I'm encountering a problem with Secondary Entrances. I put one in my level (1D), and yet it teleports me to the Red Switch Palace's secondary entrance (11B). They don't have the same secondary entrance numbers, and all the other secondary entrances work as they should in the level. So any help here?

(This is the new account of aperson btw)

How do I get Carol's Doom's Wall sprite to work? The sprite works like intended, but the layer 2 disappears.

I decided to move my hack's thread over here, mostly so more people can get notified of it. Anyways, the status report.

World 4 is actually almost done. I have to implement the boss, however, and it's going to be a pain, mostly because I have to make custom GFX for it. This is the start of the level where the boss appears.

Yeah, I know the block isn't colored green ATM, but I don't really care right now.

The rest of the fixes include:

Overworld Fixes (Completed this)
Adding Coins To The W4 Levels (Not Started)
Start W5 Overworld (Layout generalized, Not added yet)

So yeah. World 4 probably coming out in the next week or so.

Hello, this is Aperson's new account, mostly moved due to wanting a Username Change, probably will use Aperson as a backup file account. I'm posting here because I made a new thread for the hack. So if you need any comments, post there.

The New Thread

I'm looking to work with a partner for this VLDC (my first one lol). Mostly cause I want to complete my level by the deadline, and really the only resource I can use right now is Wine Lunar Magic (because my main hacking laptop's getting fixed), and plus, I need all the help I can get. I have an idea in mind, and I can create like mini-rooms and spruce up the levels once the main-stays are done, but other than that, I can't really do much without it taking a lot of time.

tl;dr: I need a partner badly cause time constraints. Hopefully one who has experience with level design.

So I decided to participate in the VLDC this year, cause I didn't last year. I made a level called "Tower in the Gulf", which is mostly an underwater auto-scrolling level with a spike wall behind you. It's also extremely tight, so you better get used to Down+Bing, because without it, it's pretty much impossible. Unless you use cheatcodes. 1 level, 2 sublevels, 1 secondary entrance, 5 dragon coins, 1 midget female turtle, this level is the package if you want 1 underwater castle level. If not, then still play it (even though it's the biggest possibility this will be on the worst map :/)

(also ignore the text on the screenshots, don't really have the best computer ATM, and the screenshotting on this computer is pretty weird.)

Also, I'm gonna need the help of a partner, but just mostly to place coins in the level, add on the patches, fix some technical bugs, add custom music, and create the patch. Again, I don't really have the best computer, so I need someone to help me out here. If you want to help me iron out the flaws, just PM me. Just be sure to be competent in SMW hacking, please.

Here, have an ice level with a bit of water in it. Maybe it's enjoyable.

I decide to create a new level for the VLDC, as the previous one I made was way too unpleasant, in my opinion.

Here's the old level.

Now that I have a new computer, I've decided to create a new level, so now you have an ice castle. Again, betting this may be in the worst world (if it gets in at all), so don't get your hopes up.

I've finished the level, by the way, in case you want to play it. Warning though, it's hard. Not Kaizo-difficult, just something like JUMP, I guess.

For your ROM-Hacking needs.

Alright, so I'm going to need some level makers to help with the hack, because,

1. I can only think of so many ideas before my mind gets stale. I mean, I have levels planned for most of World 5, part of World 6, the final part of World 7, the Star World, and the Special World, but other than that, my mind's a blank.

2. Patching ended up messing up 3(!) of my levels. I fixed one, but the other 2, I can't be bothered. The patching ended up causing several sprites to change, and the palettes to completely screw up. (Bronze Badlands was the level I fixed, while the last part of Saffron Structure and Cream Chasm's second half were also affected.)

3. It can help finish the hack quicker, as I'm not really that motivated. I'm mostly focused on other things at the moment, so it would help me immensely.

If you agree, be sure to show me proof of your level-designing skills. If it's good enough, I'll accept you. You'll also get your name put in the credits as well.

So progress... I'm finally finished with the World 4 Castle. Why did it take me so long? Well first, I had to get my laptop fixed, which took around 2 weeks. When I got it back, I worked on my VLDCX entry, and after that, I worked on this. Then I had to find a boss sprite that worked, and that leads us up to date.

So yeah, hope anyone's interested. (Probably not, as no-one even responds to this thread :/)

I'm using message boxes in my hack, but for some reason, they come out blank in one of mym levels, despite me putting in messages for them. The other level I put them in doesn't have this problem, so what could be the reason?

Eg, if you enter level 105 from the OW, go to level 106 via a pipe and hit a message box there, it will still display the message of 105.

Ok, that was my error, thanks.

I'm working on porting the Web Spider theme from Megaman X4, and I've been having problems with it. I'm getting errors about the notes being too high, and I don't know how to fix it, as I'm relatively new to porting music.

As well as that, I'd like to know if there's anything else I need to fix on the port and how to fix it. Thanks in advance.

The N-SPC engine (at least that one from SMW and AMK) only allows you to play notes up to o6a (basically any note playing at octave 7 or higher doesn't work).
I recommend you to lower all octaves by one. Just search for "oX" where X is any number from 2-7 and replace it with "oY" where Y is X minus 1 (with Ctrl+H, that's it). Of course, this doesn't always work but in most cases, it should work.

And the reason, why you have to lower by one is because o4c of SNES equals to o5c MIDI (at least, that's what I hear).

Edit: Oh, and don't use #amm. That's intended for songs made for AMM but for new music, just port for AMK directly. Use "#amk 2" (without quotes, that's it).

It seems to work now, thanks.

So I finally managed to get most of the basics on porting down, and I managed to create this (and this uses the base SMW samples).

Hopefully this is isn't considered to be Hammer Brother Demo 3 vomit.

Also, any suggestions on where to put the intro command? Because I don't really know about placing intro commands and everywhere that I put it messes the song up.

I'm working on porting another music track, and it ended up sounding good... for the part that plays. It plays nothing for about a minute, then 46 seconds out of the 1 minute 2 second track, and then it mutes again for another minute before starting the 46 second interval, then it keeps repeating. So how do I end up fixing this? AMK didn't give me any errors, so I don't know what my problem is.

This is the track, for any troubleshooting.

So I'm working on a new hack, because I can never seem to complete ones I get actual work done in (Read: M.A.R.I.O, SMW: The Reign Of Bowser, and Toad's Grand Excursion). So this is an actual hack featuring everyone's favorite red plumber (who's appeared in about 500+ hacks by this point), Mario.

I plan for this hack to be 85 levels, 9 for each world, except the replacement for the Star World having 5, and the replacement for the Special World having 8. Definitely not going to be vanilla, as this is a very ambitious project I plan to complete.

As for right now, I don't have any levels completed, but I do have the basic layout of the World 1 (Shroom Shoreline) map done. No event tiles activated ATM, just the basic overworld paths.

Note, planning for the level above the fort and the fort to switch places. No switch palaces in the game (because I usually can't figure out good places to put the blocks themselves, and I'll just end up making it so you go through a short level, fight a reskinned Pix boss, and then get to the switch and beat the level), and probably going to change the bosses. Dragon Coins will be included for the first time in my hacks (except for a scrapped project of mine.) Levels will be recycled from scrapped projects (mostly from Toad's Grand Excursion and the scrapped project (despite only being around 3 4/5 levels completed)).

ExGFX: Yes
Custom Bosses: Yes
ASM: Yes
Custom Music: Yes
Pretty much anything except for HDMA: Yes

So yeah, talk about the hack and what needs to be improved and stuff like that.

I think the overworld is very square right now. The paths are pretty boring (doesn't help that they're all obvious from the start either) and the shape of the land isn't very interesting. Also, stretching the walls to the bottom edge of the screen instead of making them end in the ocean somewhere gives out the impression that the land is really really high, so keep that in mind. Don't be afraid to make it end in the ocean, perspective really isn't very hard to figure out.

So I did what you told me to, and I ended up with this.

Disregard the YOSHI'S HOUSE there, going to change it later. I think it's an improvement, but tell me what you think. Also, finished the title screen, intro level, and (most) of Yoshi's House.

So, in case you couldn't tell, this is basically a remake of my M.A.R.I.O. hack, this time with better levels, better story, better everything in general. Also disregard the bar on the top of the third image, I don't know how that got there, but it's probably a technical issue with the screenshot rather than the emulator or hack.

I'll have some time to work on the first level later, so yeah, hopefully I actually finish this. And no, this does not include intentionally bad message box typos, cutoff, flat levels, short levels, horses, Silent Bills, "horrible looking floating water that's glitchy", a broken overworld path, a short walkway, spikes you can stand on, a ROM file, and 20%. So see ya, maybe this won't turn out to be a train wreck.
