Tip: Switch palace switches normally disappear if you replay the level. However, if you insert them as direct Map16 and use the hex-edit at $00EEB2 in the ROM map, you can replay the level without a problem. Not logged in.

New user. I joined smwcentral because i wish to create a troll romhack. I grew up with smw and seeing a lot of hacks on youtube i found the idea of creating one would be a lot of fun.

I appreciate that the smwcentral community may be apprehensive about troll levels but i'm sure that hosting them will help this community to grow (one new user here for proof of that).

There is no doubt that people will create hacks that others don't enjoy, but the rating system on here should help make it clear which ones are actually fun to play.

I have a hack in mind (which i hope to start creating as soon as i getthe hang of lunar magic) that i believe will make for an enjoyable game that offers a different challenge...

Infinite lives, death counter, auto-save on overworld, in-level option to restart level/return to map and spawn at start of level/previous checkpoint (should have multiple checkpoints in longer levels) instead of world map.

All of these should ensure that the players won't get frustrated other than from the actual trolling and that they can compare their progress with their friends/members etc. Soft-locks should be avoided at all costs (i think forcing thr player to kill themselves is fairer and more fun for everyonr). Returns to the start/previous checkpoint can be funny within reason but from the end of a long level isn't gonna make anyone wanna continue.

All of the other things i can think of generally come down to personal preference (custom sprites/kaizo blocks) but i'm sure the community will vote on each hack and provide positive feedback to the creator(s) so anticipate some teething problems but overall adding troll hacks will prpve to be a positive thing imo...

I look forward to getting feedback on my troll hack and anybody willing to help me would be greatly appreciated.

PM me if you would like me to test one of your hacks. Happy to test troll hacks but I won't be much help on Kaizo hacks. I am free whenever I am free but obviously life comes first.
First of all, thanks for making this tutorial.

I have an idea for a hack all planned out but i have a lot to learn about lunar magic so it will be a while before i make any significant progress. I'm sure that reading this will benefit me greatly when i begin making the actual levels.

The concrete blocks is something i didn't consider so that will potentially save me a lot of time in editing!

I'm going to try to enter a level in this and it will be my first rom hack so sorry in advance XP

Thanks for making the base rom for this contest.

Is it correct in me saying that base rom patches aren't anywhere else on the site?

Well the base rom is assembled from a variety of resources located on the site, as well as one or two that were made for this contest. But the only place to download the Base Rom is in the Rules post. Does that answer your question?

Yes, thabk you. I kind of jumped the gun thinking i could just patch and then level edit. I'm a complete novice so i won't be picking up the required skills to make a worthy level for the contest unfortunately.

On the plus side though, i am somewhat getting the hang of overlapping patches that i need to make my own hack. Once i get that down i'll move on to the next step which i assume is figuring out how to put new enemies into my new base rom (if thats the right term).

Anyway, thanks again and i wish you all tje best for the contest :)

FPZero, thanks again.

I have looked at the tutorial and made a failed attempt at inserting a sprite yesterday but i'm going to invest my time into creating a halloween hack (my hack idea fits with that theme so i will just enter a level from that).

I will figure it out eventually but i restart college soon so the october contest is a more realistic time for me to post a level that i am happy with.
