I've been active on these forums for 6 months and have only made a few posts, so I've decided to make a thread for my so far silently developed hack called:

Super Global Warming World

Story
Dinosaur Land has (surprise!) been flooded by evil global warming, and now you have to fix it!
(The story really didn't take long to come up with)

Screenie time!
The overworld for the first few levels, version 2. I still need to add a few paths, but the layout is mostly complete.

The first level, Rex Rampage. I should probably point out that I intend for the level names to be alliterative. I'm done with that idea.
And yes, I do see the palettes are slightly messed up on the status bar; I intend on fixing that too. Nope! I fixed that.

The second level is called Bullet Bill Bonanza, and is the level on the beach area.

The third level is a cave level, with plenty of water. It has a fancy ASM gimmick that is the air meter, visible at the top right.
(The entrance)

This level, currently named the default DONUT GHOST HOUSE, is a bridge level and is intended to be a secret level, but since the overworld only has one secret exit, it's no secret (terrible joke) where this one will be accessed from.

(Well, maybe this one has a secret exit too)

I've got a few levels to show, so here they are:

This is part of the Green Switch Palace.

This level has been here for a while, but there wasn't really a corresponding area in the overworld for it.

(I think I got hit in this one, which is why Mario is invisible)

I also have a level which goes after that one, which is still under heavy construction, but I might as well share it anyway.

And, finally, here is the overworld. It's obviously cut off at the top right, but I have yet to add anything there yet. Also note the lack of decoration.

Personally I'm not too excited about this one, because it looks too generic. I've never played any of the Paper Mario games besides Super Paper Mario (one of my favourite games of all time, by the way - I think it's just suffering from the same dislike that Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts has), but I have played Superstar Saga and Bowser's Inside Story. This one just looks too similar to them. Additionally, after finishing EarthBound, I've gone off turn-based RPGs almost completely, except for the occasional Pokémon. Maybe in a while, I'll show it a bit of love. For now though, I think I'll pass.

Progress has been very slow with some failed secret experiments with some in-cartridge hardware (hint: not the SA-1), but I have a few miscellaneous updates:

I've started a new underwater level:

It features a low time limit of 30 seconds (the timer has been adjusted to use real-world seconds), but luckily there are blue clocks to raise the time limit (I figured out custom sprites).

Also, to commemorate this, I have finally made a long-overdue fix for the timer's palette.

Also, a quick update on this level:

Well then,
Granted:
1. You can consume more food at once, but then you choke on said food and bad things happen.
2. Doctors create a cure for everything, but bacteria evolve to withstand its effects within the next year.
3. School time in the US is shortened, but then people are no longer educated well, society in the US falls into a state of disrepair, us Brits excel in every field and the US loses its independence.

I wish for:
1. To be able to use 6502 assembly on the 65816 without emulation mode.
2. That xkas/asar didn't use that stupid define prefix (or any prefix for defines, for that matter)
3. That I could actually understand the SNES's hardware. The Atari 2600 is easier to program for!

Except the Game Boy Advance. Silly late-era Game Boy Colour games!
Also, sorry about the tiny size: I scaled it down too far and I'm too lazy to fix it.

I got a bit suspicious when I saw the latest user was called 'Santa'. Then I got even more suspicious when Santa got a custom colour.

This sounds interesting, so I'll have a go. Now, to get an idea!

Wait... I got one!

It's been a while, but I've been doing some technical stuff and other things, so I have a reason.
Not that anyone really noticed.

New Character!
Anyway, I'll start off this with a bit of a story update: we have a new character called Mecha-Yoshi (maybe not very original) who provides assistance throughout the game. He also brings some VWF stuff, as seen below.

New Levels!
The castle of the first world, put off a bit because it sucked a lot. But I got it to a state where I think it is at least 'OK'.

And, a new desert level, taking place at night to vary the palettes a bit.

Random other stuff!
Might as well share the title screen now:

And, to round it all off, something super secretly special!

hdma!

Videos!
<insert connective here> I've also got some videos coming soon of the first two levels since screenies only go so far.
I've got the second one here.

Also, I've decided I'm going to attempt
Weekly Updates!

The aesthetics are rather simple, but I actually like them a lot. If you're going for this look, though, make sure to change everything so no sprite or object looks out of place. As TheFoundKoopsnow said, the castle blocks look odd, as do the segments of the platform chains.

Yes, I do see that they are out of place and I'm currently working on fixing those and some other graphics, especially the castle graphics.

This hack actually looks quite good. Definitely challenging.

I see that you're not using the original "MARIO" graphics in the status bar, so you could perhaps replace them with graphics to make the item box sides connect with the top and bottom of the box going around the whole status bar.

Also, the recent screenshots show the timer with a blank space to the left of the number, which to me looks odd. Maybe you could re-add the clock symbol?

I actually stuck to my plan of weekly updates!
Yaaay...

A New Level
This level has been under construction for longer than it should have been, since ASM hates me. I eventually came up with a decent gimmick where you have to collect four Star Coins to unlock the exit. I finally got it to work, so here are the screenies:

Another New Level
This level is still in development and features rising/falling lava and other fun stuff.

Also...
I made some new castle graphics.

Finally...
Most of this week's updates were technical, fixing sprite memory errors and such. I really suck at ASM, which is partly due to my relative inexperience with the 65816, further harmed by my mostly exclusive knowledge on the 6502. Oh well, maybe someday...

I haven't participated in a VLDC, but having played quite a bit of the 8th VLDC, I think that much change wouldn't be necessary. As far as the overworld goes, I have no problem with non-vanilla assets, since it is Vanilla Level Design Contest.

As for limits to length, I think that would be a good idea. Either that or an indicator on the overworld telling the player if it is a 'short' or 'long' level etc.

Such music!
So lights!
Very HDMA!
(insert more old memes here)

Mine was actually great. I should steal the idea and use it for a C3 joke hack! >:D

Definitely deserves the badge. Well done, Eminus.

Hello! This update comes a bit later (i.e. a few hours) later than usual, so here I go:

New title screen:

New level. The gimmick here is that Mario is constantly dashing to the right, and so is only able to jump.

There is less to show this week since most of the updates have been in preparation for C3 and I'm currently juggling about 6 projects, so I'm still finding time. A demo will exist for C3, even if it's a broken mess (unlikely).

wonder will you have any Christmas levels despite the name

Probably, but with a twist to fit with the theme, obviously.

Granted:
1. You no longer need to sleep, but you still get tired.
2. Nintendo WFC still exists, but Nintendo Network does not and so Miiverse no longer exists either.
3. Your flashcart works perfectly, but it can only play 256kb ROMs.

I wish for:
1. Mega Man 11
2. A good place in VLDC9
3. The ability and will to buy and play Mega Man 11 (just making 1 harder to corrupt).

I'm probably going to finish off my C3 projects and play Mega Man 3, since I've managed to finish 2 (just about). I might also play Minecraft on Xbox One with my friend if I can be bothered to buy a gold membership.

Hello, everybody! Having a good time abusing the slot machine? Anyway, here's the first publicly available demo for Super Global Warming World!

Download here.

Please report any bugs you find, because there probably are some.

Here are some screenshots for those too lazy to search for the main thread. I am not responsible if any are outdated (at least 1 is).

I should probably wait until you model the three ...let's just say... things...

But I want to use my 100th post for this:
Stupid post milestones.

So I did it now!

Or just the slot machine will do just fine...
