Hello, I am now subjecting you to my love child I've been working on for 4 days atleast called The Nine Power Trinkets. It will have completely redrawn/reripped SMW graphics, custom music, possibly a custom sample group which will make unsampled songs sampled, decent level design and more.

PLOT:
Bowser has stolen all 9 power trinkets, and Mario has to find them in the middle of nowhere.

SCREENSHOTS (Sorry for the dirt tile cutoffs, I'll fix them eventually):

(I'll make the piranha plant SMB3 styled)

(Showing off my reripped/redrawn OW graphics)

Thanks Katerpie! The level design picks up steam after the very beginning though.

The rocky tilesets look good. I really like the SMW grass hedge in the wall mixed into cave settings. I am going to agree with Katerpie but add in that I think it's the HDMA gradient that's too dark. It should be reduced in opacity (notice when Mario's on the bridge, it's hard to see the bridge at all, and then think of how noticeable pitfalls and enemies are going to be) and I think deeper background colors should express the darkness of the level without obstructing the game play. I like the palette work in the first screenshot on that KDL3 background to fit with a mountain setting. Is this hack going to be more "classic" in platforming? That's the vibe I'm getting and I like that kind of hack.

Font in the OW touches the border, and while it's not that big of a deal since it's still easy to read, using 7x7 of the 8x8 space will prevent text from running into things. The grassy textures on the OW are neat and subtle. The map is very stony-green and I'm wondering if any of the ripped accessories are going to have some color to liven it up a little. There are some perspective errors in the top-left cliff, top-center cliff, right side of the lake, and north of the clusters of trees/hills. I do find it strange how all the action is shoved off to the very edge of the map instead of right in the middle unless you are planning to have Mario be able to access different corners of it for future levels.

It's definitely going to be classic platforming with a few gimmicks here and there.

About the HDMA darkness, I promise that I'll dial it down, as for the perspective errors, can you point them out please, I can't really see them. The SMB3 decorations are less lively so they can fit in.

Sure. It's a harder thing to describe in words when it's a visual thing:

overworld

Upon closer inspection, some of the grass edge tiles' border fill pixels are brown against grass, and green against cliff tiles, but it's very hard to tell right now given the light palettes.

Thank you very much!

As you can see, this is a C3 preview of my magnum opus as you could say, the Nine Power Trinkets, my greatest romhack to date (atleast I hope so). Below are some screenshots.

I have a lot of screenshots and it would be annoying to embed them all, so I compensated and made an imgur album.

EDIT: Any cutoffs, lack of polish or anything of that matter is temporary and I will fix it once I release a demo.

You hack have a good mix of GFX, but i wonder... and the plot? It's about 9 worlds, 9 kings, 9 trinkets, etc? I'm curious.
Keep it up!

Thank you everyone for the compliments, I must say that I'm quite humbled by the positive attention this hack's been getting.

NAME: Descent - Track 8 - Mars Processing Station
SAMPLED: I'd like sampled, since I don't know if it's even possible to pull off without samples

note that you'd possibly have to modify the midi and tempo a lot, since it relies heavily on very small notes, but the midi tempo is also extremely low

Definitely Half-Life 2. My favourite in the Far Cry series was Far Cry 4, since it took everything that was good in Far Cry 3 and made it better. I do also like the Metro games.

I do also like Minecraft because of the creative aspect, survival is pretty fun though, even though I suck at it.

It looks pretty nice, I especially like the scrolling BG you have there! Only gripe is that it could be a bit more readable. 8/10 for me.

The design itself is nice, but the functionality is simply not there. I'll give it a 7/10, since it's still a very creative layout.

Mine is easily Doom Eternal, I haven't played the 2016 reboot, and I was pleasantly surprised when I played Doom Eternal, slashing demons has never been more fun before in Doom.

If the full game of Black Mesa coming out of early access in 2020 counts, then that for sure. The Xen chapters have some of the most lavish scenery porn in the whole game and the soundtrack is ethereal. The only other game I can think of that I've played that came out this year is the Switch version of Superliminal, which is trippy AF and kinda reminds me of Antichamber and Stanley Parable.

I'm extremely tempted to say "Half-Life Alyx" but I haven't bought or played it yet cuz I need VR (which is uncomfortably expensive), and even if I did buy a VR kit, I hope it wouldn't be too complicated to set up (my room is mildly cluttered and small). The fact that there's an official Half-Life game that I haven't played yet bothers me, even if it's not exactly Half-Life 3.
I'm also extremely tempted to say "Silksong" but that hasn't come out yet. If it does come out in 2020 Imma update this post.

I understand the HL: Alyx situation, VR is expensive and my system is basically the minimum system requirements system, but a slightly better GPU and more RAM

This thread has been dead for a LONG, LONG time (actually 2 months, but that is kinda long), I've been completely reworking this hack. Instead of the traditional hack it was, it's not a very gimmicky hack. It's not a JP hack homage.

A lot of the music will be selfported, due to me getting back into porting again. I'm also going for a far different graphic style. Instead of SMB3 style graphics I'm going for "SMW Redrawn Redrawn"
