I recall from my old days that BTSD had diagonal Bullet Bill shooters with its default blocks, but the old folder seems to have gone in some update.

Anyone know where I could find some? Tried searching the blocks section, too, but couldn't find anything.

I'm all about people who can chill with me. When I'm at my worst, usually all I need to pick myself up is to play some Mario Kart and watch YouTube videos with someone I care about.
I like someone who gives me room to breathe, maybe, and who's honest about anything effecting the relationship; I'm fine with polyamory, so long as it's all done in honesty, and I cannot get enough of people who tell dumb silly jokes.

As far as physical traits go, I'm very lenient, but I'll be more overtly attracted to someone who wears form fitting clothing, regardless of build. I'm a huge fan of more feminine fashion on men and find that to be incredibly attractive(even tho I'm pan), but in general, how visually appealing you are isn't a major factor unless you have the appearance of someone who doesn't care about themselves in the least.

Kinda cute doesn't even begin to describe it.

They're like the best of both worlds imo. They're often beautiful, sensitive and have a good sense of humor. And while this isn't universally the case, how can one not like that?

I haven't had any gaming based dreams in a while, but I used to dream periodically about them. I recall once, before that game went to hell in a handbasket, dreaming about RuneScape, wherin the entire dream had the '07 RuneScape look.

I feel like I'd happily pick up a smartphone from Nintendo. They historically make amazing mobile games, and while it isn't their main squeeze, I've always been a fan of their approach to graphic and UI design.

I could see something like this happening, and I could see myself picking it up, so long as they put all the love and care into polishing the UX as they do in their games.

Length is always a fairly complex factor when considering game design and the inverse relation between a long game and player satisfaction.

I don't really want to write out my entire formula for world design in plain English for you, since it's a very complex concept, but it follows the general rule of the Interest Curve. I always design my worlds around three 'anchor points' of interest, which get more interesting as it goes, and interpolate between those with levels that are simply 'par' to create an overall positive experience that doesn't drain me too much.

This allows me to get more done, satisfy my player the most, and cause me to work less. It's arguably an even more effective strategy than turning the gameplay fun up to 11 the entire time.

This image, while for a different game, is a near flawless example of what I'm talking about.

YouTube comments typically aren't the best for finding great philosophical ideas.

Everyone has an agenda. Where a long time ago, philosophy was relegated to a few, today everyone is a philosopher in their own way. Ask what sites like these do for you, then, and more importantly, what they do for themselves.

From what I've heard of the site, it isn't diverse enough, choosing to shut out ideas that the webmaster may not agree with.

"how is this website of "Truth Contest" any different from any web site presenting any other views, the views that happened to win each of the internal Truth Contests happening in the minds of their respective authors?"

I've noticed that threads often have like 40 or 60 views before getting a reply. Even in smaller, less talkative internet communities I've been to, there's usually less than half that before seeing a reply.

I wonder why lurking is so common among SMWC, and how much traffic the site gets for how low-paced the community is. It just strikes me as odd, I suppose.

Hahah, sorry I haven't been on in a few days! I didn't expect this post to get so much attention, kind of caught me off guard. I recall that I made an account here a long, long time ago, and saw maybe 1 post per day. Clearly things have picked up at least a bit.

Anyway, yeah. I know the feeling of having to revise and shorten what I say sometimes. I don't get that way too often, but I can be a bit wordy when in the right mood, ahah! I'm very much a storyteller, just because it's fun! :D

If any of you haven't heard, Unity is one of the most user-friendly 3D commercial game engines on the market, with an incredibly appealing license for indie developers where you can publish your projects commercially for free.

Recently, a new version was released called Unity 5. This is kind of a big deal, since the last major version update for Unity was way back in 2012.

Right off the bat, I'm loving it. They've added support for post-processing, water, and multiplayer features to the free version, while spicing up the full(paid) version with better licensing and technical support. This all without mentioning the abundance of new shaders in the engine, along with the very diverse physically based new standard shader, which supports normal, bump, albedo(not diffuse), emission, and occlusion mapping, along with support for detail versions of all of these.

So, I'm really impressed and pleased with this new version, and I wanted to see what y'all think of it. If you haven't used or heard of Unity before, you should check out some demos to see what it can make, and if you have, what do you think personally?

Can anyone suggest to me any hacks with a particularly non-punishing sense of level design that picks up at about vanilla world 6 difficulty, preferrably with a semi-chocolate feel?

Oooohh, neat. Even my poor laptop can run this, provided the system reqs don't lie.

Do I want to get into this, or RPG Maker? Ach, decisions, decisions!

Unity is a much more technical development engine. You can do a lot more with Unity than you could ever dream of doing with RPG Maker, but being a fully featured commercial engine, whereas RPG Maker is closer to a lego set, you're going to have a much steeper learning curve in Unity.

I don't recommend either of these. If you really want an engine that can get you into professional development, but you currently don't know much about practical game design or programming, I recommend Game Maker.

It's not as fully featured as Unity, but it's very user friendly, like RPG Maker, and is focused on being an educational tool to ease you into game programming.

I'll be sure to check out Gamma V's work! Thanks for the recommendation. As far as The Essence Star goes, ZSNES has been dead to me ever since I discovered ZMZ, so I'll pass on that one.

I didn't really see much point to posting in the introduction thread, I suppose. People will learn all they need to about me from what I say anyways, ye?

Whoa. Hardcore. I could never forsake my OpenBox, ahah!

Anyway, I suppose I'm in agreement on this subject. BPS patches are simply superior, and there's no reason to not use them now that flips is a thing.
And you guys seem to have all of the technical details under control, but I'd recommend no longer mentioning IPS patches as being allowed for a while. Still allow them for the people who are currently developing things, but the idea should be to move as many people over to BPS as possible during this process, yeah?

Not only does the ice border look more natural, but it signals to the player that this is an ice level and is going to have slippery control.

That sort of visual signaling is very important in any game, so even if the cement blocks were more aesthetically appealing, the ice border wins simply because it telegraphs potentially important information to the player.
