-About This Hack-

This hack contains levels with their own unique gimmick. No two levels are quite the same. Once World 1 is complete, you are free to travel to which ever world you wish.

This hack was 3 Years in the making. Its my very first hack and it is one of three in a Trilogy.

-UPDATES #1-
1 - Lots of changes have been made to this hack in terms of its difficulty. Some levels have been made a bit easier and playable for players, while still maintaining its hard difficulty.

2 - some Levels have been shortened, including some Auto-Scrollers, so that they won't be unnecessarily long.

3 - A few bugs and glitches have been fixed. If I missed any, please let me know.

-UPDATES #2-

The stage "Juiced Up Joy-Ride"'s starting point was placed incorrectly. I fixed this now.
Screenshots:
Okay, so, unfortunately I have to reject this hack for one major reason, and it’s a pretty big one - there are lots and lots of smaller things that I think are noteworthy but not reject-worthy that I’ll mention as well, but bear in mind that I only need you to fix the major thing and I will be happy to accept this hack next time.

The big thing - there are several opportunities to softlock in the World 3 castle, Fraud’s Factory. Ostensibly, you need to keep your power-ups through this level, but it’s easy enough to not have a way to get out of certain parts and not have a way to die. Please go through and add a death block or spike or something so that you don’t have to wait out the timer or reset here. Universal start+select out of a level would also solve this issue.

So, the smaller stuff: This hack is firmly in Standard: Very Hard. It is *very* difficult as the game gets on, especially the extra challenges and the final world. Moreover, you’ve provided no easy save points or an official life farm (I found one myself in a level, which I’m not sure if it was intended or not). I want to mention the last handful of levels in particular:

Juiced Up Joyride: I had to ask someone to look up where the secret exit was in Lunar Magic to find it. This desperately needs better signposting or a hint or *something*.

Hazard Headquarters, Final Frontier, and Deadly Destination: These were difficult because of sprite spam (e.g., *tons* of homing bullets) and mean sprite placement (e.g., Pansers on ledges at a higher elevation from Mario)

Let’s talk about the Castles in each world: You chose a vanilla checkpoint system for your hack, which is fine. However, there’s usually very long sections preceding boss rooms with no checkpoints before the bosses, necessitating long runbacks to bosses. This goes all the way from the World 2 castle and goes on to the end of the game.

The final castle, ???’s Castle, is the most egregious offender of any level with all these regards - spite spam, three sections before the checkpoint, one of which is 1F screens long, and a long runback up to the boss with wild custom sprites and unfortunate sprite placement. The final boss is pretty darn difficult and the slog back to them is rough. For full disclosure, I broke out save states for the last level to give myself a checkpoint for each new section because this would have been a very long grind otherwise.

Another small thing with regard to your custom sprites is that they do not act in expected ways. You can kill the climbing saws in Fraud’s Factory with shells, you can’t spin jump off of boomerangs from the Bros, walking yellow winged koopas are immune to fireballs, spin jumping off of the final boss in their shell hurts you even though you still get the spin off, etc. I *think* these examples are mostly unintended and these are a simple case of not ticking an extra bit when placing them in Lunar Magic. I would suggest going back through your custom sprites and double checking what extra bits you have active or inactive.

There’s some levels with a decent bit of slowdown, particularly the dark levels (e.g., Dead Darkness) or levels with a lot of sprites in them (e.g., Lavender Switch). There isn't a lot of this, but I thought I'd mention it for completeness sake.

You can ride the minecart into the ceiling in Ruby Ride (https://clips.twitch.tv/ExquisitePunchyPuddingNotLikeThis-pXO76xA7cNsrE4-A)

Finally, there’s no save after ???’s Castle, which leads to an inability to have 60 exits on the title screen without a manual save elsewhere. This also seems like an oversight (also, your hack name is spelled incorrectly in the credits!)

Okay, those were the major and minor issues, so have some positive ones: I think the levels that focus on platforming were really solid - most of the secret moon levels were actually quite tough and fun, the Gatling Gauntlet was actually really fun after I stopped laughing from the immediate over-the-top-ness of the sprite itself, etc. The aesthetics were smooth as butter; I really enjoyed how the levels looked and what you did with the overworld. Honestly, I overall quite enjoyed this hack except for the stressful castle levels and the second half of the final world.

So here’s my proposal: work out a solution to fix the softlocks in Fraud’s Factory, resubmit as Very Hard, potentially address the unexpected sprite behavior (optional for acceptance but I highly encourage this), and this will be an easy accept upon resubmission. Thanks for the generally good time!

Description: Lush made a standard hack!?

Yes! Here it is, Mario story : Return to sweet n' sour land, "Mario story" for short.
Another chapter in the Sweet N' Sour spin off series.
Let's set the scene, some levels have been torn apart and mashed up creating a new environment depicting the motion of time passing. (see pictures)
Some are close to their originals, but converted to a standard setting.
Kaizo players will definitely have a decent time here.

I've always wanted to make a standard hack and I plan to do more.

Alright let's get to the details.

-fast pace action for almost every level!
-21 exits for 100%
-All switch palaces MUST be completed to win, the entrances can't be missed, in plain sight!
-Fast retry, no need to farm lives here, jump right in and grab the bull by the horns.
-Small number of enemies, the hack leans on "less enemies more obstacles" approach, don't fret, there is variety and a decent number of said enemies.
-Start + Select to leave any levels at any time.

THIS VERSION IS V1.0 I will post an update if I've missed some crucial elements to the hack, always check to see if you have the most recent version.

The difficulty is set somewhere in the middle of NORMAL and HARD, it all depends on your skillset.

If any problems occur, please write them in the comments beneath! thankyou.

- Lushious

First off, this does not fit into the Standard category. This is kaizo style, albeit very easy kaizo design. This would not necessarily necessitate rejection; however, this submission has loads of cutoff, a few levels can be rope glitched and skipped, the sound effects for message boxes and goal tapes/key holes are messed up, and a background in one level flashes strangely.

The author agreed that rejection would be appropriate and is going to resubmit this as kaizo: light with various issues fixed.

Well... I don't know, and everthing was made in Lunar Magic!
During the making of this, i learned some smw hacking stuff.

- Making a level
- Pipe Warps
- Making a overworld
- Changing Palettes
- Making a custom title screen.

I hope you enjoy my first smw rom hack!

Hi! The levels in this hack are perfectly acceptable. My big issue with the hack as it stands is that it is a bit too short - it took me less than five minutes to beat these. I'd be happy to accept this if you submit it again with a few more levels.

There's also a bit of graphical cut off on the overworld. I recommend asking in the forums or the discord server on how to fix this. Thanks!

Hiya, I like the few levels I played so far, but there's a problem with the pause menu interfering with the BG graphics - repeated pausing *really* messes up the graphics (see attached image), so I'd recommend looking into this and resubmitting. Someone in my chat mentioned it may be an HDMA bug, but I'm just passing that along, I'm not an expert on these matters.

The first level of this game straight up has Goomba Garden from the original Second Reality Project 2 in it - moreover, not only did you put in someone else's work in your hack, the checkpoint doesn't work and the pipe that normally leads to a bonus area in the original just brings you back to the beginning of the section.

I imagine this is supposed to be an homage to different things that you enjoy, but you just lifted the level wholesale. Please submit original content to this site (and make sure your checkpoints aren't broken).

It´s a "long" old Level with anoying bugs on one sprite, if you can enjoy playing using save states, I think you could still enjoy this hack.

Have fun!

Hint: Use save states to find the last key for the last door. (I think it´s unfair)

Tags: asm, exgfx, hdma, huge level, music, traditional
Screenshots:
This was very much designed with save states in mind, because it's one long section with no checkpoints and (as far as I could tell) one mushroom that was somewhat difficult to procure.

The bouncy sprites used throughout are, for lack of a better work, jank - they sometimes damage you if you jump on them instead of turning into a spring, which is not good. The projectiles from the fire/ice bros have unfair hitboxes as well. (see attached clip from my streamed moderation of this).

The last key - as you admitted as such in your hack description - was very unfairly placed. I had to use lunar magic to figure it out.

Between all of this, I do not think that this hack meets the quality necessary to be on this site. An acceptable version of this hack would fix the spring enemies to not randomly kill you, add a checkpoint probably somewhere around the chain chomp section, and make it *much* more clear where the last key is.

in all honesty this is such a pointless savefile because its only 1 level and if you get the secret exit, the level gets blocked off. so if all you wanna do is read the 2 textboxes which are the final message, then this savefile is for you.

its more uploaded as a joke.

Description: It's been like 10 years since I started on this hack. I was quite the young'in when I made Super Bobido World 1 and then started on this hack immediately after. I guess I was eager to continue the very "valuable" Bobido brand or something. This hack was left unfinished for quite some time (most of that 10 years), but I figured hey maybe I should finish this at some point. Hopefully my spelling has improved somewhat... And hopefully the graphics aren't as lazy this time around.

Most of the early levels were made when I was younger but the older ones were made more recently. I'd like to think I have some creative puzzle levels in there. Also some cool mechanics I played around with for the more athletic levels (especially more towards the later levels). There are some neat things you can do with this "engine" as opposed to Mario Maker or something. I polished the earlier levels so you don't need save states or anything. (Which hey, is a requirement if you're not a kaizo hack).

Finishing up this hack is kind of my love letter to old school rom hacking and the joy it brought me as a kid. I uh don't think many folks are fighting tooth and nail to see the sequel of Super Bobido World 1. But for all 8 of you who played it I guess this one is for you too.

There is definitely some goofiness to this hack. There are also some genuinely difficult puzzles in here (though most levels are "athletic" levels). Some levels are definitely more on the harder scale. It's also quite a long hack! There are 6 "worlds" with about 3 to 5 levels each. Hopefully you find it entertaining! If anything at least I had fun making it/finishing it.

Rejection for a couple of reasons: this hack has a track in it has that crashes the game after it finishes (it's in a couple places, the first being the bonus room in "Road Out of Here"). The second reason is a potentially easy softlock in "Fixing The Teleport": you can hit the silver switch and collect the coins from the munchers and have no way to die or start and select out or time out. I would recommend having a start/select out of a level anytime patch included with your hack if you are going to have no timer for your levels.

Hi, four short levels is not sufficient enough of a demo for me to accept this hack. Please flesh out your hack a bit more.

Another issue I found was that I played the four exits and I had zero exits on the title screen when I was done. Please fix this.

Finally, please make it more clear where the end of the demo is - I finished the exits in the final level and the second ghost house exit and wasn't given any indication that those didn't lead anywhere.

Please fix these issues before resubmitting. Thank you!

Hello, the overworld is a bit broken in your hack - you can just go to the Star World with the SMB1-3 tribute levels directly from the switches level without unlocking it from said level. Fix this and it will be an easy accept.

I have some thoughts on this hack's penchant for pick a path/pick a door type obstacles, but those aren't rejectable, they just make a generally kind of unfun experience for the player.
