Hello, I'm Sheep49. I live in a medium-sized (250 000 inhabitants) city called Gdynia, in Poland. I'm 13.

I started to hack around 2 years ago, because I was... well, bored. Then I learned about all that custom music and ExGFX stuff, and I was stunned: I couldn't believe that it is possible to change a game so much. Since then, I'm improving my hacking skills.

I'm not new to SMWCentral. I have been here for around two months. I guess I was just too shy to introduce myself to the community. But it seems like I've finally worn the inside out, and decided to say 'Hi!' to everyone here.

P.S.: Sorry for my eventual mistakes in grammar. I have some problems with it. I hope it's easy to understand me, though. ^_^'
Hello there. Since you've visited that thread you're ready to be visually tortured by the footage of my first hack. [/sarcasm]

Well, the storyline basically goes like that...

Mushroom Kingdom, as every different country, has it's own legends. Some are about brave knights fighting dragons, while the others are about... brave knights fighting dragons. There's also a small group of legends that don't have brave kni... well, you get an idea. Anyways, one of those rare legends is about a sacred, legendary grail called Shroomy Grail. The lucky one who finds it would make his/her all wishes come true. Even though many have tried, no one could get past the guardian of the grail - a dangerous dragon called Bowser. However, one person isn't afraid of being eaten alive by the monster. His name is Mario. He's an ordinary plumber living in the western Mushroom Kingdom. Together, with his brother Luigi, they decided to look for the treasure. First off, they decided to go to their friend called Yoshi. He may know where to find the grail...

And here the hack starts ^_^

Now some pics of the title screen...*

And overworld's World 1...

No levels yet, since I'm gonna concentrate on overworld and storyline for a while.

Hope you liked it!
Piotr

*I've realised that 'A' on the 3rd photo went for holidays (:P). I'll try to fix that in the future.
Thanks for your comments! I really appreciate them. I don't know what wood are you talking about though. The one in the frame, or the other, big one with diagonal lines?

And Bloop!: I don't know what are you talking about to be honest ^_^'

So anyway, you wanted level pics - you got'em!

Just in case you would be wondering: the puzzle at the beginning of the level require you to find a blue P-Switch in order to pass brown blocks blocking the way, and then find a gray one to get rid of munchers along one of the horizontal parts of maze.

BTW, yeah, I prefer Piotr to Sheep49 :P

Hope you liked it!
Piotr
Gosh, I didn't realise the reference to my favourite Monty Python's film XD. I wanted to have some nods to the work of Pythons in my hack, one of which was the title. Bloop!, that was so random. Cookies for you ^.^

*Walks away to watch Holy Grail...
Yay for the 7 day bump!

Anyways, I've finished the Main Overworld. I'm pretty happy with the result, but I'd love to know what do you think about it ^^ (Constructive criticism is more that welcome!)

I'll post a pic depicting the whole OW later today or tomorrow.

See you later!
Piotr
Gotta agree with UltiMario: The pipes look weird and mouser looks plain awful. I'm sure you know what to do ;)

Giant Shy Guy looks pretty ugly with that white outline. How about changing it into black? ^_^

Apart from those flaws, it's not bad. I'll follow the development of this hack ^^
As I told ya, here's the pic showing the whole main part of overworld.

Also, in case you're wondering, the themes of each world are going like that...
World One - Hills/Plains
World Two - Water
World Three - Mountains
World Four - Cave/Volcano
World Five - Snow
World Six - Forest
World Seven - Desert

...That's it for today, I guess. See you tomorrow! ^^
Piotr

In case you're wondering, I partly remade an OW. Just compare the last pics with that one. There are some little differences forced by the fact, that levels wouldn't go where I wanted them to go :P

EDIT: I've just realised a cutoff hill and the rock. Ignore them for now, k? XD
I downloaded your hack, and... you know that you shouldn't add SMW rom to it, right? >.>
That's illegal, y'know.

Also, you can't remove an older hack. You must wait for the mods to do it.

I have to say that this hack is on my favourite hacks list. It's really great! ExGFX are cool, the storyline is original, and level design is awesome.

Can't wait for the next update :D

Oh, and BTW, what is the FG ExGFX you've used in the last (8th) pic?
I have seen similiar one in TSRPR, and since then I'm wondering where can I get it.

Keep up the great work! ^^
Piotr
Thanks Spacefan!

Today, after some struggling with YY-CHR, I've made one of the graphics for the cutscenes. ^^

It's my first GFX ever, but I like how it turned out in the end. As always, constructive criticism is more that welcome! ^^

See you later!
Piotr
No update yesterday, and, I'm afraid, none today :(.

But I've made an userbar for all the people that support my hack!

So yeah... The update including the new level will probably be tomorrow, and my aim is to release the first beta in mid-February.

See you next time.
Piotr
X-King: I have to say that I like your custom font very much. The shading effect is fitting and done nicely. Good luck with using it!

Anyways, below that text you can see my first custom BG ExGFX, as well as my second ExGFX ever. I think that the sky pallette is pretty odd... But I'd love to hear your opinion. ^^

Piotr
I have to say that your hack is pretty impressive and awesome. I really like the choice of ExGFX. Everything seems to be nicely done. Well, everything... except from the level design. It isn't bad or anything, it just... doesn't really stand out off the many other hacks here. Remember that your levels don't have to be linear. Use a variety of different options, like mazes, star-runs, balloon float... let your imagination go wild! It should help your hack to be more unique. ;)

Just thought I would add my opinion to the discussion... ^^
Piotr
Really nice update you have there, Golden Yoshi! I love the Bumpty Bump level. It seems to be very enjoyable to play. There's one little problem there, however. Having flying koopas in just underwear in the ice themed level looks... strange. I guess it isn't really important to the gameplay, though. ^^
Projectile Peril is also great. Really good choice of ExGFX and custom music there. I love it!

All in all, it was a very good update! Keep up the great work ;)
Hey everyone, welcome to the development thread for my new hack: Mario's Quest For The Shroomy Grail (Revisted). I know that you may ask one question: Why does this have a subtitle 'Revisted'? The answer is simple! You see, I had been working on a hack some time ago, and it was called Mario's Quest For The Shroomy Grail. However, I abandoned the project and deleted all of its files. Now I decided to make a new version of that hack, with new levels, new overworld, new GFX, new ExGFX, new ASM, new omnomnom, but leaving the storyline exactly the same.

The Storyline goes like that...
Originally posted by Sheep49 in the Readme of the original version

Mushroom Kingdom, as every different country, has it's own legends. Some are about brave knights fighting dragons, while the others are about... brave knights fighting dragons. But one particular legend sounded very real. It was about a sacred grail of mushrooms, called the Shroomy Grail. In fact, it sounded so realistic, that many people actually believed it was true. One of them was a brave plumber named Mario. He and his brother, Luigi, decided to look for the treasure. They've gone for the long and dangerous journey without any knowledge on what awaits for them... Let the adventure begin!

Sounds a bit more mystical than the usual 'Ohnoez, princess is kidnapped once again, you've gotta help her' kind of storyline, huh? Well, I hoped that it would! :P

Anyways, you want pics, right? Alright, here you are!

This is a part of the overworld. Mario is about to enter the first level. I'm not really satisfied with the look of the overworld, so I may actually redo it.

Yay! Spin jumping is AW3SUM!!!!1!

Oh darn... That football player is running after me! There's gonna be some trouble!

First a crazy footballer... Now a spinning Koopa shell... This is madness!

Hmm... It seems that my enemy has actually helped me this time! Thanks for the mushroom, strange-looking-spinning-rainbowy-shell-of-the-yellow-koopa-troopa!

Ah! I'm almost trapped! (Actually, no... There's no invicible coin block to trap you. If I would put one more, it would be pretty Kaizo-ish of me, wouldn't it?

Yes! A midway point!

Hehe... Good old attack from below... ;)

What's better than a 1-up after the succesful star-run?

Thanks to the power of the P-switch, now the coins have turned into blocks, letting me to go over the gap!

Ugh... Running on the edge of the cliff was pretty exhausting... And there's another one of those sportmen on steroid!?

I just love jumping while ducking! [/sarcasm]

Finally, the end of the level!... Wait... I also have to find the secret exit! That means going back to this area! ARGH!

I won't show you the secret exit... You'll have to find it itself! He,he,ho,ho,ha,he! [Stop laughing like you were evil! You're not!]

OK, to end this post, lemme just list all the things that I'm planning to include.

ExGFX [Both from the site, as well as some original]
Custom Blocks
Custom Sprites
ASM [I've recently started learning it, and the possibilities are endless I have to say!]
Custom Music [Some original tunes may be included... who knows?]

And now... for a taster of the cutscenes artwork!

I'm thinking of adding the trees to the Hills graphic above... Is it a good idea?

Any feedback is going to be very appreciated! Hope you liked the showcase!

Piotr
Wow, thanks for such a fast feedback, guys! It's really appreciated!

andy_k_250: Thank you! Glad that you like the title. I was thinking of changing it, but... It's too catchy! ;)

Luigi-San: Thanks for your suggestions! I'll be sure to include some Python references later on! :D

Since the changes that I had to make were minor, here you are:

Fixed the unrevealed paths' colour to something less blending with the ground.

The block has been moved by one space to the right. I didn't move it down since the whole concept of a multiple-coin-block kicked with a shell wouldn't work if I moved it that way.

Noteblock's pallette is now fixed...

...and so is triangle's one.

OK, enough for today! Hope you like it!

I agree with Supertails,'The Artifacts of Marvelous Birds' really deserves to be featured.

First of all, the story is really interesting - far more original and interesting than the SMW's original storyline at least. And that's a lot, especially since, as the author states, the story is not yet finished. Moving on to the level design. No enemy spam, no floating munchers... Just good ol' platforming experience. The levels get more difficult as you progress, so you don't need some amazing skills to get through the first world. Overworld is also executed nicely. I haven't seen any kind of physically impossible floating islands, cut-off land, and monotonous looking curves of cliffs. The overworld's quality is overall superb, especially at the 1st world. The lake in the middle of the island there looks great! The hack also has some spectacular ExGFX. The style is aesthetically consistent, and exit1337 has made some graphics himself (which is especially easy to notice when looking at the status bar and in the beach level), which is always a good feature as it halps the hack to have that special, original feel. 'Marvelous Birds' also feature some HDMA effects, which is in my opinion great, as they're used in good places and are not as detracting as you may imagine they to be. Overall, I playing this hack was a really enjoyable and fun experience. 'The Artifacts of Marvelous Birds' is a hack with marvelous storyline, some great graphics and good learning curve, which in my humble opinion deserves to be featured.
Love the hack, I totally <3 the idea of controlling and playing the whole game as a parabeetle!

The wing powerup is a great idea and addition, and as Error 52 pointed out, it opens many possibilities for unique, interesting puzzles.

As for the level, it's good and simple. The design is interesting for sure. Maybe the looks of it are a bit bland, but you're going to add some decorations... right? Anyways, keep it up!
Oh, and ninja'd.
This hack is made of pure win! #w{:>}

I love the brambles level, and the GFX are just awesome, I love it. They are so simple, and they remind me a bit of Paper Mario. They look just fun.

And regarding the change of cape to something else, I think I like Raccoon Tail the best out of possibilities. I think it would fit the overall look of the hack in a way I can't really describe. It would just... fit fine. Don't make me explain why. Oh, and keep up good work!
