Have you tried using Wine, Wine Bottler, or even the Terminal version of Wine? You could also try Play On Mac
Good luck :)

I've been making ROM hacks for only a few months now, so sorry if my questions sound stupid...
EDIT: I probably should have clarified this, but the ROM only crashes whenever I try to play Gnarly.

Hi all, I am working on a ROM hack that utilizes the special world (similar to worldpeace's Cool or Cruel hack). Whenever I try to play one of the Special World levels, the ROM crashes, and I even tried deleting everything in the Gnarly level and playing it, and it still didn't work. This is not an issue in any other levels.
While this isn't too much of an inconvenience (there are plenty of other levels to replace the Special World levels), it would be nice to know if there's a solution to this.

It's hard to really provide a solution without some more information about your situation. Most likely, if the crash occurs even after deleting everything in the level, then it's probably related to some patch you've applied, so it might help to give a list of what ones you've applied.

If it's related to specifically Gnarly, it may be an UberASM thing if you've inserted anything through that. Alternatively, since Gnarly's a vertical level, it may be something related to vertical levels (check with some other ones, like level 109 aka VD2).

If necessary, you may also want to consider porting to a new ROM. It's not especially difficult (unless you've inserted a bunch of patches without keeping track of what ones), and may help avoid any issues related to this from cropping up down the line.

Thanks for the advice. I tried playing 109 and it crashed, so it must be vertical levels that have the problem.

I've been keeping track of the patches I've used on my hack. I only used Asar, not UberASM.

The patches I used are the Lava Fix patch, the Asar Patch, the No More Sprite Tiles patch, the patches that cause a sound whenever you run and turn around, the camera fix patch, and worldpeace's retry patch.

If nothing comes of this, I'll just port everything to a new ROM, but it sounds like a hassle (I've used a lot of custom music and ExGFX), so that'll be a last resort.

By "camera fix" do you mean this one? Because that one shouldn't be applied to a hack using LM v3.00+, as LM adds it in itself.

Otherwise, if you want to check your patches real quick, try taking a fresh ROM and just applying the patches to it. Then enter a vertical issue and see if it still crashes.

Also, porting ExGFX/music basically just takes a couple of clicks. You should still have all your ExGFX and music on hand, so all you need to do is run AMK/click #lm{insexgfx} with the new ROM to insert them.

I'll try this. Thanks!

Hi all, I was wondering on how to change the tileset of sprites in a level, i.e. using Castle sprites in a Rope 2 level.
I tried changing the tileset of the sprites by clicking the purple poison mushroom icon #lm{gfxby} and changing the Sprite GFX to Castle, but that didn't work...

You may have to change the GFX files directly through the #lm{sgfxby} menu. There, check the box for "enable Super GFX Bypass" if not already checked, and then you can freely select GFX files to be loaded.

For reference, you can see the files loaded into the normal graphics sets in the #lm{gfxby} menu; you'll notice the dropdown options contain the same "SP1", "SP2", etc. values as seen in the super GFX bypass. Just copy those values over to load the proper set. You can also find in the sprite selection menu (#lm{sprites}), when looking at the tileset-specific sprites, there will be things like "SP4=02" in the top left corner. That indicates what graphics file(s) that sprite needs in order to display correctly.

If you ever run into a conflict of two sprites requiring the same graphics slot (e.g. two sprites needing SP4 set to different values), there are ways to resolve that, but I'll leave that for another post if you need it.

This worked 100%. Thanks!

For some reason, whenever I play level 137, the No Yoshi sign appears. This messes up the level because it utilizes the Yoshi's Wings to get to level 1C8 (one of the Coin Heaven levels). I tried changing the Sprite GFX to the Banzai Bill with the purple poison mushroom #lm{gfxby} and reassigned the SP4 GFX with the red poison mushroom #lm{sgfxby} to 20, and that didn't work. Then, I tried doing it to Normal 1, then Rope 3, and none of those worked.
I just want to get rid of the No Yoshi sign from my level because it de-spawns Yoshi as soon as he enters 1C8 (because of the Yoshi's Wings). Any idea on how to fix this?

Easy fix; just open the Change Other Properties #lm{othprops} window and check the "disable no yoshi intro" box.

This worked. Thanks! #smw{:TUP:}

I'm trying to add the song 'Hard Water' (ported by worldpeace) into my ROM. I made sure to put every sample included in the song into the Samples folder.
Hard Water requires samples from the default folder within the samples folder. However, for some reason, AddmusicK can't find them, and it shows the exact file path where I put the samples in the error log! Please help, Hard Water is a very good port and I want to use it in my ROM hack!

Like Darolac said, you should try porting to a new ROM by exporting your levels, pallets, etc., as well as logging the patches/music/blocks/sprites you added. ExGFX can be directly copied.
I don't think there is a way to reduce ROM size however

You'll have to look into ASM coding (which I don't know how to do) to change how that boo works.

Most music from Mega Ma 9 and 10.
Although the We're The Robots, Splash Blue, and other ports sound good, I could use a port of Strange World!

You underestimate how long it takes to make a quality port, much less 4 songs at once, or "pretty much all the music". You also provided no reference MIDIs or anything else. The guidelines in the first post are there for a reason!

Silly me...
I probably skipped over the MIDI rule when I read the guidelines. I deleted my post so that I can revise it.

Also, when I made the list, I wasn't expecting anyone to port all the music listed, or even more than one.
