Hey guys! I thought I'd give creating an original video game soundtrack a shot! The tracks themselves will hold a simplistic structure of typically an Intro, verse, chorus etc. but sometimes I will include a bridge part/middle 8 and others. I am focusing on melody with them too, so hopefully I can come up with a few that will stick in your head!

Here's a piece entitled 'Mystery Sands' (I just love me deserts!) set in an arabian area at around dusk time.

Thanks for the feedback guys, it means a lot!

Here's an update: Mystery Sands Boss Theme

I tried to keep a very similar sound as the original level theme with this one, it's still a work in progress, however this is more than likely the main bulk of the song.

So I've been lurking around the stickied thread and decided to bring forward a new thread as I am progressing through these tracks quite rapidly with the free time I have at the minute.

I am making a full game soundtrack compiled with differently themed tracks, some standard, some more obscure, but a simplistic approach on both. I am also aiming for a similarity within the tracks as a whole to give that 'reminiscent' sound from the one previously heard. Another thing I try and aim for are catchy melodies, tight bass and clarity and all being well, the track will hopefully stick in your head as a whole.

Lets start this off with 4 I have already uploaded:

Here's a pretty interesting story for you:

I had a dream similar, yet completely opposite to exit1337's. Basically I knew this one girl for around a year or 2 and we was here and there as friends, ya know, the type of person who you see out sometimes and you talk on facebook occasionally, no feelings whatsoever. Well after about 2 years of knowing her, I randomly had a dream that we was alone in an abandon school type area (I have a very vivid picture in my head still of what it looks like) and we was getting really close in the dream itself, cuddling, kissing etc. The following morning I woke up and had somehow developed strong feelings for her and no matter how much I tried, I couldn't stop thinking about her. The only thing I could do was tell her, and long and behold, after about 2 weeks, we started dating, which lasted around 7 or 8 months. Weird huh?

tl;dr? listen to and follow your dreams, as sometimes they can lead to great things.

The only real hobbies I had when I was younger was playing video games and skateboarding, great times yet I kinda wish I started playing guitar or were into music at a younger age (started when I was 17). But either way, I rarely look back, I just see what the future holds and am grateful for what I know. :)

So I recently got into Cave Story (Yes.. where have I been, right?) and I'm just wondering if there are ways to create some kind of save feature similar to the one in that game by saving the position within a level alongside things like coins and what kind of power-up you have at the time. (I'm sure I saw something similar to this within SMW last year sometime but I can't remember where)

That's the thing! I was just wondering if there was a patch or block out that has this feature? Using a midway wouldn't be enough, as I plan on, in fact, creating a hack similar to Cave Story with just one big level and no overworld.

Wow, Linkiejj that's definitely different! Theres some parts I really like and some I dislike, mainly being the volume of the instruments, they could do with altering to not sound so intense at parts. Other than that, it's definitely unique.

Here is a Dubstep track I have been working on recently:

EDIT: This is Kc btw, no idea what's happened to my username.

Thanks for the feedback, TCMOREIRA, love how it goes from bad to good haha (coincidently they go in the order of when I made them too, I guess this shows I'm getting better :D) I'll take the comments on board!

If anyone is interested in dubstep (I assume there's a few of you on here) then here is a track I've been working on for a bit:

Once again, feedback is much appreciated!

Broozer, old friend! I have to say, you have a very unique style, and I love it! I especially like how the eyes in a lot of the pictures stand out a lot and give them a very.. again unique look. Awesome stuff man!

Thanks for the kind words Broozer, by the sounds of it, I'm on my way to converting you into a happy-go-lucky dubstep kinda guy! ;)

Anyway, here's something I recently finished:

Tranquil Reef (Soundcloud)
Tranquil Reef (Youtube)

Lava Reef (from S&K) arrangement/remix that's heavily based on piano amongst a few other things. Feedback is always appreciated, cheers! :)

Thanks BlackMage, I appreciate the comment!

Here's an update to the track, in which I basically extended the section before the ending and tweaked a few panning, as well as cutting back on about 25 reverb on the pianos to "de-muddify" it.

May as well throw this in here too:

Tranquil Reef (Soundcloud)

A remix of Lava Reef from Sonic & Knuckles for the Genesis. I think I may try it out for OCRemix once I'm fully happy with it, which is not too far off I think, I'm just tweaking things here and there to try get it sounding as good as I can.

@Sonikku

That looks rather interesting, I'm imagining all that working together, I get the jist, but maybe you could throw together a quick video, I'm curious to see how my mind portrayed it and how wrong I am xD

Before I go onto commenting the screens, welcome to the forums. (Even though I'm merely a shadow around here often)

Anyway, what you have shown here isn't exactly anything special, although I see no major clashes with the graphics, however, the mushroom in the first screen seems a little bright compared to the rest of the level.

The overworld screenshot looks alright as it is although it is a little flat looking. Maybe you could add a few more elevated areas here and there to give it more variation. The square hole looks odd, I'm not sure if it's deliberate but it definitely looks out of place.

The gradient in the BG of the 3rd screen is nice, gives off a nice sunset vibe, everything else looks fine too.

Maybe a description would be nice to tell us what you plan on doing and give us an insight of how the game will play/differ from other hacks.

I'm gonna keep this short.

When I heard about this tragic event, I was in so much shock as to how a human being could do such a terrible thing, there are some truly evil people in the world and the word 'evil' doesn't even come close to what they really are.

I have composed a piece of music today that is dedicated to the victims of this unbelievably horrific act of nature, I hope the families and friends of the people who lost their lives can stay strong.

This is for you.

Hey guys, well I havent posted on here in a bit, as I've had numerous IRL stuff to do, as well as moving house, but I'm finally settled and glad to be getting back into composing full time!

Anyway, so as some of you may have seen, I posted 3 or 4 tracks that I was working on a few months ago entitled Project 4Squared in the 'musical creations sticky' and got some great feedback from you. Since then I've been gradually working on more tracks and tweaking old ones etc. I've finally decided to bring this project to a stop as I've exhausted my interest in it. So 9 tracks down the line I give you:

Project 4Squared (SoundCloud Set)

I'm working on a couple other musical projects now that may interest some of you guys in the form of video game music once again, this time going for a more 'semi-modern' organic sound, I'll keep you guys noted.

Wow Camerin, that DeepDance is beautiful, I can certainly see it in a water level for numerous games actually, not just SMWCP2. I love the classical vibes you give off on your pieces.

I've mentioned a new project I'm working on and here's the first couple of stepping stones I'm over-coming, that being finding a nice set of instruments and styles to keep the tracks nicely glued together in a similar sort of fashion.
