create a hack with the (un)original name,

Mario's Adventure!

This is how I plan to have the hack:

The overworld map will be based on the map of Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, with a few extras.

Unlike the traditional 8 worlds, this hack will have 10. Here's a list of the worlds;

Grassland
Blubble Lake
Cavi Cape
Water World
Yoshi's Island
Sky World
Plack Beach
Dimble Wood
Bumpsy Plains
Bowser's Path

Here's my list of things to do in order. If there is a ✓ sign, that means I've done it.

Edit the "Nintendo Presents" ✓
Edit the title screen level ✓
Edit Mario's movements on the title screen level ✓
Edit the text on the title screen ✓
Edit the intro level ✓

Design Grassland levels

Finished!

Please note that this is my first hack, so this may take a while to finish, especially because of its length.

If you've actually gotten some things done, you should show us some screenshots of your progress so we can get a better impression of what your hack is going to be like. In this forum, pictures tend to speak much louder than words.

Also GeminiRage is correct as stated by the rules

If you make a thread for your hack, give screenshots!
This is important. It's not enough to just talk about your hack, you've got to show what it looks like, too! This is what truly captivates people- even if they say they like how it "sounds", you're going to get them with your screenshots above all. How you take a screenshot, though, depends both on your emulator of choice and your key configuration in it, if it allows remapping of things like "Take Screenshot", but once you have it, upload it somewhere like your files, or some image-hosting website.

If you don't show some progress your thread will be closed until you are ready to show something.

They're uploaded now. :D

Background palette seems a bit strange to me. Also, is the big yellow/orange area under the bg supposed to be visible? If not, I'd recommend changing the bg scrolling settings.

Hmm, how does the background palette seem strange?

Also, which settings do you change?

Title.

What should I do first: the overworld, or level editing? I'm having a little trouble with the overworld, and the overworld is going to take a LOOOONG time to do, so does it really matter if I start the overworld first?

Might be referring to the white part where the blue hills go behind the green hills? I'm not sure exactly how the original Mario Kart Advance background looked (been a loooong time since I've touched that game), so eh.

As for the orange area, you would go into the Main and Midway Entrance Settings #lm{1door} for your level, and change the BG initial positioning. Odds are it is currently set to "BG=C0", which is the lowest positioning you can have normally. Try setting it to "BG=90" or "BG=60" to raise the background up higher so that less of the orange area is exposed during gameplay.

Mario Kart Advance? What are you talking about? xD The background is from Yoshi's Island.

I've updated the images. How does the background look now?

There is really no wrong way to do it, you could make the overworld and build your levels off of that or make your levels then build an overworld around it. Personally I prefer the latter, but you kinda need to do what ever works best for you

ok

I guess I'll start with the levels first.
