Apologies to the creator for taking so long on writing this up.

I want to say first off that I love the willingness to redraw all the sprites and just the creativity in a lot of the levels. The first couple levels are borderline standard, but things quickly start ramping up, which I enjoy. One that stands out as just really cool is the Green Shell Palace.

One big thing is that the second overworld, after the first castle, is a very lightly edited vanilla overworld. I highly suggest making your own, though this isn't an immediately rejectable thing. The third overworld is also just a slightly edited Vanilla Dome overworld.

In the level "Verlaten Pizzeria," you can skip a lot of the second half by just holding a shell in the blue Yoshi's mouth and flying to where you need to go. The graphics in this level also make it a little hard to see what's things are, but it's not a huge concern.

In "Ice Capes," you can fly or run over the second half of the level if you ascend through the gap in the ceiling.

The level "Factory Flee" lets you run over the top and skip what seems like a majority of the level.

As a general note, some of the boss fights have tacos as both items you can pick up and throw and sprites that hurt you. The fight in "Het Vieze Kasteel" comes to mind, and there might be another? I don't believe there's a visual difference between these tacos. Ultimately, it's not difficult to differentiate them, as the ones you can pick up last longer, but I wonder if there's an easy way to make them more readily identifiable.

Again, sorry for the delay, and I look forward to the resubmission. Take care.

Taddy was in my stream and has already made a bunch of the necessary changes, but for posterities sake:

You can still fly over "Ice Capes" at the beginning of the second half, in the one-tile gap where the on/off blocks are.

You can also shell jump over the wall at the end of "Breaking In" and skip a bunch of the level.

I think this'll be very quickly fixed up and resubmitted. Very, very fun hack that's been made better from revisions since my last playthrough.

Hey, wonderful little level/hack here. I have to reject it for a couple reasons though. The first is that the section with the baby yoshi can just be cheesed by getting p-speed and jumping to the spring, then just spring jumping to the spot below the green pipe.

The second is that, in the section where you're throwing the spring upward in order to keep the bomb bouncing in the air and not hitting the blocks that blow said bomb up, you can spring jump or p-speed jump over the top-left and softlock yourself. Because there's no start-select to exit or timer, it's a legitimate softlock that requires a console/game reset.

Also, I don't know if the Yoshi house on the overworld is supposed to be accessible. I saw the readme file that takes care of the credits, but I think there being more than the one level that appears accessible is a tad confusing. Not a big issue in itself though.

Looking forward to the resubmission.

Description: Hi everyone!!! This small hack (8 exits + 2 bosses + credits = 11 exits) was intended as a showcase/introduction for players that know SMW and want some kaizo experience but not too much spicy. The showcases was for the SpeedGaming Español twitch channel.

The level desing is with multiple checkpoints so it should be 5-15 minutes long for the target players, less than 5 for experimented kaizo players.

There are different text boxes to help with some maybe obscure detail for a non-kaizo player. Therefore, there are 2 versions, the Spanish version (as for the SGES channel) and the English for the text boxes.

Howdy. I enjoyed the levels, but can't accept this as is.

The biggest issue is that the first five levels, as noted in the submission notes, are the same as Season 1, which is already in our hacks listing. When we talked in DM, I recommended submitting the seasons separately (a la Romhack Races season compilations), but that also means not including all of the levels from season 1 in the season 2 compilation. The two options are:

1. resubmit this as an update to season 1 and with the title something like "Seasons 1 + 2"

2. submit this as just season 2 and include only the last half of the levels

I just want to avoid a redundancy where the entirety of one hack is included in another hack.

Now some smaller things that weren't reject-worthy on their own, but which could use some changing:

- The second overworld is Vanilla Dome with the progression of levels slightly altered. We'd prefer things not to be so explicitly just vanilla edits.

- The exit count is wrong. After beating all the levels, even though there are 11 of those, you end with 10 exits. This one does require changing.

- I cheesed my way through "hanging palace." Even with the rope glitch patch, you sometimes can still activate rope glitch by holding right. I don't know why it works in some levels and not others or anything like that, but it's consistent when it's available, and I skipped the entire level.

Overall, I enjoyed the season 2 levels and was able to quickly breeze through the season 1 levels again. Just a few fixes and then I imagine there'll be an acceptance.

Description: One day Lumi the Goblin woke up and realized she was STARVING, so she decided to walk down to the local supermarket to see if they had any gyros. This is her story.

This is a semi-difficult Kaizo light hack. If you had to ask I'd say maybe a 6/10 or so? Its hard to define difficulty for kaizo hacks, its all in the eye of the beholder. Well I am bad at Kaizo Mario, and this is about a 6. So hopefully that'll inform your download choice.

The levels in this hack are usually built around a gimmick or concept. The hack itself is rather chocolatey, though the gimmicks are USUALLY less in ASM and more in sprites and interesting level design. My goal in this hack (and most hacks) is to get people to go "WHAT THE HECK" as soon as they see a level (though usually use a word different than heck), then find out they really like the level anyway

Just as last time, I am not a Kaizo player. I'm not even really a Mario player. So all my stuff is a little weird for your typical Kaizo sensibilities. I've been told it feels like "Kaizo from an alternate universe where all the sensibilities are slightly different".

Things this hack has:

Goblins
Trashcans
96 fugumannen (Yes, 96 different fugu. Its my favorite sprite.)
Chocolatey design
Gyros (hopefully!)
Some humor, depending on how much of a fuddy duddy you are.
No trolls or deadly kaizo blocks. Mischief is fun, trolls are not.
A secret room in every single level, the "Murr Room" of that level

SPECIAL THANKS:

Thanks to Arcadia(@neonarcadia) for the custom sprite and art for Lumi. Thanks to Glitchcat7 and Marcy August for playtesting. Thanks for Amethyst_Rocks for playtesting and looking at my levels as I made them and telling me to just stop already, which tempered a few levels. You should thank her too. Trust me.

Please enjoy!

This is getting a rejection for a few reasons. The primary one is that I was able to cheese the first half of the dolphin level and one exit of "Dustin Hoffman Thinks About Eating Soap." In addition, the first room of the final boss sometimes takes you back to the beginning of the same sublevel based on which screen you collect the 75th coin on. I got stuck on a loop and essentially softlock afaik.

For smaller things, there's also cutoff on the overworld, a lot of levels could use some nerfs (the author watched my moderation stream), and the final boss could use a checkpoint or something to make it less of an endurance (4 room coin-collecting that took me 3+ minutes once I started going faster).

I know the author wants to resubmit this ASAP with fixes, so I'm writing this quickly. Good luck.

- Level design is engaging and is able to keep the player active

The level also has no exit, so the exit count is wrong.

So, let's talk about this. I completely understand that you're starting out with Lunar Magic and trying to make a hack either for others or for yourself to work on double shell jumps. That's awesome. I also get that this is a demo for said hack, meaning that it's not going to be the full length and is instead an in-progress work. Also cool.

The big thing here is that demos still need to adhere to the core values of the site, which include the following relevant examples, among others:

Quote

The hack has enough time of gameplay per single run (generally, a hack of 2 short levels is not enough, though story and cutscenes will be taken into account)
Levels are distinguishable from one another in design quality
Level design is engaging and is able to keep the player active

For the full list of our core values, please look here

We do accept even single-level hacks, but those levels take experienced, highly skilled players upwards of a couple hours to beat, tallying 45+ seconds for the clear attempt itself. This entire hack, in comparison, took me something like 5-10 seconds per level, one attempt each. The idea of "enough time of gameplay per single run," while subjective, is imo not met here. Going along with this, the levels were actually the same, with the exception of the 1f0 tile and the moved shell in the "double shell jump EZ" level. It's hard for me to say that something doesn't objectively meet the criteria for "engaging," but given what I just said, I think it's understandable to say it doesn't clear that bar.

There are other things to talk about as far as hard-and-fast rejections, but honestly I don't think that's the point right now. Let me list them just to get them out though: the levels you made, when beaten, still take you to other levels (EZ takes you to the Yellow Switch Palace, which is the vanilla level and the non-EZ level takes you to Yoshi's Island 3, which is also the vanilla level). The overworld pathing for both level clears is broken (see included picture below). Less severely, the overworld is just the vanilla overworld, and the title screen is unchanged.

The point I'd like to get across here is that we would like even demos to be more substantial than this. A demo on the site is supposed to be more of an enticing piece of larger project to make the player anticipate the finished hack. This felt instead like it was submitted when you had a couple levels drafted and you wanted some feedback. The desire for feedback is great, and I applaud it sincerely, but submitting here for that purpose isn't the best plan or use of our moderators' time.

As a side note, there is actually a Discord server for the purposes of testing and feedback, which I invite you to use:

Overall, this hack is well on its way to acceptance. There are some minor things to point out, which I'll do at the end of this write-up, but the biggest thing is the major difficulty spike in the level, "The Big Green Thing." The pipe entrance at the end of the first room is significantly harder than anything else in the hack, and it took me a lot of time and attempts to get what ultimately felt like a lucky re-landing on the platform to enter the pipe. Especially with the amount of level both before and after that trick, it was outside of the range of the rest of the hack.

I actually went back with save states to check how difficult it was just now, and it was still a 10% or a 20% chance when I had a strategy down to catch the platform.

One other frequent issue is cutoff throughout the hack, which I'll point out with images here.

A couple other, smaller things that stick out in the following levels:

That Water One: the midway entrance is set to be from a pipe, but there's no pipe there.

One Slippery Slide: you can clip into this ceiling.

There are probably some other, small things I'm forgetting, but it, again, it was really just the difficulty in the one level and maybe the amount of cutoff that kept this from acceptance.

Hi. The biggest issues here are the softlock in this relatively late (I think) room.

And the fact that the saves don't work unless you explicitly save and exit in the rooms with the save blocks.

The creator was in the stream for the moderation, saw the issue, and is going to fix the issues as well as give the whole hack another once- or twice-over for additional softlock potential.

I've been working on this hack for six months. This hack does not use quality of life patches, also note that this hack might not be for everyone, things such as RNG and tricks similar to the Kaizo trilogy are used.

Back in 2007 T.Takemoto made Kaizo Mario World as a challenge for his friend R.Kiba, over time it gained popularity as two more sequels came out and even gained it's own genre under "Kaizo" name, which birthed many hacks such as GPW2,Invictus,Storks, and many more, I hoped to have captured the same feeling as the kaizo series.

Thanks to Ezel for testing.

I regret having to reject this one, actually, but there are a couple nasty soft locks, one of which was intentional, with no way to start-select out or anything like that.

They appears in the levels "Eating Habbits" and "Hot Cave Garbage" and can be seen in the following screenshots.

While the latter soft lock seems to have been included to mimic the Kaizo Trilogy in some way, it's worth noting that those hacks were 'grandfathered' into being accepted onto the site, as far as I'm aware. Many of the issues in the hacks were found insignificant when weighed against the influence of those hacks overall. This is all to say please still don't soft lock the player.

In addition, while this isn't cause for rejection on its own, this message box in "Sea E" doesn't have a message. I'm including it here because I think it's accidentally, though I could be wrong. In that case, sorry about that.

This hack bends or breaks a couple of the core values:

Quote
The hack has enough time of gameplay per single run (generally, a hack of 2 short levels is not enough, though story and cutscenes will be taken into account)

The first level is of substantial length, though there are some concerns with the screen not scrolling for the opening jumps off the ball-and-chains. After this though, the Yellow Switch Palace and the final level are both significantly shorter. I recommend both expanding the second and third levels, but also cleaning up/revising the first level.

Quote

Clean use of graphics (e.g. avoiding 'cutoff', 'glitched sprites', and 'background garbage')

The biggest issue here is the event when you complete the first level includes a lot of layer 1 background garbage from the vanilla game. You can either delete that or change the event that the level activates upon clear.

As a side note, it was a little confusing to find the Yellow Switch Palace, as I don't believe a level clear event directly activated the path? I could be wrong on that, but it would help either to make the overworld pathing more evident or to make each even take Mario to the next level on the overworld.

The Story:

‘Twas the night before Halloween, and all through the Mushroom Kingdom and Peach’s Castle, not a creature was stirring – not even a Mouser. Mario has fallen asleep, only to be awakened with a sense of dread. Mario makes his way to the mirror, and to his dismay, finds that he has transformed into his 1990s nemesis: Sonic the Hedgehog. After much pacing and shock, Mario decides that this has to be a dream, much like Super Mario 2. Unfortunately, Mario is mistaken. He must take on this new challenge and complete this hack by dawn, November 1st. Help Mario save his dignity and reclaim his place at the top of the video (see: vid’ya) game empire!

Throughout his journey, Mario will encounter foes old and new: namely, his old pal Kamek. You see, it seems that Kamek is responsible for the spell that Mario has fallen victim to. Kamek has also used his magic to bring back some of Mario’s past enemies as well.

This journey is for the bold – have ye what it takes? I hope you enjoy the hack, and I welcome all feedback! Let’s save the Mushroom Kingdom!

Some issues throughout the hack include the cutoff graphics, cheesing the end of "Welcome to the Tomb" by walking over the floating munchers with Yoshi, the broken overworld event upon completing "Kamek's Splash Pad," confusing blocks (the ones with up arrows on them in a few levels that are usually used as booster sprites), and palettes are are hard to make out ("Tower of Terror" comes to mind). I'm including a couple pictures of what I mean.

Cheesing over top of munchers:
