The keygen, just like level ender, has an issue where you meeting the sprite triggers the code and passing it or going back = clearing the screen of sprites. So put the keygen on the exact same screen as birdo and make it the end of the level. You can also use the path blocks (can't go back left...the first 4 blocks in blocktool) to prevent the player from going away from the birdo fight. Working on something!

Hacks based around glitches and being die every second hard turn out not fun. There is a difference between challenging and repetitive. If you want to try to make a hard hack, look at the ones that have comments about being hard and also have high ratings. Those are challenging more than not. Working on something!

Floating munchers = no
Use Gorodos (custom sprite) or a hurt block (custom block) to replicate the feel of munchers.

they both hurt you on collision

Yes, since munchers also hurt you from the sides and below.

I actually wondered the same thing because I have graphics for Baby Bowser, but I wish I had asm and cfg to boost him to not get cape or fire, and take 5 hits on head. Working on something!

Koopa Kid battles can't be altered, so you need ASM for that.
You can download a Boo that turns into a door custom sprite and use part of the code to turn the boss sprite into a door.

Ersanio has the right idea, patch and draw with YY-CHR.

There was a guy with Sonic as Mario sprites in his hack, but you have to ask to use them.

This is pretty cool!
The only thing I would like is maybe give a link to a binary editor in the tutorial because I am trying to find one (you can give me a link, get the hint?)

Still, I know the arrows work...and can't wait to see what else is made.

It is more unfair since most of the time the player can't see it coming. Now if you did something like "don't go down this pipe", the player goes down the pipe, and force death...then it would be ok because you warned them.

So it depends on the situation, don't force deaths when the player can't see it coming.

1) Go to custom sprites section
2) Download the Boo Boss sprite in the custom sprite section
3) Change ASM file so HP is 6
4) Insert with spritetool
5) You are done!

It has been years since Mario defeated Bowser and the Koopa Kids in Super Mario World. Since then, the Toads have populated the island and the landscape has shifted. Star Road has transformed into Star Haven. Everything seemed to go fine under the rule of the new princess the toads appointed.

Mario gets a call that his old friend Yoshi was kidnapped! He was taking care of seven eggs. The eggs and Yoshi were both gone. The Toads did not want to mess with Bowser's minions, so they accepted the fate. One Toad decided to call Mario and he was captured by Bowser shortly after.

Mario takes a ship and arrives at the dock of Yoshi's Paradise (The new name of the island) and the Toads are glad to see him. Mario must find out what happened to his old friend. If he doesn't, then Bowser and his newly born son will have the upper hand.

Custom sprites, graphics, blocks, bosses, and more
Raccoon Mario takes flight
A mix of old and new school
8 worlds (9 including the hidden world) with bonus levels in them
Puzzles that will test your reflexes, fighting skills, or your brain

I will show some stages off here since you need screens.

The Arena: Bowser holds a contest for the strongest minion so they can join his forces. Unfortunately, Mario decides to enter to win back the Yoshi Egg.

The castle walls are filled with decay from the ocean.

Bonus Room: The classic bonus room with a new background to show off more Yoshi.

Sub-Zero Dive: Chemicals Bowser dumped in Mushroom Mountain have made the lake too cold for Mario to swim in. So he finds a submarine that the Koopa Army left behind.

Any advice is good. I want to make a good hack, and if you see something wrong, just say so. Otherwise, I won't know what to fix.

Luigi had to be removed from the title because he stars in the next game. I wanted this one to focus more on Mario.

Watch the thread for more updates.
I do plan to use ExGFX, but it is going to be in odd parts. I want the later levels to have it instead of earlier.

Also, thanks Zach for being the only one with real criticism.

I am sorry about The Arena colors, I had to use the default 0 so I could have Toads in the Castle. To make up for it, I will show screens of some other areas to show that it is the only bad looking one.

Bonus Level:

Special Stage:

Oh yeah, I did change the palette of the Arena.

Does this look any better?

New bonus layout, yay or nay?

The bar is actually your air supply. The level gimmick is that the current of the water is strong and Mario can't stay in it for long. It drains quick and recovers slowly, so you have to use the dolphins to get across.

It is easier than it sounds, I can finish with it on yellow each time.

Anyways, thanks for the support. I will be updating some levels with ExGFX (I have too many levels with the cold cave BG) and will post them soon.

I was glad to help out Kunio.

Anyways, it was a fun demo. The only problem I saw was Pokey could still move in the letter scenes. Still, it is better than what I could do. Keep it up!

I watched the video and a few things I have to say:

- Luigi's house is pretty good
- Some graphics are changed for the better

- The island is dull. It is square and no cliff edges. Also, the water isn't moving around. Try to spice up the design of the submap so it has more life.
- Kinda boring level design. I see some conflicting graphic issues that look awkward. Try fixing that.

Overall, it isn't bad, but it could improve. Keep working at it, you will get it.

Some issues I see:

- The girlie level has a really bad palette. Try fixing it.
- The background glitch is probably you made a horizontal level vertical. Try editing a normal vertical level.
- I am not a fan of the gray hills. Not a huge issues, but that is me.

Doesn't look that bad though...

I will keep that in mind, I did update the retro bonus stage.

The new BG is less pizazz, so it is easier to tell. I will work on changing the bonus graphics and edit this post when I do.

Just going to show off a bit of the early music work in the game.

***Updated Video***

Sorry about it being quiet, I have trouble recording straight game audio from my PC.

Also introducing Baby Bowser's Airship!

It can be used to backtrack easily or even access those levels you thought you couldn't get to...
