I'd like to request a block, that when you hit it from below, it changes the file the game reads mario's GFX from (and change the pallete if possible).
So when I would hit the block, it would read mario's gfx from for example Exgfx 80 instead of Gfx 32 or whatever mario's gfx/exgfx file is at that moment.
I know roy made a patch to change mario's gfx on level base, but I'd like to have it that you can choose your character by hitting a block.
So I could basicly have a level with a sort of "character select" blocks and when I hit one of the blocks and then go to another level it still uses ExGFX<insert number here> for mario that the block gave me.
The game doesn't need to remember it on reset tough.
It would be nice if it was easy editable as in: easily changing what Exgfx the block changes it into.
And if it had a walk/go through variant aswell (going through the block to change the character).
While SMWC was down, I made my own titlescreen for the romhack I'm working on:
It's the first time I ever tryed to get a normal picture into smw.
I think it worked out well.
It uses up 3 ExGFX files.
It took me about 7 hours to achieve this tough.
I think I'll fill it up a bit more with a FG later on (and fix that black line).
Also, is it just me or is smwc alot faster then before?
Is there any list of which soundbank replaces what instrument and has influences on which sounds? (In the SMWS tool)
It could help me alot instead of guessing by randomly changing the sounds in the soundbank.
Thanks alot for the list! This will really become usefull.
@holz: If I'm correct, I saw a smw song actually using more samples (the smw remix with mario saying Ya! and yahoo). It's probaly possible by having some extra entries in your song.txt (But I have no idea how tough).
Yes, that song is exactly what I mented.
It seems that song uses Sample 15-28 (Normaly not used in any smw song) in some way. I saw some odd stuff in the txt of it, so it probaly has some hex or asm to redirect those samples to the song.
@ Ludwig: To insert that song you'll need the N-SPC patch (more.asm), and you'll have to use Addmusic RevX. There is a tutorial that covers both here.
Also, you will need to use SMWS0.53 (Found in the tool section) for assigning the sound bank (so you hear mario's YA! etc.)
SMWS is pretty easy to use (the program will ask you to point to free space in the rom to be able to use it, so you might need to extend your rom if you dont have enough space).
That mario song came with a soundbank file. All you need to do is import the sound bank, and assign it to the correct level.
Well, while smwcentral was down I was in the mood to hack.
So, I learned to rip graphics, exanimating, map16 + 8x8 tiles stuff and also some other stuff.
I ripped a part of the SMB1 1-1 FG, animated SMB 1 blocks and coins with their original palletes and I made an epic title screen.
I also finally got the Left4Dead Nothing Special achievement by clearing the no mercy campaign on easy with no teammates at all.
And yes I did use a glitch in the last level but who cares. I was glad I made it anyway after so much attempts.
I should've made use of the downtime by forcing myself to go outside aswell, but I wasn't in the mood for that so I didn't.
This looks very interesting.
Is this harder then smw rom hacking?
Else Im going to try it in the future (When I hack my wii with that zelda game thing).
Maybe if possible even modeling. I haven't started on that yet, but I'd love to just learn modeling for brawl.
One of my first attempts to make a palette.
It's a dark pallette. Not only did I change the FG and BG pallete,
I also changed the Sprite palletes to give it the feeling that it's evening,
and that rain fell not that long ago.
It's not done yet, I'll probaly make the palletes a bit darker.
I might make the status bar dark aswell.
Also, ignore the cement blocks. I forgot to make them darker.
That status bar is nice. Just like in dkc.
I think you should replace the coin with a small banana icon tough (the coin at the status bar).
You are collecting banana's after all.
Also, isn't that theme from the lava levels from dkc2?
You can't go from AMD to intel. They use a different socket (You'll need another motherboard if you want to use an intel processor).
You can upgrade to another new processor, assuming the motherboard can handle that new AMD processor and you don't have an onboard processor.
Also if you ever buy a new processor for your laptop, be carefull. Mostly when you open up a laptop you'll lose the warranty for it.
Your computer seems to have ok specs for zsnes. I myself used to have an old computer that had 1000 mb ram and a single core 2.1 Ghz + Geforce 7600 (It used to have 512 mb ram and a geforce 4, but I remember using zsnes 1.51 on that too). It runned fine (I used Windows XP tough).
I'd say try tone the resolution down a bit, and don't use fullscreen. Check if that works. Else you could check if there's any updates for your video card drivers.
I saw Kaspersky is a good one and used it. I'd recommend it (If you want to pay for your anti virus).
I've had macaffee aswell (The enterprise 8.5i, don't ask how I got it ). It doesn't detect all virusses but it sure runs lightly on the background (I didn't even notice it at all when it was scanning).
As for free anti-virus programs:
I used avast and AVG. They are both good. Tough I would recommend Avast over AVG. It might be heavier but it's nice. And I haven't found a normal way to shutdown AVG since version 9.0 (except for prompting it not to start it up at computer startup).
As for anti-spyware, I'd recommend spybot search and destroy, and spywareblaster.(It has a nice database of sites known for having alot spyware and also some unwanted and dangerous sites. It auto-blocks them in IE and firefox).
I'd recommend looking on the internet for some virus scanner comparism tests aswell. Especially if they got feedback on everything. That might make it easier to find a scanner that suits you.
1 last thing to this pretty long post: You can have multiple scanners, but then only 1 may be an active. The others have to be a scan & delete virusses only. Not a fully all time running program.
Some glitches are actually quite accepted, like climbing a vine while holding a item. But I'd say be carefull for not putting in too difficult glitches.
Depending on what kind of hack your making, I think it could compensate. If your making a Kaizo hack, then have no mercy at all and throw in whatever you like .
If your making a normal hack tough and would like to get it accepted on SMWcentral, I'd say keep glitching to a minimum and don't use glitches that most people aren't aware of.
Don't use them alot aswell.
