No infinite lives(start with 5) or retry is going to be a big turn off for most players. Since the 1st level doesn't save the game that means you will lose all progress when you gam over.

Timer is set to zero so when you die it takes 3 seconds longer.

Every single level feels the same. There is little variation in tricks/jumps.A bunch of set ups get used multiple times even though the hack is very short. Every level has the same music on a 7second loop, Same graphics.

Camera is set incorrectly so you can't see where you are going when shell jumping upwards. Blind drops everywhere with poor coin guides.

Fase-1
Camera isn't set correctly so you cannot see where you are jumping up or down to.

Level design was pretty repetitive. The level starts off with 6 shell jumps, 3 of the same trivial jumps, then 5 of the same jump through munchers

Fase-2
a bunch of blind jumps with coin guides that don't help. Same 7secsong loop from the first level.

Fase 3 - I feel like im playing the last 2 levels again.

Fase 4 - basic falling through munchers level.. but at least its different.

This hack is very low effort.

Vanilla title screen. Which you can die on, breaking the game

Vanilla overworld. Please make your own overworld.

Levels are very short. Enemies and platforms seem randomly placed with no purpose.

Weird cut off and graphics everywhere.

Hack just continues to the vanilla game after the first couple levels.

Overworld is very flat and square. Not a rejection reason but it is pretty underwhelming.

Glitched death counter with garbled graphics on the overworld and in the levels. The counter doesn't work.

Tons and tons of stacked and floating munchers to the point that it gets visually distracting. Lots of graphical cut off noticed throughout the hack which should be fixed.


Level 1:
Can perform the "rope glitch" by riding the rope into the wall, this allows you to climb anywhere and skip the last section.

Level 6: Falling blindly through muncher tunnels is very unfun and difficult. There are multiple spots where you have to fall through one tile spaces or tunnels. This is where I stopped trying to play this game without savestates. This level feels very untested/ played with savestates.

This hack is all over the place in terms of graphics and playability.

Graphically some things are done very nice, such as background and custom graphics. In other parts there is massive graphical issues such as cutoff, weird block palettes, and stacked munchers. Graphics change per level and nothing is consistent which feels very weird. Overall I would say they need a massive overhaul.

As far as levels go for the most part they are actually playable and fun. I was enjoying myself with the occasional difficulty spike (usually one jump). There are a lot of blind drops which could turn off a lot of players.

I couldn't find a way to beat "Camera The Flash". Once you exit the final pipe you automatically touch the orbs and then the autoscroller pushes you to your death. Since every room is a checkpoint this just kills you forever.

Description: Diet Kaizo was made with the intent of giving lesser skilled players a kaizo-lite experience. It still does that but what it was for me was my intro to chocolate stuff.
Custom music, custom blocks, even Uberasm. Stuff I would've just not done because I thought it'd be too hard. But I did it and here's the fruits of my labor:

40 levels
2 secret exits
59 custom music tracks
(some of which are currently unused.)
28+ custom blocks
2 of which required Uberasm.
Custom spritesets
(Only one of which is viewable via Yoshi's House.)
A self made patch.
2 self made custom blocks.
One custom sprite.

I can't wait to learn more and finish this hack.

This hack violates the core value we look for in accepting hacks to the site:

Levels are made from scratch, excluding translation hacks

Many levels are easily recognizable level edits of the original game. In some cases you don't even remove the extra platforms and just move them to the top of the screen. (example 101).

Kaizo hacks typcially don't allow for extra power-ups, objects, and they force the player to play the level in a specific way to progress. This hack looks like is aiming to be a kaizo hybrid so i tried to be lenient in this area when I could, but there was just so many levels that became trivial with cape.

Some levels had interesting mechanics that would be cool to see fleshed out. In their current form they feel incomplete. An example being Obsidian Grotto. It had interesting properties that would make for a cool level. There are way too many mushrooms, as much as 5 per screen, when you only needed probably 1 or 2.

You have good ideas and gimmicks but I think more time should be spent making the levels as good as the ideas.

As for the dragon coin = savestate feature, kaizo light is a savestateless category so make sure they can be beaten without them.

Description: This hack is geared towards the intermediate kaizo player, with similar difficulty to the other usual suspects (Invictus, Shell's Retriever, Gracie World, Quickie, Akogare, learn2kaizo, etc).
The difficulty is a manageable progression thru the 13 exits, and is beatable in a couple sessions.

The gameplay is on the faster side with no vertical levels, no ice physics, and easy shell jumps.
Recommended for those with a solid understanding of SMW.

Lots of custom music and various ASM / QOL patches (fast retry, no HUD, custom On/Off blocks).
2 Overworlds and custom Intro.

Compliments to all the people who ported the songs!

This hack was pretty fun but suffers from a lot of graphical mistakes and level breaks that should be fixed before re-submitting. Since we have talked a little bit through PMs I've also added my input on things that would improve the overall experiences had with the hack.


Banshee's Run - First jump off the goomba is very tight, consider loosening.
Can fly under the ending with the cloud.. though not a big deal

1 Tile Hero - Cutoff by the lava/munchers, should use the correct ground tiles.
Can jump over top of the level and skip many sections.
Not sure what the last shell is for?

Poison Oak - Cutoff by the water.
It seems you can skip parts of the level by running over the top with yoshi.
Ending with wigglers is pretty strange. Not sure of the purpose since they die to the bombs.

Boss Key - You can ride one of the eeries in the 2nd half to skip the entire p switch race section.

Steppin Razor - Cutoff by the rails inside the floor and cement near the door.

Shell of a Time - I found the section with the blue koopa and the block to be very confusing to figure out. I think a lot of people will have trouble with this section, I would consider looking at some ways to make it more clear.
Plenty of cutoff and floating/stacked munchers that aren't needed.

Pendulum - Can skip some sections with some shell jumps.. not that big of a deal though.

Spoopy Vibes - I would consider changing the death blocks to something that looks a bit better.
There is a shell jump before the midway that has 2 coins indicated, but you only need to shell jump once.

Rushmore- It is possible to jump over top with yoshi to the midway.

Lode Runner - Using an extra shell from the 1f0 section at the beginning you can shell jump over the traingle section and skip a bit of the level.

-puzzle level -

multiple parts of the puzzle can be skipped.
since every pipe is a checkpoint it is very easy to get locked into a room and not be able to progress forcing you to reset the game.


-FIRST BUMBUM CASTLE-

floating spikes and munchers are pretty minor but should be looked into. The bottom half of the munchers are not animated so they look very weird.


-forest for blocks-

many block jumps can be skipped my either jumping off the blue koopas or jumping off the triangles.

Many spots can be skipped by jumping over the top of the level.

Easy to feed blue yoshi other items besides the shell(near the checkpoint) then use the shell to fly through the rest of the level.

-AQUATIC LEVEL-
Its possible to get ahead of the spike ball escort and swim over the level ahead of it.

-Colors P LEVEL-
You can throw a shell off the wall and use one of the feathers from the green blocks to fly over the level.

KILLER GARDEN -

You do not need to escort the vine all the way to the top of the level in the first section. In the 2nd half its possible to not use the vine at all and win.

POKEY DESERT - The double volcano lotus before the midway is an insanely tight window to make. There is a lot of screen scrolling that can trivialize sections by helping the pokeys spawn slower or skipping the on/off switching sections.

A lot of poor graphical choices used in this hack. Wrong tiles placed everywhere such as slopes & corners. Stacked and floating munchers. Left over overworld events.

In Way Cool you can perform the rope glitch by riding a rope into a wall then climbing over the level.

After Way Cool the overworld events don't work and I could not progress.
