Sonic Adventure is game I have much nostalgia for. It was the first 3D game I'd had ever seen properly. Being in a poor family, I was stuck with the Super Nintendo up until the day I got the Dreamcast back in 1999. I remember distinctly coming home from school one day. My dad announced he bought a new Sega Dreamcast with Sonic Adventure. I was shocked and delighted. I could not believe my eyes.
We hooked it up. The Dreamcast swirl animation played, I squealed with utter delight. The FMV was totally badass. (Who would have thought a blue hedgehog could look cooler than an Italian plumber that takes shrooms & throws hammers?) I always remember the quote Sonic says when you pick him on the character select screen. He says "Let's get down!" And I couldn't agree more. I got to explore fully 3D environments for the first time in my life. There were beaches, theme parks, casinos, cities, temples, airships, ruins, ski resorts, you name it. It was an incredible experience. And to top it all off, you even had your own personal pets called a Chaos. Which you could take with you on the go, thanks to the VMU.
This game is a masterpiece, I love it. I hope you people at SMWCentral appreciate the game as much as I do. Please feel free to share your own experiences.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
It's interesting to see how you don't let nostalgia blind you from the game's flaws. It's something I'm probably blinded by myself. I'm also actually sad to hear they made the second game worst from what you described.
