My opinion is simply that the series is slightly over-rated. It's a super neat concept I'm not denying that! I mean, the first one was pretty great because it was different and it was new and something people could really get behind and enjoy. But once the creator started milking the series it got sort of ridiculous.
Otherwise, it's birthed super neat fan-art, and fan-music.
Perhaps it has to do with people in the community wanting to have some sort of serious discussion and a set of standards, rather than say having shitposts everywhere?
If you see a shitpost, ignore it. Why do people have to make a big deal out of it? Besides, there was shitposting before the new policy, why is it a problem now?
I think it's partially an "image" thing. The staff mainly and some longtime users, would prefer that our forum not have so much in the way of shitposting that people begin to look down on the whole userbase, and eventually the entire site as whole. Sure, joke posts are good, they keep things upbeat and fun, but posting pointless bullshit just makes the forums more difficult to deal with, and more difficult to truly engage in. Some people want more intelligent conversations in certain circumstances instead of people just posting random garbage in order to get their post count up.
That being said, I hope we can find a happy medium between serious discussion, and the occasional funny post, without being reduced to straight up "shitposting."
