The Featured Hacks section has guided us to (generally) awesome hacks for a while now, why not make featured pages for things like ExGFX, Custom Music, etc? There are plenty of awesome submittions in those sections too, and they deserve to be given distinction just like any featured hack. Obviously the lists would be small for some time, but you'd have to start somewhere!

I'd have to agree with you on ExGFX, Ultimaximus. As far as music, what you hear most is what's popular from other video games, though higher-grade hacks tend to diversify more. All in all, ExGFX may not do as good with a featured section as Music or Tools. As for Blocks, Sprites, & Patches, I have no idea.

Microsoft Person says: "That would be copying Nintendo! They might sue us! I am being a sarcastic jerk!" (Ok, maybe he'd just be thinking that last part).

But yeah, that's what I think they'd say.

That's a good switch palace, but I do have one question: Why is the switch at the end to only yellow object in the area? I think it would a good idea to make some areas more yellow. Otherwise, great job!

With Blanco Sunny Hill, it looks good aside from the problems mentioned already. However, I think the secret exit could be through one of the pipes at the last part of the level. The place where it is now could have a powerup or a whole bunch of coins.

did you remember to dirst extract the normal GFX and insert them again? with ExGFX, this causes bad glitchy gfx when you didn't.

what do you mean by dirst? and I will try to see if putting the map16 on different pages will help.

I believe he mistyped first, considering that the F & D keys are right next to each other.

And before you start randomly putting in Map16 blocks, you should only insert blocks in pages 0x3-0xF, and backround graphics in pages 0x13-0x1F, because you may overwrite other blocks and graphics if you start inserting on any other page.

Well, if you die with this time limit setting, the TIME UP! screen still appears.

However, I don't think I get it... The goal is just to survive the short trials that are the levels, right? I'm thinking that this will be a short hack if it's only two worlds (just saying). Still, it's a fresh, original concept that looks rather fun! Good work!

@grishnax: Not bad. The difficulty looks about right and I like the music and graphics, but the level does look quite linear. No bonus rooms or Yoshi Coins to challenge a more skilled player? Good job so far though.

@MarioFan22: What a great idea you have there, it's almost like you have two levels in one! The only thing that bugs me are the translucent sprites in the first part; it just doesn't feel right to me. However, I think that your level could goes a ways up the ratings! Keep up the good work!

Well, I don't think you can do much with the sprite Mario can fire without custom sprites or patches, since no one has really looked into that. Shooting Baby Yoshis could be problematic in ghost houses, castle levels, boss fights, and any level with a Yoshi in it (which would be every level in this case). What were you thinking of in particular?

No, I believe you throw Baby Yoshis. How about you actually look at it?

Ok, I'll look at the powerup to see if it makes you throw Baby Yoshis, which having more than 1 onscreen can cause many hack-removing glitches (and that's on normal levels).

@Chachii: You know, I don't think you have anything to lose if you backup your ROM and try it. For all I know, that patch might actually preform that Hex edit!

If it doesn't work, we can always get into the details of how you applied that patch.

EDIT: @2technogeeks: I'm not talking about a cannonball that has the graphics of a Baby Yoshi. As mentioned before, I was talking about the actual sprite. Either way, it's in an IPS file which would mean that the ROM would have to be completely gutted before a proper insetrion can begin on a Clean ROM, then another insertion of all the gutted materials.

Was it an IPS patch? If it was, then it will only work on a Clean ROM. To get it to "work" with your hack, you'll have to export all of the levels and palettes you've made (use the File menu) and re-insert them to the patched ROM along with any other custom materials you used.

The ROM was clean. You even quoted that...

It didn't work on his edited, not-clean ROM.

Anyways, that's the problem with IPS patches; you need to patch them at the start of your hack or you have to do all of this. I don't think getting freespace would help with an IPS patch (and I don't think you've inserted that much ExGFX). How does ExGFX crash the ROM anyways? How is it crashing?

Yes, you can! (though you can't import/export these palettes). Just click on the rainbow star just like in the level editor and choose which map's palette you want to edit.
